I'm guessing each string is attached to the hook with a loose slip knot. The final string is removed slowly, to keep the slip knot in place around the hook.
@@TylerLunsfordMagic Thank you for replying. I do not have the effect so that is why I ask. Some say yes and some say no. Very confusing. Thanks again.
Most overpriced effect in the history of magic. And no, the 'idea' itself isn't worth the 100 bucks either. Mind you I'm not saying its not a good effect....its a great effect for sure. But I'm not gonna help the creator retire early on this one effect by paying 100 bucks...lol. There are better, cheaper razor blade or pin effects that bury this effect for less money...THAT is why 100 is too much. Sorry.
I would say there is exactly as much risk of injury with this as with shattered. I use this as my walk around closer, I use shattered as a stage closer.
I don’t own either of those but I do know what they are. I can tell you Hook is pretty safe. They have dulled a few edges of the hook but there are still some sharp points on it. But as long as you give your spectators clear instructions, staying safe should be easy 👍🏼 Hope this helps 😀
I used his on stage, it’s a good piece. I will use it every stand up show. Worth it. Reset isn’t too practical for strolling, maybe one off at the end of your gig.
So I bought this trick but the link for the tutorial video on the card is dead.. wtf? why are shops still selling this. Does anyone have the video? I can prove I own it
Thank you, Andrew! I really appreciate the kind words. I’m glad people can tell I work hard to put out the videos I do. I’m happy with the success of the channel so far and can’t wait to see how much it grows this year ❤️🙌🏼
I don’t usually add performances for things that need an audience to show as that would drastically increase the time it takes for me to get these reviews out to you guys. As for the difficulty, check 2:41 🙂
The thing that annoys me the most is the cost. The materials cost at max $20. Definitely less than $10 just for the hook and string, most of the cost might be the tin, if that. Secret, maybe another $20, $30 if you want it that limited. $80-$90 for the secret and to own it seems a little much. Other effects like Smash 'n Stab costs roughly $10, but the Pain Game and Nailed It comes in at $300, so it's cheaper to get this.
The really bad thing is that you cannot give it out before and after the effect. And in the demo video you can see something that makes you wonder how it’s done. But that is a fake and not the truth. That’s a lie. I bought it, and am angry now. I don’t like effects where you cannot hand everything out for examination. Don’t buy this trick..... only 2 points of 10. And so it is far too expensive. Sad to say that.....
I suspect a big part of this was getting a good price for the first wave, because the gimmick has a horrible shelf life. Once people know how it is done, they are already telling their friends who are making $3 versions of it. $100 is low enough to sell, high enough to encourage people to keep the secret for at least a little while.
You're absolutely right. $100 should include shipping. Looks like an ok effect. I don't really like effects where the magician has stuff in his mouth. Pretty disgusting iyam. Great review again, Short, to the point and relevant.
Thanks for the support, Rob! Yeah, it could be seen as gross or unprofessional depending on where you perform this, I guess you just have to choose where this would work best. Thanks again for watching! 👍🏼
I just started looking at your reviews and what I like is that you don't seem to have a bias which is refreshing. A lot of other channels definitely review for vendors and not to mention review their friends or people that they admire, which of course will pressure them to be a little kind. Effects will sometime be expensive because the creator will price it out of the reach of the common magician or because they feel their name allows it to be expensive. Having said that of course the effect will be expensive because of the research and development which can including the materials its made of. Lastly the buzz of an effect will drive the price up as well. Personally I purchase based on if the effect will fit into my show and or what kind of reaction do I feel it will have so price is irrelevant. However, although I like the Hook very much, I will agree with your comment about the price (and I did purchase it) because I know what material came in the package. When I compare it to other tricks like the TUC coins, which is an award winning gimmick that can range from $50 to $600 based on the material that its made of, I think it's overpriced. Also the coins allow for many routines while Hook offered just the one routine. Keep up the great work, I will continue to view your honest videos.
Ok I have overpaid for effects in the past but this isn’t one of them. You weren’t doing this, you didn’t think of this, this is a killer idea that dropped in your lap...you are paying for the idea which is strong. People way overestimate what some gimmicks are worth...I know I have tons of gimmicks and I do my homework. What you pay for with a strong magic effect is the idea not the puzzle. Ok now, that said here is my critique. Having performed this live I have discovered a weak point in the presentation which is easily fixed and makes a difference. As soon as I have time I’ll post it on my channel. I haven’t recorded anything with specs yet but when you see it you will see what I mean about improving the initial sell of the effect. This is one I hope magicians sell well and don’t water down, I actually wish it had been even a bit more pricey.
I understand you’re paying for the idea, I too buy a ton of gimmicked magic, but I still stand by my point of an effect that’s $100 should have free shipping as a courtesy to the magicians buying it. Thanks for being an active viewer! 😀
Tyler Lunsford Magic Could be they specifically wanted to make it the 99 dollars so not a cheapy but not high end but to do so they couldn’t cover shipping. Let’s say they charged you 112.00 but shipping included would that be fair? I tend to think they went with the 99 Because it is easier to digest than over a hundred. I honestly guessed how this worked and could have reproduced it for a lot less. I chose to pay for it because the idea is just that unique and strong in my books. In fact I am seriously working on another upgrade to switch out the hook at the end. Something like bring the strings together then when supposedly pulling back out the one attached to the hook to jokingly ask if anyone wants to try it you pull out a string with second matching hook attached. You could do this right in your hands no real cover. If completely causal you eliminate any back track thinking afterward.
I believe you are a little critical on the price imo. I think your paying for the reaction for the most part, I understand the gimmick is pricey but if your getting serious, and I mean serious reactions like the trailer and some of the other performances I’ve seen on RU-vid… then I believe it is completely justified. Just my opinion. Solid review. 🪃
