ok so first i wasn't sure if i could access the good ending since it was apparently locked through a paywall, but a comment on the izzzyzzz video said that wasn't the case so figured it was worth giving a shot. decided not to edit out the middle portion to avoid confusion.
song kinda slaps so i just let it play till the end in case ya wanted to hear the full thing lol
i find it very interesting how the princess never speaks in that last cutscene

This ending is honestly more disturbing to me than the bad one. The way the happy up-beat music is kind of scuffed and off-putting, how they just spin around lifelessly, how the princess looks completely unharmed like if she didn't just go through endless abuse is just unsettling, to say the least, the lack of emotion just creeps me out

I kind of like the happy ending because its consistent with the games concept. The knight(and hypothetical player that would be seeing only him in most games) sees none of the horrors the princess goes through and theres only happy things in the ending because the game was won. It probably does need the player to see the other ending too though.

it's interesting bc it's basically like any other fairy tail but it shows how she feels along the way, it's kind of a mockery of fairy tail endings because they never show what the princess feels like but she is always happy at the end so they showed it in a perspective of "you got the same happy ending you always get but now you know how the princess felt and it feels weird" bc that's really how it would be for a girl who goes through so much trauma to just...be ok....it's...weird...she whent through trauma for days and just magically feels....better? It's weird when you look at it like that and the portrayed that "this doesn't feel right" type of emotion so well

i can imagine the rest of their days together, with her suffering from trauma and PTSD, and him refusing to see any of it, repeating the cycle of abuse by blaming her for being ungrateful after he's saved her. even after she's been saved, she's still alone because nobody will see the abuse she's been through. one night she probably leaves for the forest and never comes back.

I think the subtext was more than just mutilate, it was suicidal in nature. In the Dukes goals, what use is a wife that will never give you an heir? She wasnt kidnapped out of *love* for who she was as a person. Theres a reason its always a *princess* who gets kidnapped in this scenario, and why its *marriage* the duke wants you know? Royal legitimacy, along with the sordid things.

I don’t think this ending is a fantasy. I think it’s jarring and only shows a happy side to coincide with the fact that the knight never saw the princess’s story, and never had to know of what she went through. And after living through all that, she might not want to recount it to him or remember for herself. Like how often people will keep their trauma to themselves and not even talk about it with people they love for many reasons. Maybe it is a good ending for the knight, but much more complex than simply “good” for the princess. At the very least I want to be happy that she made it out in the end.
@droppopcandied
@droppopcandied 2 года назад
this is a well executed ending that i think is only disappointing if you look at it from the surface. the whole theme of the game is seeing the other, more realistic side of the story - depicted by the semi-realistic and unnerving 3d graphics you see in the princess' segments. meanwhile, the happy and glorious knight's adventure is depicted with this depthless, bright pixel art representing a joyous overworld. i have a feeling the developers set up the contrast between these two to be utilized at the "good ending" sure the princess was saved, but the discoveries and the trauma she experienced will not be healed for a long, long time. It's entirely possible she will go her entire life suffering at the hands of it, struggling to live with her experiences and yet just because the knight saved her, all of her intrusive thoughts, all of the abuse she's been subject to, all of the grotesque imagery and hateful feelings she's encountered - everything is supposed to melt away like in some game. the developers said it themselves, that this project was supposed to comment on how we never see the princess' side in a story like this. we take our place in the hero's shoes and often ignore what the situations presented here would realistically entail. when you achieve the good ending, the ending that satisfies the knight's/viewer's fantasy of everything going completely back to normal and fine once the princess is saved, everything effectively seeps back into that depthless, pixelated overworld, where everyone is fine, where you wind up ignoring all of the negatives the princess experienced like you would in a regular game. it's only a "good ending" because it satisfies the idea of what we often think is a good ending, the princess is saved and the knight is triumphant. god i could write a whole essay on why i love this ending, and why it's so. goddamn good. and has so much to say but i think this is what my feelings and thoughts boil down to. this game demonstrates how ignorant media and the viewers/players can be about the effects of trauma and abuse on the "other side of the story", the "princesses" or the "ones to be saved" and with the clever usage of art styles and contrast, executes their message quite well :) oh god this is so much

