Many people here are turning away from Christianity to follow traditional African beliefs being told that Christianity is a white, colonial indoctrination. I have such respect for you after watching this video brother. My ancestors migrated from Norway and I'm also a Christian. I've been torn between my faith and a desire to honor my ancestors at times because my heart tells me to avoid idolatry. I still have great respect for them for how their faith motivated them and especially for how fearless it led them to be. These are lessons from our ancestors that I believe can and should be applied directly to our own faith.

Hi Tom. I could of made you a drinking bowl. A quaich a very old type of drinking bowl. That the Scottish people use. To drink whiskey from.

That pouch for the silver bowl really reminds me of snuffbox pouches that i've seen in use here in Sweden. Really appreciate your channel, love the handmade stuff in combination with nature! Reenactors and living history really does alot to give deeper understanding and knowledge about the land around us, and how we used to fit in to it. Heja Cimbrer!

iIagree my grandma , was in WW2. A red cross nurse and then went on to pearl harbor after the attacks on it to help out the boys ,the shell shocked and wounded. She saw first hand that chant and would agree on your thoughts about the ,Hil O'd thing. Good chat respect you even for for that!

This video is an eye-opener

Hey Tom, it was great seeing you and Cornelius again. I can see why you feel the way you do about that saying . That was a terrible time in our worlds history. That is a cool little flask you made, I really like that and that silver bowl. I went to a thrift store (they sell stuff people donate instead of throwing away ) and I found a really nice alcohol stove and cook set that was made in Germany. The stove is really well built out of brass and had never been opened. I got it for a very good price. I really like it. Well my brother I will see you on the next adventure. I think just like you when I say "Heil" (Hil) in German it sounds wrong. I also prefer SKØL. I've only been following your channel for a short time, but I'm totally hooked. I absolutely love your self made gear! Your choice of faith shocked me at first, but for me it doesn't matter. I am a Norse Heathen and I was born and raised as a christian, as you. My parents were raised during the Great Depression and WW2 also. I learned to make what I needed too. I have been waiting for you to say exactly that all of the years I have been watching your channel. I have suspected all along but I am relieved to hear you make clear what you needed to make clear. While I agree with you from a faith perspective I deeply respect anyone who lives with integrity to their deeply-held beliefs and your entire channel is about integrity to deeply-held beliefs. And coffee with whiskey and a wink.

Sir. I appreciate you regardless of your belief system, and as far as I’ve read in the extant texts our ancestors were traders not religious zealots and judgmental folks. My grandparents were Danes and I’m from Tennessee. My grandparents were Christian and I’m Heathen (boy they would get a kick out of the double entendres there). I just want you to know that I very much value you and what you do. The experimental archeology and willingness to make “how to videos” the desire to get people active and involved directly with their ancestors by making thing. Just encouraging people to enjoy nature is an awesome thing. I know that the cringe pagans probably jumped ship after this video, but I want to say thank you sir. From the grandson of Danes, from the grandson and great nephew of men that fought against that scourge that invaded you country (which was the first thing I thought of when my wife told me about this video), from a former small boat sailor and boarding party member in the USN, and from someone fascinated by our heritage. I’ll stick by my oar sir. One of the best and by far the most welcoming/relaxing channel on RU-vid!! Edit….apparently, according to my wife, I am (in addition to the other stuff) really bad at grammar and syntax :)

I used to work on a reservation in Montana as a Tribal Police Officer. I am not native but...I worked with them and learned a lot of their beliefs. I have adopted some of them. Saw some interesting and unexplainable things on the reservation. Nothing wrong with honoring the old ways.

Tom you just went up another 10 notches in my book. I also grew up Christian and are currently raising 4 kids to hopefully be Christian ultimately it is there decision. Thanks again for sharing some more of your culture and letting us see more about who you are even if it is just small bits.

Thank you for beeing honest with us about you beeing a Christian, I think it's great that you still honor your cultural history. I consider myself a heathen/pagan and since I am a Czech, I honor the Slavic Gods (mostly Veles) but North Gods as well because I feel even stronger connection with them. And of course I honor the Mother Earth and nature as well. I come from Christian background, my parents are Christians, some of my friends too and I realized that when we all come to each other with respect, we never run into problems with our beliefs. So I respect your beliefs and thank you for sharing them with us and thank you for making Viking/pagan related videos, because I like them alot. 🙂I hope you are doing great and look forward for another video my friend. 🙂 Take care brother, Cyril.

This is your channel, your art, your hobby. You are the captain of your ship. Who cares if you are not a Pagan?! You are free to believe what you want. You have also always made it clear that you are more interested in the spirit of being a viking, rather than making everything authentic. If anyone is upset about what you said in this video, you don't need them. I don't support cancel culture.

Thanks for explaining that, and I never made that connection to 'Heil' - very touchy for some I am sure, but I as a Catholic understand your concerns - a bit too much bad history there. I wear a bronze Vegvisir pretty much every day, and just recently got my first Geri/Freki bronze armband from Grimfrost, and enjoy the jewelry very much. I can also honor the (lowercase) gods of our forebears - while recognizing that I only honor the one true God.

I had commented on your post that said some people left your channel because of your last video, and I mistakenly thought it was the video of the blot you were talking about. Now, I understand people left because you’re not a Heathen, and that saddens me. As a Heathen myself, I do. I do not like being judged by Christians, so would never judge others for not being Heathen. I’m a pluralist at heart and believe there are many paths to the creator. Here in America we do have a Nazi problem (Asatru Folk Assembly) where the folkish movement tries to pretend they honor the old gods, but they do not represent most of us. But, knowing that there are those who equate the Norse gods with Nazi ideology, so your concerns about feeling like saying Hil Odin is reminiscent of the Nazi salute to Hitler is valid, especially having grown up with that history so close. Personally, I think that there are many ways to honor the gods and the old ways and you do it beautifully. Your practicing ancient crafts, the camping, and the little ceremonies you’ve die for the solstice, etc. very much honor the old ways and have been inspiring for me. Religion constantly shifts over time, and our ancestors adopted ideas from Christianity even before the society was converted. The fact that we see Thor’s hammer amulets appear in the archeological record after being exposed to the Christian cross shows this influence of ideas. I’m sorry for the ignorance of others, but you have a faithful fan in me. I really appreciate your channel, and getting to see the land of my ancestors. I can trace my family history to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden during the Viking age and just feel such a sense of home seeing the beautiful country as you film. Thank you for all you do. Skål Tom!

Glad to see you again with Cornelius, we had pretty bad weather here and I had my place flooded with a foot of water and still fighting the flies and the spiders that thrive in this season. A skunk has eaten my corn cobs and squirrels ravage my sunflowers. I'm seriously thinking of leaving the prairie by the riverside and move back to my mountains. I find it too hot and humid here in the summer and too cold in the winter. Glad to see you have fine weather in Denmark. As for my faith, I honor Christ's teachings yet am also wearing the medicine wheel on my coat with feathers and all and also currently talk with animals as I find them more intelligent than most people. I believe nature has an intelligence of its own and we humans too often think of ourselves as being more intelligent. Many of the floods we have are caused by the fact humans destroyed lots of dams built by the beavers to regulate the water levels. Nice to see you again dear Tom. Mike. 🪔

Spirituality and Faith are good topics. It is well for us to recognize how our ancestors realized those feelings. You set up three images on a tree stump in the forest and lit a candle. When you came back to those figures later in the video, I felt a sense of Holiness had been drawn to them. This sense did not come from them. It came from the intent to honor creation.
