This is a how-to video demonstrating the replacement of a belt for the Hoover Supreme Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaner, Model Number U5468-900. This vacuum uses the belt 38528-033 (which is printed on the manufacturers label located in the rear of the vacuum).

TIS VID IS 10 yrs old, but ever so timely. Thanks so much. I have replaced 2 or 3 belts on my Hoover. Watching this saved me more money than a little bit. Easy, a 10 year old could do it. I watch ed vid before I even bought the new belt.

TY! I am so glad to have fixed it MYSELF! My husband told me I had bought the WRONG belt,that it was way too short and he could not see how it would EVER stretch enough to fit. Your excellent video gave me permission to try and succeed! :-)

THANK YOU for giving a detailed explanation! People can always fast-forward to the point where they're having problems. I just needed to know how to replace the belt, but in the past, I might have needed much more detail. KEY POINT: Never apply excessive force as vacuums are designed to snap together when things are in the right place. Great help! Thanks!

Here’s a tip. Flip the vacuum over. Lay it flat on it’s front. It’s a lot easier to pull the brush down into it’s housing rather than up into its housing. Hope this helps

Thanks a bunch! I thought I bought the wrong belt since it was so tight and I didn't want to break something, but when I saw your video I could tell that you really had to stretch it to get it on.

Thanks. I was struggling with the muscling the belt on and as U demonstrated having the same issue I realized that is normal.

Using the power of fulcrum force, I recommend inserting the roller at the belt end in first to make it easier for yourself. Less force will be needed

I was thinking the same thing ... I started watching this video because I thought I'd bought the wrong belt: too small! But it had the same number as the broken one. Except that one belt had -1JJ tagged on the end of the part number (that was molded into the belt), and the other had something like -ee. I still don't know if that's significant, but think it isn't.

When the temperature is cold, you need to put the belt into hot water (no boiling!) for few seconds this help the fixing

May I ask what model do you have there? Hoover? Also, are all the Hoover Bagged upright the same? I plan on getting one...I don't know which to choose...the UH30300 or the UH6485900...

+Marty Backe So yours is the Anniversary Wind Tunnel Self-Propelled and Bagged? UH6485900? The same one in your video? Kind of confused to your answer.. And if so, does it have a lot of powerful? One other thing...is the one in your video purple because the UH6485900 that I saw are blue. lol

I purchased non-brand name belt for my TriStar compact. There are no numbers or anything else printed to indicate whether the shiny or the tacky side goes against the drive pulley! Can anyone tell me which side goes against the drive pulley?

?..it is a flat belt! Never assume!

+Dmarie Elliot (DeeDee) Sorry, I only use manufacturer parts so I can't offer any definitive help. I do know that the manufacturers belt did not have a tacky side. But if forced to use your belt I would put the tacky side against the drive pulley because the belt works only because there's a lot of friction (due to very tight belt) which keeps it from slipping. So tackiness would probably help. Good luck.

P.S. I had an old Hoover and I didn't know about this belt thing, so I just put it in the trash yesterday. Now I'm thinking it only needed a new belt. Ugh!!
