You have the most comprehensive vacuum/cleaner reviews. We've been renting the rug doctor every 6 months as we have 2 young children who are incredibly adept at ruining carpets. It costs roughly 50 bucks each time when you buy a thing of cleaner too. At $300 cdn, this seems like the no brainer in the long run. Found this unit on sale for 20% off so I'm going to pick one up tomorrow.
I think Bissell finally got it down with the 2X technology. Along with some good high-traffic carpet cleaning solution, they work very well. I’d be interested in seeing Hoover implement the spin scrub brush along with a standard brush, that way you get agitation in all directions.
You would think so... I'm so confused because when going to the carpet, rug institute site...I can't imagine them NOT testing Bissells...but all I saw on there (with their four levels in order from low to high) Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum... all I saw on there were Hoover Elite, Turbo Scrub and smart wash and powerdash...With either Bronze or silver rating....all the others I saw were big bulky systems or pro systems or commercial cleaning services...So either they didn't test Bissell OR they did and they didn't make it in their tests... sorry I know this comment was made 4 years ago but I just happened a long and was reading through...Hope you're still alive and well
The only failure point on the Bissell is that the water tank gasket is not replaceable. You would need to engineer something or buy a new tank down the road if it fails.
Thank you SO MUCH for this review. I got the Bissell instead of the Hoover and I am happy as a clam! My old Hoover Power Scrub took literally 10x as long to clean 1/2 as much crud out of my carpets. I never thought I'd be able to undo what my roommate's golden retriever did to these carpets haha
I love my hoover smartwash.... it's super easy to use without having to hold the button that bissell has and I find it annoying. I also like the concept of automatically measuring water and soap but I find if you put soap in the water container vs. It being separated it cleans the carpet way better
HOOVER IS 10 AMPS OF SUCTION POWER VS THE BISSELL AT 6.8 AMP.. NOT A FAIR COMPARISON. HOOVER AT 10 AMPS WILL EAT THAT CRAPPY MOTOR OF 6.8 FOR LUNCH ANYTIME.
I use the no bissell and it works so well. If U know what u are dling, you really won't need an expensive carpet cleaner or a bunch of different chemicals
Any difference between the Bissell proheat 2x revolution pet pro and the Bissell proheat 2x revolution pet? Only differences can see is the spot cleaning on the Pet Pro and a longer warranty.
Had a Hoover that I bought a year ago. Thinking of getting bissell now. Got rid of my original hoover to get better pricing on my Kirby but after few weeks our dog had stomach issues and I didn’t have anything to be able to get rid of stains from carpet from dog diarrhea.
Thanks for the review very helpful. I am borrowing my moms Bissell Revolution 2x Pet Pro. Its a different color but very close to the same. The solution tank on hers is kinda strange and needs to be wedged in at an angle to seat correctly. The ones on the video's I've been watching just slide down. Also I am unable to get it to spray. It's not able to suck the solution out of the upper tank. It just pull water off the carpet just fine though. Brushes are strong, belts are good, one of the 3 belts is a tad worn( I ordered one for her). Tried just about everything. Hence my reason for looking for a new shampoo'er. I was very interested in the Hoover Smartwash, because of the Bissell issues. Now I'm not so sure. :( Bummer!!!
Hey, I have the green revolution and it’s ok. I’m already looking for a new carpet washer for now and when mine breaks, I can just buy one right away. Right now I’m looking at the Hoover power scrub elite (I believe that’s what it’s called). Could you please test that when you have a chance?
According to Wikipedia, the Hoover company was owned by Maytag until 2005. Then Maytag merged with Whirlpool in 2006 and Whirlpool sold Hoover to Techtronic Industries (based in Hong Kong) in 2007. I noticed that the Hoover vacuums aren't as good as I remember when I was a kid. I bought a Hoover Elite Rewind (model #UH71012) back in 2016 and it works great but it doesn't seem much different than the Dirt Devil FeatherLite (model #UD70120). I sold the Dirt Devil to a friend when I upgraded to the Hoover and he doesn't like it. Then again, it's almost 2019 and that Dirt Devil still has the original belt and filters. I told him to get the new parts but he wants a different vacuum. I told him he'd be much happier with a bagged vacuum since he never empties the dirt cup or cleans the filters. You don't have to empty the vacuum or clean the filters after every use on a bagged vacuum.