Yeah, tbh, I think a lot of the knight’s actual personality (and whether he’s actually a good person or not, or even real at all) is up for interpretation since we spend most of the game with the princess, but I like to interpret that he was probably really worried for her and genuinely wanted her to be safe. Honestly, he probably has no idea how badly she suffered, and since it was so traumatizing she might not ever tell him. the shift in mood is kind of jarring and unsatisfying but I supposed the thinking behind it was cause from the knight's point of view, everything was just this fun videogame adventure so once he enters the scene, it shifts back to that type of 2-dimensional lighthearted perspective and he never has any idea what the princess has gone through. The knight (and the hypothetical player controlling the knight) remains ignorant of the suffering of the victim and "the other side of adventure". really interesting stuff.
@binber2450
@binber2450 Год назад
I don't know if the author did this intentionally or if they just missed it but the knights adventure isn't all fun and games either. He risks his life, slaughtering hundreds on his path, risking death at every turn. I guess the dev probably just wanted to contrast the two because we don't really see the princess' side ever, but both of these characters would need a lot of therapy to get over the trauma.

After watching the full play through as well as the ‘bad ending’, I’m kinda floored. I wont say its a masterpiece or devoid of any criticism, but the concept is ridiculously interesting, and id love the developer/storyboarders/writers to write up a full expo into this. It’s dark, macabre, the monologues are beautiful and insightful. I particularly love the pokes at identity philosophy. Was she actually free at the end of the game? I see a few comments alluding to the idea that the bad ending is what happened regardless and this is the delusion she falls into. But i feel like this ending exists to illustrate the fact that the princess, of all of her intelligence, prose and poetry cease to exist in the presence of a ‘man’ or ‘lord’ or ‘duke’, ‘knight’, ‘guard’ etc etc.. in the other monologues we hear her almost beg to interact or even see another woman, hoping her make up would “at least be done by a woman”. There was also a really interesting comment on her coming to terms with a parallel of her own mother in the exact same situation. Is her dad just another duke? Is she the product of another princes tale? As if its only in isolation that her own identity and autonomy is able to breathe and combust itself into existence. Some weird realisation or coping mechanism. The idea that she is an individual until she is merely a plot device or someone else’s magical story. A mannequin of sorts. This is classed as ‘the good ending’, and while it is far more abrupt and safe than it’s counterpart, its also kinda devastating too. Almost like watching a second death. The second she’s rescued, she ceases to exist. Her only taste of autonomy being 5 days of existential torture, at the whim of every mans story and dialogue. Everyone gets a story, except the princess. Even the birds, cockroaches and the rats. Again, prolly digging way to deep, but its a poignant story and extremely relevant. But lmao, princess go brrr.

@@lysandracaspez578 right?? The duke represents a new constriction (and isolation) and the beloved Prince is the ‘constriction’ she always known. No mention about what she’s gonna do when she leaves, no dreams or small treats to help ease it all. The whole game was a barrage, or overarching pleas of choice. ‘Just please? Let me choose’ Juxtaposed with 8 bit dancing and sound affects at the end. Men defeated by men. After having a jolly good man time to talk about the next round table dinner where more men will probably laugh and rejoice and his incredible many story, then sit in a hot tub 5 feet apart cause they not gaê. I’d /love/ love love LoVeE a sequel. No kidnapping or anything. Just the princess and her mother having a moment together in her room while the rest of the men gorge downstairs. Explore those comments. Will her mum empathise? Or just go full ‘Cerci Lannister’ on her and say it’s part of duty. (Season 1 Cerci at least lmao.) Again. Not trying to pull a string and call it a jumper, but I really appreciate and enjoy the concept so much. It’d be cool if they ever do decide to make another ‘short’ about the aftermath. But ye. Give up on her For a messy $1.99?” (Which, again, in of its self, is part of the problem) And then they turn around, say lmao, jk, here uou go, fly off into 8 bit land where this 3 dimesnsional human who fought for life, dignity and empowerment disappears behind her hero, never to be seen as she was in the tower. Reduced into her 8bit 2d existence with no player controls. A husk with a smile and a pretty lil crown. Like, even then. It gave you some stakes. You unwittingly become part of that story. Gah. Knowing that bad ending I honestly don‘t care how cheesy this ending is, like, sure it feels maybe a bit badly paced but you know, I‘d gladly take this over her offing herself in that dark horrifying way. I‘d also like to add that as a person with a pain disorder, implying (looking at the few reviewers here) that Anisa didn‘t do enough or was to passive because she „could only cry or pace“ is pretty damn ignorant of those reviewers cause for many with chronic health issues this is their reality. And kidnapped people also can‘t always escape and sadly have to endure. And yes, some people end up ending their lives because they can‘t take it anymore. These are real experiences of real people, so to call this game mechanic flawed because it doesn‘t provide what you expect from the story and game is kinda messed up. Endurance is also a fight many of us have to do. And just like Anisa there is no way out for us sometimes other than waiting for it to get better or cry until it does. So really, Anisa being powerless isn‘t a flaw if the game. It‘s her side of adventure. It‘s enduring because it‘s all she could do in her side of the story. But that‘s still a fight. And it is a real one some people can relate to.

