We're moving back to Indiana. This looks like a fun time to take the kids to the turtle festival. This looks like a cool small town to visit. We like our in state road trips.

My father told me around 2001 that he saw a giant turtle as wide as the road while it was crossing a small road in rural Indiana about 45 minutes south of Churubusco. Whatever he saw was real and he rushed home to take us to see it but by the time we got back it was nowhere to be found. The nearest body of water was Pipe Creek

I seen a snapping turtle larger than a car tire and 2-3 foot tall at its peak when walking, it’s back was steep and tall like a church roof and it’s head and neck was as thick as my calf. It could have snapped just about anything that could fit in its mouth including your wrist.

Soooo. I actually believe I have seen one. I live in Michigan and when I was a young teen I spent a lot f time in the outdoors. The Flint river was within I'd say 1000 yards from where I grew up. One day while exploring I looked under a pile of downed trees over a bank in the river. In the darkness I could make out the silhouette of a gigantic turtle. Easily 500lbs. Even though I was very familiar with turtles, of course I thought there was no way that was what I was seeing because it was massive. I'd say the head had roughly the same mass as two basketballs, nevermind the shell. So I chalked it up to logs half submerged that just made that same shape as a turtle. But, a few months later I watched an episode of Wild America on PBS and Marty Stouffer actually caught a very large turtle in what I thought was the same region in a similar looking river. This got me wondering if what I saw was really a turtle. Thank goodness I figured it wasn't real because I would have poked at it, and would have tried to catch it. As I came home more than once with 50 lbs+ snapping turtles. My dad would take the hedge clippers to it's head and we had turtle soup. Disclaimer: these turtles were from spring fed creeks not the very polluted Flint river at the time.

When I was driving through middletown I saw a turtle right on the side of the road and I stopped to move him further away from the road so he wouldn’t get hit. When I picked it up he wasn’t happy. And I was like “I’m trying to help you dude”. Anyway I sat him down in the yard. He was a regular sized turtle though. I’m a Hoosier and I live in Delaware county and I will die (presumably)here in Delaware county. Well I guess I’ll die in Madison county because I prefer Community hospital as opposed to Ball Memorial. That’s assuming I die as an old man in a hospital setting and not in a horrible accident or something. Anyway I’m for sure gonna go up to churubusco and check out turtle days. And the on my way back ill stop in Fort Wayne and get a coney dog at that famous coney dog place. American Coney Island or something? I can’t remember the name right now but I saw the place on WIPB a few years again and have wanted to try it ever since but I don’t get up to Fort Wayne that often so this can be my excuse. Fort Wayne ain’t a bad place. It actually used to be a big BMX town. People from all over would come to Fort Wayne to ride the BMX trails. Pretty crazy.

I'm originally from Churubusco, Indiana & I have researched Oscar, I believe the turtle was a "Stupendemys Geographicus" and probably the last of his kind in the world, after being Dynamited, in 1949.

I was at a Bob Evans in fort Wayne about a month ago and heard to old dudes talking about it. The one guy was saying how people could go and see it all the time.

They grow all their lives. Could be real. I was bitten by a river snapper as a kid. Always held a fear of them. A giant one would be a real monster.

I hunt monsters, not knowing if they truly exist, I do it only knowing their strength and preparing for that, not because I think they are real, but because they are epic, and why should I not try to, if they are real, I’d like to catch one, if they aren’t, the hunt was fun.