So glad to have found this comparison. I just ordered the Bissell Proheat 2x Revolution Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner and was wondering if I made a mistake and should have ordered the Hoover Smartwash. I have been subscribed to your channel for a while but for some reason didn't think to check your reviews until after I placed my order. Thanks for the valuable information and confirmation that I ordered the right one.
Bissell: $308 Hoover: $199 O.o "Concidering the retail price is just about the same: if you think $109 price difference is "about the same" I'd really realllly like your kind of paychecks 😅🤣
I hear you. I've learned over time (this video is from 2018!) to be more cautious about comparing price points. Those really can change over time and make a video misleading. Thanks for the reminder and thanks for watching too!
@@VacuumWars Could you please do a comparison between the Bissell Proheat 2x Revolution Pet Pro and the Hoover Dual Power Pro? It would be a very interesting video seeing which cleans better (Bissell uses 2 standard brush rolls, Hoover uses 2 in 1 standard brush roll and spin scrub)
I was able to get this hoover smartwash on black Friday for $110 (tax included)...at that price would you recommend the smartwash in comparison to similar priced models?
The Hoover has an automix future which is really nice. Since the shampoo is in a separate container, if you end up not using all the solution you can pour it back into the bottle.
Very nice and concise review! Ironically I ended up seeing this after I bought the Hoover. However, I don't regret my purchase. There might be some variance in quality control between units; I've had no trouble with the power button and my unit will stay in the wash mode while moving very slowly forward (so far there is no issue with it switching to dry mode by mistake). At the time of purchase, the Hoover was also on sale and more affordable. My only gripe so far is that the release button to put the unit into cleaning mode has been somewhat finicky. Overall, both vacuums seem like very good options that any owner should be happy with, regardless of price or brand.
I bought the Bissell then switched to the Hoover. Do you notice how long the bristles are between these machines? My carpet is deeper than the length of the Bissell's bristles but not as deep as the Hoover's bristles. Those long bristles were able to dig out much more dirt. I did not have any issue with the Hoover switch or applying cleaning solution at slow speed. I agree both these machines are well above average.
Since you have both, which one do you recommend? Been watch videos on both and can't find any reviews were people are saying 100% that This is the best cleaner. I keep seeing/reading pros and cons on both. I heard that the Bissell is very loud, very heavy, won't last long. I heard the Hoover, doesn't clean as well as the Bissell, the cord is shorter, which could be a issue(watched 2/3 videos) Don't know which one to choose. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😊
I have this exact Bissell cleaner and it is worth every penny! I have wall-to-wall carpet with 2 dogs, 3 cats, a teenage son, and a husband. So I have a lot of need for a good carpet shampooer lol. I recommend this machine every chance I get.
Can you test the Bissell Proheat 2x vs Hoover Power Scrub Elite ? I've seen good reviews on the Hoover and just wondering how it compares to the Bissell.
I really enjoy your videos, they're very helpful. I think there's a few points missed here, the Hoover is so easy to take apart and clean which is a huge plus for me personally. The Bissell brushes also keep moving when using the hose attachment which can cause damage to other areas. I've seen a lot of reviews saying the Bissell leaks like crazy too.
I’ve read tons of reviews of leaks as well, my neighbor let me use his and it definitely leaked a few times while I’m off mode or upright mode. I went Hoover and wow this machine rocks.
I had the Bissel and ended up returning it to Costco as it emptied itself in my kitchen while i was moving furniture to carpet clean, bought the hoover and so far so good, cleans as well from first looks, build quality is a smidge below the bissel though.
i had 3 bissell deluxe carpet cleaners over the years and none of them lasted more than 3 years always broke down . I bought a hoover and have had it for 5 years and no problems.
I just purchased the hoover smartwash advanced to replace my bissel proheat 2x rev. I will try and be concide as to why: - The Bissel is very difficult to clean, it is not nearly as user friendly. Cleaning the Hoover is a breeze and im confident im cleaning it well with half the effort. - I agree the auto sensing wash versus dry is annoying, but you get used to it. - I really like the separation of the water and solution canisters. I never have to worry about using too much or too little solution, and I feel comfortable leaving water and solution in their tanks to be ready to use for next clean up. - I understand people will have different experiences, but I have had a consistently bad experience with Bissel carpet cleaners. I have bought a new one every 2 years for the past 6 years, and frankly, im tired of it. Im hoping the Hoover the will prove more long lasting. I also already enjoy how much easier it is to clean, which is probably the biggest pro for me.
