Hook: Imaginary Dinner and Food Fight Scene (Robin Williams) 

This movie hits way harder as an adult because you finally get the message it was conveying. So many of us lose that spark, that creativity and imagination when we grow up. We become boring, day to day, barely scraping by adults and forget to have fun every once in a while. To not take life so damn seriously all the time.

When I was a kid I wanted nothing more than to eat that food.

I can’t explain it but when Peter flings the food and that kid says “you’re doing it!” It takes me right back to watching this movie as a kid. Such a nostalgia hit.

I love how they show the meat being eaten already, because he’s not imagining his own favorite meal, he’s imagining the same thing they were. Magical attention to detail

The way the kids know they are looking at the legendary Peter pan. Extremely touching and well acted. Literal 10/10 faces swimming in wonder.

When Robin died, one of the child actors from this posted a video, telling his good memories about him while doing the film. He also said his favorite scene was deleted, but it was about the boys going to bed, and Robin read them a bedtime story.

I miss Robin Williams. 😢 To many good people die and FAR to many bad people get to live.

Prince Zuko really has a way with insults

First Western movie I ever watched in a movie theater, shortly after the wall had come down. One of the most treasured memories of my life so far.

"Substitute chemistry teacher". Good grief that was funny. I'm having a hard time typing this from laughing so hard.

Amazing how 7 minutes are incredibly more entertaining and lovely than all of the Disney Remakes combined

I remember enjoying this movie as a kid, but after watching it as an adult I fell in love with it. It's so creative with such a great twist on the Peter Pan story, not to mention the fantastic practical effects and scenery. Its sad to know that we will never have a movie like this ever again.

Still worlds better than Disney's latest peter pan movie.

Not sure how intentional it was but seeing the smoke first appear out of the empty pots makes me think how Peter is first imagining the food underneath and that smoke and heat will come out of it. After he's finally seeing the food is smoking throughout the rest of the scene.

With Disney trying to diversify the Lost Boys, we need to revisit this movie and remember “Hook did diverse Lost Boys right!”

This scene is the equivalent of The Wizard of Oz when it goes from black and white to color

This film isn't the most perfect film in the world, but it has a number of scenes I enjoy, and this is one of them.

I miss this as a kid. Remember we all used to play "lava on the floor" lol. Fun times with the collective. I am 38 now.

I don't even know what half the stuff they're eating is I just know it looks delicious. Side note is how well Peters reaction after cutting that coconut was acted by Robin. Imagine just for a second that in the course of a few seconds you're confronted with the knowledge that you're actually a famous fictional literary character. And a legendary hero at that when your whole life has been spent in the pursuit of the mundane as something like a lawyer. Sheer shock and terror. You thought you knew who you were. Who AM I?

From a time where movies were just fucking amazing and dreamy. How far have we fallen my brothers and sisters :( I miss Robin Williams man.

Goddamn it, I don't want to cry every time I see a Robin Williams movie. He didn't give me tears like this, he gave me laughter. So much throughout my life it would be impossible to measure. I miss you more than I could ever voice, Mr Williams. You made my childhood magical.

Robin was my favorite as a kid from Hook to Aladdin to Mrs Doubtfire. He brought so much magic and joy, and to this day he's the only celebrity death that upset me.

So many moments in this movie give me goosebumps (like when we see the spark of the hook), but this one gets me every time. When Peter slices the coconut in half and they all stare at him in silence, and then you hear that rooster quietly crow…ooh, that is some good movie making right there. It’s such a small, subtle moment, but it sends shivers down my spine every time.

I think what's amazing about this scene is how all the kids are able to justify the imaginary foods, you can tell what they're eating even though there is nothing there. They didn't just shove things in their mouth's like a cartoon, there was 'substance' with what they were pretending to eat. Anyone can look like they're eating, but being able to convey specific food items really sells the scene. Also, it does make you wonder what they had been eating the whole time if Peter wasn't there to imagine it all. Maybe you don't need to eat in Neverland?

Makes me cry. I miss my childhood and I miss Robin. Breaks my heart.

The most important thing from this scene, watching it over and over again as a kid, and now as an adult, is that imagination lets you do anything. It lets you eat food that's not there, have a good time with your friends in a pretend food fight, and ultimately helps you concentrate at pivotal moments like when he cuts the coconut in half. It's amazing what happens when you let your imagination run itself over and you can basically let your instincts take over. I've had it happen a couple of times in my life. One time, I was bouncing a blue racket ball around the living room and I was talking to my roommate, who was standing up, under the ceiling fan. I know he has an inkling to spike it out of thin air. We were talking, and I saw the perfect spot on the wall, about 12 feet away, about 7 feet high. I thought he would spike it out, so I aimed, threw it at the perfect angle and velocity. It was in an instant. We were talking, I looked at the wall and took the perfect shot. It bounced off with speed, and I caught it midair. We were both stunned, because everything was perfect, from the ending of the conversation, to my throwing of the ball, both of us watching, and the bouncing back, to me catching it. I was laid back on the couch, and hit the wall 12 feet away, to bounce back perfectly, in an instant, because I imagined it. That's the power of imagination.

This whole scene is one of my favorite parts of the movie. Getting together for a family dinner and then having a fun food fight. It's wholesome, funny, full of laughs and smiles that make you wanna join in as well. Really signifies the importance of having fun together no matter the age for it brings us together.

This was my whole childhood, I watched the VHS so much that it got damaged and I had to get a new one. This movie will remain one of the greatest ever made.

The message in this movie goes so much deeper than I think we realize. They planted the seed with us as children, so that we would remember as adults. I believe everything we see happens for a very specific reason. Seeing is believing.

One of my favourite childhood movies. Its funny though; I was never able to understand the insults Rufio and Pan were throwing each other my entire life until just now. Jesus, Panning is spitting black magic at the kid.

It's interesting that not all of the foods the children mimed eating showed up on the table after Peter's ability to perceive it kicked in. Things like corn on the cob and sandwich fixings were missing. It shows that the kids are all actually imagining different foods, which is a fun detail.

I love this music as they sit down for dinner. You can't beat John Williams. I'm a big fan of Williams's music in films 🎥 🎞 🎦 🎬 📽 👌.