We would expect a more deeper good ending but we are shot back to the knights perspective. The knight doesn’t know about how much the princess has struggled through her whole experience, all he knows is that he has saved her and that everything is good. A lot of people are saying how the end either doesn't fit or hides the trauma that will inevitably lead everything to ruin by resurfacing... But I actually like it. I think it shows that trauma can be moved beyond, that you can be happy after suffering, that you still have a good life you can live regardless of what you go through along the way. I also don't think it's meant to trivialize the other side. Very clearly, the Knight kills hoards of enemies and travels all across the land for her, and she suffers her own hardships from within the tower. Neither of those struggles invalidates the other even if they're very different, and they can both come together in the end to appreciate what they have with one another. They can move beyond the struggles, beyond the battles and hardships and traumas, to find happiness going forward together, appreciating what each other went through for the other. It's really endearing.

Even so, she would likely live her days with the knight on the run because he did technically commit mass murder and she is his accomplice.

I think that the copious (and pretty uncanny) happy nature of the ending was more of a representation of how the princess feels. While there realistically would be a lot of recovery needed over a long time, mental and physical, right now she feels as if nothing was ever wrong, if only for a second. At the very last hour, she's finally rescued, long after she had given up hope. She's not longer doomed to be r@p3d and wed by a man she doesn't love, and that is more than she had ever hoped for for a bit of time now. While no ending could ever be purely joyful after such a miserable few days of suffering, the princess is momentarily blinded by relief and joy. For the first time in days, she's seen someone who has purely good intentions. For the first time in days, she's felt some form of touch that wasn't meant to hurt her. I can't imagine how euphoric it would be to hug your dear friend after days and days of being physically (and I do imagine verbally and quite likely s3xually as well) abused by strange, foreign men. While it isn't truly a perfect ending, it IS a good ending, and that's more than she would've dared to hope for.

I don't think this is an ending she imagined. It'd be weird after the whole "you paid! so you really care!" message. What would that say about their message? That it didn't matter if you cared enough to pay because she's long gone? I think the tone shift is only caused because her grim side is meeting the up beat fun adventure the knight was having. And after hes on screen he takes over (like as if we were backstage with her and now that shes on stage the whole mood changes) and what we see is the happy ending of his game. At the end of games like these we never see the princess unhappy all we see is the triumphant end screen and that's it. What gets me it's that both in the bad and this ending the duke's portrait is intact. Why? Was the destruction imagined? But she had a full line about it. In the bad ending the wardrobe door is on the floor but not here. She's not dirty with blood in either ending despite her lines the night before.