How easy do the components come apart on the Bissell? The Hoover smart wash components including the roller brushes can be removed and replaced easily for cleaning the machine. I would recommend the Smart wash just because of this feature. You can also use the machine with the soap dispenser removed to do a water only wash. Some things to think about....
HOOVER IS 10 AMPS OF SUCTION POWER VS THE BISSELL AT 6.8 AMP.. NOT A FAIR COMPARISON. HOOVER AT 10 AMPS WILL EAT THAT CRAPPY MOTOR OF 6.8 FOR LUNCH ANYTIME.
I absolutely love my hoover smartwash. It worked so much better then the rented ones i used before. Thank you for your review! I'm loving my S9+ and brava jet m6 aswell
@@VacuumWars lol its funny I've always enjoyed household items and my wife and i looking at upgrading from our older dyson dc33 to either the v11 outsize or the shark vertex cordless. Think she's about over my vacuum research videos lol
I was originally looking forward to buying the Hoover Smartwash, but saw this video and changed my mind. Spent a lot of money on a Bissell, and was VERY disappointed. It did NOT remove stains as I had hoped, and left the carpet very wet no matter which setting I used (express or deep clean). I bought a Hoover Smartwash and used it last night and love it. It is possible that my older Hoover with SpinScrub brushes may have taken out stains better, but I have an Oreck Orbiter that I can pre-treat as needed. The Hoover is hands-down the easiest machine I have ever used and simple to clean. I really wish I had bought it in the first place and saved my money. I have been cleaning my home carpets for 30 years and have used Oreck, Bissell, Rug Doctor, and Hoover products among others to do the job. I don't agree with this video.
Hoover FH5300PC has a 10 amp motor 5 year warranty, Bissell has a 6.7Amp motor and I believe same warranty but the latest 2020 version of the hoover smart wash pro complete beats the Bissell Proheat 2x hands down IMO. Stronger motor better brushes, one just has to get used to the auto mix dispenser
I’ve read the bissell can damage carpet if you park it in the same spot for a long time while using the tools because the brush roll keeps spinning even when it is upright. I think I’ll need to get the Hoover instead just because of that reason as I have long carpeted stairs between 2 carpeted landings. Hope bissell add back the features to turn the brush rolls off when the unit is upright!
I ended up with the hoover smartwash. The sensors work as intended, and clean well. I dont end up wasting more solution and can do an entire room or 3, on 1/2 tank solution. The speed isnt exactly fast as you say, because I can go slow enough to scrub the dirt up from the carpet. The heat mode only is an amazing feature to have as well. Cleaning the machine and brushes are a breeze.
I’ve had a couple of Bissells...3 to be exact. After only two years, one conked out on me so I decided to go with the Hoover Smartwash. I will be putting it to use today.
@@katiedid038 great! Just when taking apart to clean, the piece that holds the brush roll in, is plastic with a metal bearing inside. DRY it completely and once done washing the brush, dry the end that has a metal piece on it. Helps prevent rusting. Other than that, cleaning is simple and the machine will do the rest
greg ornatowski Thanks, Greg. I used it the other day and it was much easier than my Bissell to disassemble and clean. I was very impressed. Happy so far!
I am not sure about these exact models but yesterday when we went to buy a carpet cleaner we tried to get a Bissell Pet one and apparently there was a recall and they would not sell it to us at the store. I was also looking at reviews on the Hoover machines and they say they are great..once or twice..it seems they use parts that like to rust quickly.
Glad to see Hoover is getting away from the spinning brushes to the 2 brush roll design. The spinning brushes stopped working after about a year and seems to be a design flaw as this has happened quite a bit to other people.
@@Vcafr0 Design flaw air turbine sucks the solution directly into the bearings causing it to rust. They should have re-routed the turbine intake to come from the top of the shampooer.
Thank you *so* much! I was on the verge of buying a SmartWash and you've saved me hundreds of dollars! ...but now I'm holding out saving for a Big Green...
HOOVER IS 10 AMPS OF SUCTION POWER VS THE BISSELL AT 6.8 AMP.. NOT A FAIR COMPARISON. HOOVER AT 10 AMPS WILL EAT THAT CRAPPY MOTOR OF 6.8 FOR LUNCH ANYTIME.
