That was my favorite part, and finally a clear shot of the infamous apex seals for all the dummies!

The crazy part to me is how few bolts it needs. Dozen long ones at the start and that's it. vs. a v8 with 16 on the rod bearings, 10+ on the crank bearings, 10+ on lifters, 20+ holding the heads on, just to cover the same tasks.

I have literally never seen the internals of a rotary until now.

A little bit of added info for fun that they didn't mention in the vid. AT 14:30 the little orange ring that is falling out is a rubber seal that is essentially the "head gasket" of these engines. The orange one sees the compression and combustion, then there is a black one that sees the coolant. These are actually a more common fail point than the apex saels. Often when you see a rotary overheat and "explode" or blow coolant out of the radiator it's these little rubber seals that let go and compression and combustion go into the water jackets. Especially on non turbo versions. Also fun fact.. Those are the one piece apex seals. They have 2 piece apex seals too, and even 3 piece. The 2 piece have a bevel where they meet and are RAZOR fucking sharp. I took my finger through a glove to the bone in the length of the seal which is like 3 inches long. Xrays showd it cut 1/4 of the way through the bone. That was a fun night. All in all they are neat little motors that arent for everyone.

the 1st one was n/a,, the 2nd one was turbo. smashing the throttle and driving at the limiter on ~160hp car quickly made hert a good drifter tho

kidill zymenko They were both turbo. He swapped the turbo II engine in a non turbo chassis. You can hear his diverter valve every time he lifts if you listen closely.