I have a theory: Remember how the princess mentioned 'maybe her mother' was forced to marry, and went through similar things in a similar room/tower? Perhaps there was never a prince/knight. We NEVER saw him with his helmet off - not even in the good ending (or when he was 'drinking tea'). That makes me think he's a fragment of her imagination, which also was never 'fleshed out' or given much more detail (besides from being a super strong good guy who loved her and would save her no matter what. You know - the whole prince character seems to just be an abstract concept of all that would be nice/heroic in a partner, and not an actual person). Maybe, the princess was always arranged to be wed to the duke - by her own father. She mentioned there were gifts left for her in their basement when she was 'very little' - while she rode on her 'dad's old shoulders'. She didn't even mention the occasion for the presents (ie, birthday). If a royal is arranged to be married in the days of old - it's likely to have already been arranged by their parents when they were far too young to even understand the concept. This ending is just TOO positive, even the return to the happy 2d animation makes me feel like it's suggested to be fantasy (and the song reads like a satire of an overly positive love song - it's also very repetitive. Like...maybe something someone suffering in captivity for a long time would come up with). The knight could've always been a fantasy she'd made up to give herself some hope in life.
@raggletaggle8827
@raggletaggle8827 2 года назад
Also, the implied pregnancy "I'll make sure no life is left within me/inbetween my legs" doesn't seem to come up in the ending - and the way they just jump to being happy (never realistically going through the princess's trauma and working to tackle it together as a couple is unsettling. Like yeah, they'd obviously be happy to see each other again and get the hell out of there - but....know what I mean? It's just too positive to be real, she'd still struggle to overcome the trauma of being held captive and r*ped)

ngl though it kinda make sense, I mean it's parodying the games where you play as the heroic knight and after you "save the princess" it's always seen as "yay everything is magically better forever more". When we save the princess we don't hear about her about all she went through all we see is that we're so amazing for saving them and that our presence just magically has wiped away all the hours we spent in the game dawdling while she suffers endlessly and spirals into madness. it tends to be too that whenever she's around the Knight it goes into his perspective which of course is going to be flowery and cheery.

I know lots of people are saying that this ending could be a delusion made by the princess, or how it’s a bad ending in various different ways, but this game is still called “Hope: the other side of adventure” wouldn’t that imply that hope *is* the other side of adventure? Even in the bad ending, we see her talking about hope, to ride on the black horse and be rescued, she puts emphasis on “his hand” reaching out to save her. In a morbid way, she saves herself in the bad ending. In the good ending you “spend” money in the hope that the princess can be saved, and if this ending is to be believed, she is. Maybe I just love good endings too much, and I just want her to be happy, but I feel like this really is a good ending, her hopes have been answered, she’s gone through her side of “adventure” and she’s free.

I might be too optimistic but I don’t think this is a bad ending. I don’t really think this is a delusion, though I can believe why people come to this conclusion. Well I think you can chalk the lifeless look of the princess to her 3D model and the animation. Or maybe it was intentional to show just how detached she became from all the trauma she experienced. Maybe the happy music not only represent the Knight’s or the players ignorance for her situation but her inner feelings as well. Maybe she’s extremely happy but she couldn’t convey that on the outside. After all many react to trauma differently. But that’s just a theory.