@@Gioxtream Amps don't equate to suction power. A Ricaar vacuum I was looking at the other day had 7 amps and it'll blow my 12 amp Hoover out if the water in suction power
@@DJR5280 Excuse me.Please allow me to elaborate. The Amps specification is in a way, similar to Watts, as it also refers to power consumption. Thus, the logic listed above stands: the higher the Amps, the better the suction power. However, manufacturers usually provide an Amp value for the entire unit, which includes other electrical systems such as the brushroll or the LED lights. Of course, the biggest electricity consumer remains the motor, but in order to be able to compare 2 units, one measured in Watts and the other measured in Amps, you should know precisely how much these adjacent systems “eat”. As most of you know by now, the maximum amperage of any appliance is 12. Given a 12 Amp unit, knowing the head nozzle consumes around 1.5 Amps and that LEDs draw an additional 0.5 Amps, the real motor amperage should be 10.5. From here, things get pretty easy, because we can use the following formula: Watts/Volts (120 in US) = Amps
I’ve had 2 Hoover carpet cleaners and 1 Bissel. I have an English Bulldog, so pet hair is an issue for me. I foolishly got rid of my Hoover to “upgrade” for the latest and greatest. I bought a Bissel in 2019 and it tarted emitting a burning smell. I just got the Hoover Smartwash and am very happy. The Bissel didn’t agitate as the Hoovers had. Hoover carpet cleaners are the superior.
Remember. These products are for maintenance on carpets. Not intended to actually shampoo your carpets. If you get new carpet installed, got this bissell and went over your carpets about once every 6mths. You may be able to get by with not shampooing your carpets professionally for 4 years or so. Generally the average household should get thier carpets professionally cleaned once a year.
Y'know whats funny? My mom went to the store and was going to get a really expensive bissle (i think the one in this video) But then found the Hoover Smartwash on sale for 170$ Grabbed it and we have been happy ever since xD
I own the bissel and it does an okay job. They could have came up with a better design for the clean water tank, because mine always leaks. I've heard it's a common problem on the bissel. It also struggles with extracting the carpet
Our Bissell’s fall apart. They get clogged and require multiple cleanings per use and aren’t very easy to clean. Even after disassembly, too many places that gather hair and other obstructing material. The Hoover has been a big step up. Separate solution container so you reuse. Much easier access to clean brushes and other parts. Cleans great. Sturdier than the flimsy Bissell we just threw out. That’s 2. The ‘heat function is a joke too. It may keep the hot water you have to put in warm but it by no means heats the water.
Can't wait to get this Bissell! I currently have the black and yellow pro heat Bissell I got on sale for $99 and it was a waste of money. So disappointed. It works pretty good cleaning it the suction part on the front has broken on me 5 times because it's cheaply made. And it has one tank for the dirty water and clean water that's awkward and you have to refill constantly.
Smartwash ...separate water and shampoo so never to much or to little cleaner....remove the cleaner for a just water rinse ...very nice lid on the dirty water tank for fast emptying and cleaning also feels larger....and you don't half to go as fast as he was doing when trying to go slow...I have both of these and I like the Smartwash better...just my 2
The Hoover SmartWash is too smart by half. I have an old Hoover (15 years or more). This new Hoover fails in one big way: there is no Rinse Only setting. And I don’t want it to “Dry” in reverse I want it to Rinse in reverse!! This thing has no rinse setting. As this guy says, the only way to rinse is to remove the soap tank and push it forward. The old Hoover had a rinse setting and a trigger so you could target where you want the rinse water. This one tries to be “smart” but, like most things that claim to be smart, is not.
currently the Hoover is over 100$ cheaper on amazon, thx for the review, but at current price point the hoover is too good of a buy (199+25$ off coupon) vs Bissel $300
I was about to regret my Hoover purchase when I double checked the prices again. Good thing! They might have been about equal 3 years ago, but ouch, they definitely aren't equal now. Based on their website prices, Hoover is $279 (Cad) and Bissell is $399 (Cad). Interestingly, the price difference is even worse on Amazon (CA): Hoover $299, Bissell $488. Based on your review I'm guessing that $100-$200 (≈$80-$160 USD) price difference might tip the scale?
