I'm sorry this one was a fail but hopefully you will get the help you need. Thank you for your advice to me the other day which I will keep in mind. Good to see you staying cool Roger. A nice vacuum and great video.
ibaisaic I'm glad I got mine and I am pleased you managed to get one as well.i bet you are glad I told you about it. So far so good with mine. Look forward to see you try yours out. Like you said.a good price to pay. Well done Roger.
IDK If it helps or not but I just got an Electrolux Epic 3500SR. Seller claimed it was dead and didn't turn on. Turns out the hot wire to the on/off switch inside the handle had come unplugged. Plugged it back in, good as new. A vacuum will never just "not turn on" with dead silence. It will hum, or screech, or smoke, or blow your circuit breaker. If it turns on and you hear nothing but silence, it's going to be a wire connection issue. D.I.Y. Dan might have nicked the wires in the cord and didn't know it before taping it up and torn the strands and it's only making a connection when the wire is bent a certain way. People in the USA usually don't maintain their vacuums and treat them with no maintenance until they die.
There is almost definitely a loose wire or bad switch somewhere. These are beasts, I don’t want to know what this poor machine has gone through if the motor is burned out.
And I've never seen one here in the US with screws in the bottom plate! By the way, yours is in amazing cosmetic shape for a self propelled machine, they got horribly smashed into things and most of them bear many battle scars, yours is mint minus the cord, and that's a miracle because it looks to have seen a fair amount of use from the looks of the sole plate...
That Hoover is beautiful! I have one very similar, except mine does not have the headlight or cord reel, and is Grayish-blue instead of Burgundy. The agitator brushes on yours are very sound, and have years of life left in them. The bottom plate was held in place by the two spring clips and a little friction (no screws required.) I hope you are able to resolve the motor issues with it, because it really is a fine cleaner.
I had my Concept 1 when the Concept 2 came out. I think that you'd find the successor Powermax Supreme Upright which had regular onboard tools. I know that if I returned to synthetic rugs I'd look for one since I liked my Concept 1 so much.
If I remember correctly the handle needs to be pushed down to lock the switch into the non self propelled position. The odd sound that it made for the moment that the motor started could be a shroud touching the motor. It happened to some of them.
That's a shame the machine is DOA. It is likely related to the damaged cord. There could be a short inside the machine near the cord reel, or when the cord was ran over, it dug deep into the insulation and nicked one of the lead wires. If I remember correctly, many Concepts sound quite rough, as the motors tend to have deteriorated quite quickly in these.
Cool looking vacuum. I always wanted one but never did for some reason. I busted out laughing when you did the American act and those socks are awesome.
Hi Roger - I am new to vacuums but could you tell me what DAMS are? Someone on Vacuumland has posted his huge collection of Hoover vacuums and one group is called DAMS. But what are they?
DAMS is an abbreviation for Dial a Matic, a hard bag clean air upright cleaner with a socket at the back to plug in a hose and tools. In the UK it was knows as the Convertible.
Hi Roger... Your American accent is nearly as bad as my attempt at a British one is :). Very funny... Anyway I love your channel and I'm very sorry this didn't work, I know how disappointing that is. The power drive Concept 1 was the first vacuum I collected and it was a slippery slope from there. I had a similar issue with mine and a friend's father cleaned the carbon brushes for me and it started working again... But I don't know much about repairing electrical and motor issues... With the self propelled handle , in order to get it turned off, the handle has to be in a certain place so that the switch will slide into a slot that locks it into position, likely somewhere near the middle of its travel... Try pushing the switch toward the off position while moving the handle up and down until you feel it slide into the slot that locks it... Good luck with the repair, looking forward to seeing it once you get it fixed!!
Hi Roger. I have in my collection the Concept II version of this machine, which incorporates the little hand-held cleaner on the front of the machine. I also have an electronic version of the service manual for this machine, which I used to help me when I was restoring mine. It's full of diagrams and very useful information. Let me know if you'd like me to send it to you.
on the hoover concept one you can hand wash the bag and I even tumble dry did the same with my hoover concept two and I am from is so yours would be the same
Numatic has new Henry's! They have Henry Wet and Dry (Charles basically) Henry Reach (Extra tools), Hetty PET, Pro Kit and new Hepa flow bags that are literally called "Henry Bags"
That is so funny !!!! I also do a great "American Accent" - I attended school for a bit in a place named Hagerstown, Maryland and learned "American Hillbilly"... I also think we need to get a new cord for you.
I hope you are not offended.. My late grandfather was Vice President of M.P. Moller organs and I finished high school there.. It was a multifaceted education..
Very sorry the vac doesn't work Roger :( These were common in the 80's. Bought my mum one at a garage sale. Worked great until my sister rode it across the living room and smashed it into the hearth! Sure its just your cord that needs replacing. And taking it out of drive, the handle should be in about the middle of travel before the lever will engage
I bought a slighty different version from the USA without the cord rewind for just under $22 and apart from a new powerdrive belt and bulbs it works great.
I love the american accent that wwas great. The concept and concept 2 are possibly my favorite hoover models, i have quite a few. I do find them quite often, if you need any parts let me know and ill do my best to help out!
hay roger im in USA and have the same one but in blue and i found that the power drive only goes to off when the handle is in the middle or neutral but i love mine and i watch all your videos but im sorry that it didn't work i know that i wouldn't be happy if that happed to me can you tell me where you got the tools mine didn't come with any
if you want a new moter hood with the letters still good for 14.50$ www.ebay.com/itm/Hoover-Concept-One-Nozzel-Cover-And-Bumper-Guard-Fits-ALL-CONCEPT-ONE/263545985690?hash=item3d5c909a9a:g:wMsAAOSwOYFae4Ne
Akron is a city in Ohio. It's one of Ohio's nicest cities and was known as the Rubber Capital of the United States as it was Headquarters to Goodyear, Firestone and BF Goodrich. Also home to Morton Salt.
If you live in the USA that transformer would be totally useless for you. It drops down the voltage from 240 to 120 so I can use American Appliances in the UK.
Sorry Roger. I too was really looking forward to seeing this in action. My grandmother's was older as the handle was different and it had what looked like a diamond on the front. Hopefully you can get it working.
Sorry. I can imagine how disheartening it must be when you receive something that's travelled such a long way to you only for it to be faulty. Hope you eventually manage to get it up and running.
you can get parts from www.repairclinic.com and ebay and have them shipped. i have a manual that i can scan to you demonstrating how to take this vacuum apart and rewire it. just be aware the wire colors are white for neutral and black for live NOT brown and blue
I have one in a light blue but it doesn't have a head light and it does not have the automatic cord rewind. I can send you some things about the American vacuums just message me on Facebook
