These strings in the beginning is one of the most iconic music moments in history. The whole arrangement just pure genius that few artists have claimed!
I think few people understand the significance of that giant plant-man and her obsession with protecting him. Shutting away from everybody and everything, only to be with him. It's actually not a story about love, but a story of co-dependence, and obsession, addiction. It could really be writen about anything we obsess over. Very fitting music for this story.
I think it's heavily implied that the cabbage creature was never real. The woman in the song just had some sort of terror of reality which she was desperate for something to distract from, and the light making the cabbage shrivel and die seemed to symbolise the fantasy dying when reality kicks in.

I didn't realise they were in it until watching the final. A good song but a terrible choice for that competition. Far too moody and slow paced for Eurovision votes. Definitely should have got more from the Juries though.
The other video is still the same band, they just change the musicians (and leaders of the band) just change their main singer from time to time. Although Geike (the singer in this vid) is the only one that actually left instead of getting replaced and she came back to the band recently so let's hope they stay together for a while now.
I have been looking for this song for over decade! All I remembered was a girl dancing with a green "monster", but nobody never heard of something like that. And last Sunday I heard a nice song on the radio, the song that definitely drew my attention. Later I checked it and ...suprise! It turned out that song with the strange creature I saw once. Strange but nice feeling ...
I have been asking people about "that music video from the late 90s with the girl who loves the giant plant" (which no one had seen but me) and googling to no avail until this day. All I could really remember was them lying on the floor together. I truly know how you felt 3 years ago! It still stands as one of the creepiest videos I've ever seen, I guess that's why it made such an impression.
I'm still looking for a song, too. I can hear the melody clearly in my head when i think of this song, but that's not enough to ask Google :x i remember the female singer, too, but no lyrics. It doesn't make things easier.
I had the same story with Mylene Farmer video about 2 sisters which I've seen in my childhood. Except that I had to figure that there was not so many world-popular redhead french singers, then download all of her clips and eventually found that awesome music video :)

What is it about this odd video that is so appealing & great? Over 20 years old, it is fresher and more interesting than just about anything new. The song, the band and the singer are big fixtures in this equation. The fact that they took a chance on such a strange video must have taken a great leap of confidence. 2001 I was flying from Frankfurt to Washington DC on a Lufthansa flight. Back in those days they just play discs on in-flight radio stations. I found this on the european pop music station. Immediately fell in love! Couldn't remember the artist or the song. Looked up "mad about you" during quarantine and 19 years later, I found it! finally! The internet is truly awesome!

That's the best defnition of a "secret, unhealthy relationship" I can think of, not because the fact that it is a gay relationship, not at all, but because it is a gay relationship between two closeted homosexual individuals. Nothing can be unhealthier than be in the closet, lying about who you really are and who you really love.

Saw Hooverphonic in Beirut for Virgin Megastore grand opening, never felt shivers down my spine like this before. To this day everytime I hear this song, her voices pierce through my being.
Love this song. Here in Houston this was the song our local PBS station played with a montage of all the hot guys on their shows, Downton, Poldark, Endeavor...took me forever finding the artist, thanks for this posting, who would've thought.