Something kinds funny one time I got a vacuum for free from my friend that lives next to me and he gave me a vacuum and when I tried it its only worked when I pressed the pedal and when I let go it turns off and I went to his house and he didn't know where to test it and he used the outlit next to his door but it didn't work so he opened his garage and it worked and I press as hard as I could even with my whole body (86 ibs) it sometimes still didnt turn on so when it was on the brush wasn't moving so I went I use tube and put it in but it didn't have the correct vacuum I had so then I ask my mom and she says she would buy it from Wal-Mart but literally a month later we go to Wal-Mart and get it but when I got home it was super hard to put in because it wasn't the size for it and it was tiny and after struggling I got it on and when I test it it worked like a charm and the suction was so good it could pick up metal next bullets and more and its like a deep cleaner I clean my room multiple time with the vacuum and it was SO DIRTY and it didn't look dirty and then I cleaned the rugs in my room and it was super dirty too and when I text my mom and sent he a picture she was super happy it fit and that I was cleaning my room and than she said can you clean the hallway and I said sure and then I texted he and didn't text back:/ but it was super easy to. Bye and thanks for reading this
My niece and I both owned Bissell carpet cleaners and they they barely lasted a year! We cleaned them as per instructions , vacuumed our carpets throughly before cleaning and they still stopped working within a year! They stopped putting out water! She bought several Bissells and had the same out come! We recently bought Hoover carpet cleaners to see if they last longer! These machines are too expensive to replace every year!! If Hoovers do not last than we are going to try a Shark or some other brand!
Hoover doesn't last either anymore. Used to. Used to be a great brand. Had one last 15yr. Last two haven't lasted even a year each with light use. Handheld attachment worked once. Cleaned it & let it drain as recommended, second time I went to use it - nothing. Hoover was sold to a chinese company a while back from what I hear. The innovation is in general great, they're listening to reviews on that kind of thing, but then they are skimping on parts so they don't last. Including using non-stainless steel bearings (not sure I used the right form of that word) and plastic gears. But I had the same issue with Bissell too. I'm fed up with both companies. I've decided I'm going to write to shark & beg them to start making carpet steam cleaners because right now they don't. My shark vacuum is the best I've ever owned so I would buy one from them in a heartbeat.
I have had a hoover since the 90s and it still works but it has seen the times. So it would be nice to see if they still last as long. Thank you for the post.
Will you test the bissell revolution pet pro 2283? It's only sold by bissell but has 3 cleaning modes. Express, deep, and max. I would like to see how much better max mode is.
Just bought the Bissell, thanks for the video.I bought a Vax platinum power max which broke after 6/7 uses so I was not impressed but the Bissell looks a lot better.
STOP !!! NOT SO FAST. HOW DARE YOU TO COMPARE THE HOOVER SMART WASH VS THE BISSELL PROHEAT 2X ?? THE HOOVER IS 10 AMPS OF POWER VS THE CRAPPY BISSELL WITH 6.8 Amps OF SUCTION POWER. IS NOT A BRAINER. HOOVER WINS HANDS DOWN. THIS IS ABOUT MOTOR POWER. 10 AMPS VS 6.8 . DO THE MATH.
@@Brickmaster201 I still love this and it is still going strong , I have had to take it a part a few times to clean the head because of build up and pet hair getting wrapped around the brush , but I take care of things and clean it after each use. I would still highly recommend 😀 the only thing I would change if I could is for it to have a bigger tank. You don’t realize how mush dirt and grime are in your carpets until you see it being sucked up in the clear head cover lol
Now please test with top of the range vax carpet washer because that has two rows of brushes and also one row of spin scrub brushes at the front that would be a very good test! Thank you
This video was very informative. I purchased the Bissell already but have been seeing commercials on this Hoover. After watching your video, I feel like I made the right choice. Thank you.
I have a Bissell Proheat 2x I've had nothing but trouble with it it STOP spraying water i went on line showed me how to fix that problem then it started to leak from the bottom of the machine so I had to buy 2 rubber seals now it's not heating the water so went back on line I need to take it a part again and buy a new heating core I've only have used this machine 3 times
Yep, Bissell uses a lot of cheap plastic components, this has happened to several of my family members, my Grandma is on her second Hoover Carpet Cleaner after the first one gave out after 20 years of everybody borrowing it to clean their carpet.
Just unpackaged our Bissell 10 min ago! Can't wait to use it! I had a beautiful, expensive Hoover Steam Path for 20 year's. After it finally died, we bought another Hoover. After 3 'light' uses, it became useless! It was a piece of garbage and everything that could have been wrong, was. I'm hoping Bissell is as good as all of the review's I've been reading and also, because they are all about animal's! Love that!
