If you listen carefully the vocalist is very flat especially on the high notes, and he also cuts his phrases unnecessarily short a number times, causing the whole song to sound 'strange' in a way. This is not hating, but just saying the truth - this was not his best performance, although from his other live performances we all know that he is far from a terrible singer.

Yes, the lack of studio magic is certainly evident in this version. That being said, I do like the quality of his voice when he’s singing lower. He just strains during the higher notes. I think what it comes down to is he wrote this song in a key that was too high for his voice.
I think wht it comes down to is the song and band are bad. It's an ear worm track and this is the definition of a one hit wonder that doesn't even sound that great in retrospect.

This guy can sing trust me, I've seen him performing The Reason back then. He is half asian thats the main problem probably that he wasnt able to keep his voice in a good shape for longer. And this song is also a very demanding one, especially for him. And unfortunately - for him and for the band that demending song is their biggest hit..
@@rock1837 I know he can, he’s just hit or miss I’ve noticed with his live performances. This particular performance was clearly one he struggled with a bit. And yes it’s a very hard melody to pull off. Not sure what him being half Asian has to do with it though….
@@jamesburger7609 genes.... they can always cause trouble. Hoobastank came out with their 2nd album, and their tour was full of concerts. Doug Robb is not a typical rock singer, he usually avoids/skips the high notes. His voice wasnt meant to be pushed to the limit, he was exhausted in 2004. I think he could be great in pop music. And you know - Crawing In The Dark, Running Away, Same Direction, Out of Control, First of me, Dissapear, Pieces, Inside of You etc. all their songs are difficult to sing honestly.
No excuse as an artist. Chester Bennington sounds just as good as he did 10 years+ ago. This band simply isn't good at singing which is why they're a one hit wonder

If you don't think this is Bad you must have been listening to some real shitty singers lately to think this sounds good. I like the studio version don't get me wrong and dan the guitar player is like why am I playing for this shitty band.
