Why do you think that? What's your take on their difference then as you seem to know it all.

Yes those vented discs makes a great difference on long descents

@@Sidowse I agree that V4 vented rotor is wider and that's probably the reason for the increase caliper width. The disc depth is no different. The pads on the V4 have the same depth as the E4 which is 15mm. The old V2 discs were much deeper than standard but not the V4 stuff.

@@MrBillybonka Not really. There "venting" helps with contaminants such as water/dirt. Any holes/venting reduce pad contact, reducing coefficient of friction. I would prefer less holes and slotted instead as I do not ride in the wet/mud but most of the world do.

@@Chambers36TheEnter There is any difference in terms of pad clearence? I mean, seems like there is more room inside V4 calliper than E4, it should means that V4 pistons will work more outside than the E4 callipers(with same disc thickness)..isn't?

V4 have more gap ( space ) for wider ( thicker ) rotor i guess.

I’m stuck between paying £250 each for Hope tech 3 V4’s, in the purple colour way and braided hoses, or Hope tech 4 V4’s £200 each, not looking as nice, or a cheaper quad al together, in all black Shimano xt deore quad £200 for a set brand new, what’re your thoughts, you sound like you know what you’re talking about, please help me make this a bit easier.

You can (If in the UK) pick up a nice used set of used Tech 3 V4 for about £260. I'm yet to use the Tech 4 stuff, personally I think the master cylinder is not as nice looking but there is some upgrades to the lever so it produces a bit more power and the caliper with the Tech 4 levers should have hybrid pistons, so overall it's on paper a better package than the tech 3 brakes. I also don't really use Shimano brakes but a lot of people seem to really rate them. They are cheaper but then there isn't anywhere near the level of spares available for them that I'd like. Once they break you're expected to buy new caliper/lever or you can use unofficial spares from China. I did read that the quad/ 4 piston shimano calipers are only about 10% more powerful vs their 2 piston calipers. Not much help really, sorry.

which is better E4 or V4

V4 is heavier and more expensive but has more power and can deal with heat better. E4 is lighter and cheaper but not as powerful.

So the E4 should be enough for an trail/enduro bike with a 66 kg rider
@Chambers36TheEnter
@Chambers36TheEnter Год назад
I would say so. Some people say the Hopes are a bit lacking in raw power but they have good modulation. Pads make a good difference.

@@Chambers36TheEnter so would be a shimano break better?
@Chambers36TheEnter
@Chambers36TheEnter Год назад
@@amx_m4nu2punkt14 Better build quality? No. Easy to repair? Nope. Maybe better overall stopping power, but for your weight the Hope e4 would be enough as long as you're using Mot, Tech, Tech Evo, Tech 3 or Tech 4 levers. Something cheaper then Hopes for Enduro, Shimano MT520.

If that can help my own two cents... The E4's were really great, no major fading or fails, modulation is constant, they were (still are) on my older habit, really great brakes I'd say on par with the magura mt5's in raw power... But... For my current giant trance x trail bike I'm trying the new very "cheap" SRAM db8's, surprised to say the least; they have more raw power than the magura or E4's but I'd say on par with the Shimano XT's 4 piston they replaced with a touch of added superior feel, the XT are more like a switch. The issue is all these other brakes look like shit. The hopes are always chef's kiss 😍 So if you got the money and like the feel. Also if you're like me you might wanna go away from dot fluid. That's a debate for another day 😂 For reference I paid (in Canadian dollars): 375$ for the mt5 with 203 discs. 720$ for the E4 lever & calipers only 400$ for the SRAM db8 XT idk they were OEM on a bike...

@@LaurentiusTriarius the DB8 are enough for a hardtail - everything above 70kg is too much for them (my opinion) but they are a way better than the level and G2 series. Got the DB8 on my hardtail and they are "okay" with 180mm discs and sinter pads
