I agree with this, as from what I have read, with the serial numbers the first four digits are the model, followed by the year (in this case a 5) and then the next two digits are the month of production. You have to know the decade of production, but in this case it's clearly a 1990s machine, hence 1995. I was surprised to see the older type of Volex moulded plug used on a Hoover cleaner produced as late as this, but of course I suppose it all depends on what stock of power cord Hoover had at the time - there were various lengths, depending on the model. Either way, it was on the cusp of the change over to the newer, squarer & flatter Volex plug.
My mum used to have one of these, im sure of it! I remember it as being a sort of very slightly sparkly black. I could be wrong though, could have been this colour. I have no idea what happened to it but I do remember using it. As I recall it was better on our carpets than the kitchen tiles. I'll show her this video and see what she can remember!
Awesome find roger. I did see this and thought about but it. But as you said first time round I saw the height of the bidding and thought bugger it then missed Out on the relist as my Notifications had switched themselves off. Forgot to say I was gutted they removed the headlight from the later models, there was no need for that, it can’t have cost them Much more for the hood with the lens
If it came down to cost, I don't think it was so much the cost of the hood as much as it would be the additional labour costs in assembling the extra parts...it may not sound like it takes much time to fit the parts, but times that by however many thousands of cleaners were being commissioned and it soon adds up. However, by the time this cleaner went on sale, the only vacuum cleaners being sold with headlights were -as far as I can remember- within the Panasonic range (unless you include Kirby). I am not sure if the feature was seen as dated, or unrequited by consumers, or a way of keeping the price down (I suspect all three in equal measure), but headlamps disappeared.

Also to note is that by doing away with the traditional Turbopower hood (with integrated headlight lens), they could essentially use the Turbopower Junior hoods for the Turbopower and "...Plus' as shown here , AND for the Junior which always used this hood , and lasted until 2003 .
@@muk8804 The other thing about headlamps is that they came with a whiff of superiority that would have been in the minds of some consumers back then. Thus, to continue with a headlamp on the basic Hoover Turbopower range even though it was absent on the higher-spec Turbopower 2, 1000, and later 3, was something I never understood. Equally, when we consider the huge popularity that Electrolux upright cleaners attracted, it has to be questioned as to how important a headlamp was for a great many consumers, given that no Electrolux upright sold in the UK (at least to my knowledge) ever had a headlamp. Likewise, I can only think of one upright that had an automatic cordwinder (the short-lived Glider, in pink). But then as I've said before, the thought processes behind the "technology" fascinate me as much as they do confuse me. Take for example clean-air designs of upright cleaners in an otherwise dirty-air market; this was never, ever, up-sold enough in the sales material IMO. Yes, Electrolux referenced it, but never beat the drum loudly in that quarter. As for the likes of Panasonic, they made most of their noise about edge-to-edge cleaning. As such, back in the day it was not at all unheard of people chopping & changing between clean-air and dirty-air upright cleaners simply because they were none the wiser to what went on behind the scenes.
