Honua by Noelani Love feat. Emilia Garth
I am so grateful to finally be sharing this song with you. It has been a LONG wait. I wrote the bones of this song almost 4 years ago (in Feb 2018) while I was participating in a women's retreat on Big Island.
Hawaii island is known as the root chakra of the 7 main islands, and it is very grounding, holding us like the great mother herself. As I was walking along the shoreline, I was incredibly inspired by the expansive view of the ocean and the landscape all around me. Witnessing the raw land and new lava all around me, I felt so connected to the 'āina, the kai, and I was able to tap into the frequency of the Earth.
I began to sing and let Spirit move through me. "I hear you ocean spirit, I hear you calling me..." The draft of the song came through and I recorded it on my iphone. About a year later, I asked my sister Emilia Garth to record this song with me, and per her suggestion, we rewrote and rearranged some of the lyrics so the song was more cohesive.
We finally recorded the song in May of 2021 and here it is for you, being released with the first New Moon in the New Year of 2022.
Honua means Earth in Hawaiian, and this song is for the Earth. For the natives of Hawaii. For the sovereignty of all native lands.
You’ll hear the Hawaiian chant “Ua mau ke ea o ka 'āina i ka pono” meaning” the sovereignty of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.