No matter how odd the ‘good’ ending is, I do this think that it was well made. Take the rest of the story, which is about highlighting what the princess goes through in your classic prince saves princess game. From the point of view of a player, who is experiencing this world as the knight, Anisa only exists when she’s onscreen. She’s a happy, beautiful princess, and most people playing these games won’t stop to think about the pain she’s going through. Instead, they’ve been taught to expect that same happy, beautiful princess when they save her from the tower. The other games and media out there have never really highlighted how being a victim of this kidnapping really is. Now onto Anisa. She’s taken from her home and locked in a tower, with no means of escape. Shes helpless, which is a common theme in these princess games. Throughout the days we learn that she is to be wed to the duke, and she’s also implied to have been abused (day 4 I believe, the duke not wanting to get her dress dirty as he’s then described to have beat her. Also, the black eye lol) and even possibly r*ped (implied pregnancy with the line of ‘make sure no life is left inbetween my legs’). Anisa is going through severely traumatic situations, to the point where she takes her own life instead of wanting to deal with the pain any longer. And she isn’t the first one either. She recalls her mother going through the same thing, and questions if she too had her ankles smashed and such. This torture of seemingly a trend in this story.. but you don’t see that from the Knights point of view. The endings are what makes this game a masterpiece. In the bad ending, in which she takes her own life, she recalls with almost happiness how she made the rope to hang herself. She wanted to make something with her own hands, and she did such with the rope. She even says how her wedding vail served her well. The bad ending is one where she’s given freedom from this torture and expresses such. She’s not happy to be dead per say, but she’s happy to be free. And then there’s the good ending, which is more unsettling to me. Outside her tower, she heard her knight and the duke fighting, accompanied by video game sound effects. It draws the player back to the fact that this indeed is a video game, and it’s almost lighthearted with the fun 8 bit sounds. It breaks the immersion of watching this girl descend into madness. And finally, once her knight does open the door to save her, not a single word is spoken on Anisas part. She goes back to simply being a character in a game. You can see her dress go back to normal and her black eye disappear as they spin around in the grass, because that’s what the player wants to see. When you go through a game to save a princess, you want a nice ending, not a traumatized princess. So she simply complies and goes back to just being a ‘prize’. The one thing that really stood out to me was the use of presents. They fill her room, presumably as a way to keep her happy. In a lot of abusive relationships, the abuser will often give the victim gifts to try and somewhat silence their pain and make them think ‘well they gave me a gift, they’re not as bad as I think’. Anis seas even gifts as a kid, which could be the game alluding to her being in this arrangement since she was a child, and she was too young to understand. The kidnappers treat her somewhat as a present too. They try and dress her up all nice so they can hand her off to the duke. The fear of having her ankles smashed goes along with the present thing, since no one wants their ‘gift’ to fight back. They want her to be easy and to comply. But the bad ending is where she doesn’t comply. She takes her own life to escape. The bad ending is where she’s a ‘bad gift’. In the good ending however, she does along with it. She’s silent and compliant and goes along with the knight. A pretty, silent princess is his reward for beating the game. She’s his gift, and in this ending, she’s a good one. Apologies for the ramble, I really do love this game. If something I said didn’t make sense, feel free to ask what I meant, or argue or agree with my points, I love seeing other points of view!!

So are you implying that the ending where the princess ends up with the knight who beat the duke is actually even less of a happy ending for her than the one where she kills herself? 🤔
@BeesKnees28
@BeesKnees28 2 года назад
@@adamdavis1648 not exactly, no. Not entirely, at least. The point I was trying to convey from what I said is that Anisa was badly damaged from her time in the tower. She was mentally and very possibly physically abused, something no one deserves to go through. It’s terrible, and a very very hard thing to live through. In the bad ending, she is at least given some kind of closure. In the happy ending though, the struggles Anisa went through aren’t addressed. Her injuries are simply gone, which heavily ties into the whole “pretty perfect princess” image these games portray. As a player, you expect to see your perfect princess waiting for you once you beat the game, and so Anisa simply reverts back to that perfect princess state, which contrasts to her state right before that. Her story and hardships are horribly undermined in the good ending. She isn’t given any closure or help for that torture she endured. Yes, it is horribly grim that she ended up being pushed to the verge of suicide in the bad ending, but personally to me, it seems almost more fulfilling than the good ending. As I said, she speaks fondly of making the noose, seeing as she’s happy to make something from her own hands. She’s not happy to die, she’s happy to escape the pain. In the good ending, she doesn’t escape the pain, it just gets ‘stopped’. Think of it like a tub you’re filling with water. The only way to get rid of the water is to drain the tub, or in Anisa’s case, the bad ending. But by simply just shutting off the water, the water already in the tub is still there. Her trauma still remains, and will continue to do so for god knows how long. Who knows, maybe she went to therapy after all of this and is thriving now lmao, but we can only definitely go off of what is shown

One end this could be a delusion another and 2 I think it could be a commentary. So the knight is going to only experience this. Is my personal opinion it's a bit of a metacometary. So if the player gives up if we don't put in the extra mile. The princess dies she gives up and we get this very dark grim and arguably intimately realistic way she goes. If we don't give up on the night on the Prince. It becomes a game again and he does savor so it's which is the situation we as a player cannot give up on them. Otherwise they're both doomed.

I can see a lot of posts from people saying this knight would be resentful of a princess who wasn't happy to be saved, and disregard her trauma. I feel like that is not represented in this ending, and that any "hero" character tasked with murdering their way through an entire kingdom to rescue an innocent person who is unable to defend themselves is still a good person by default, and would certainly have their own trauma to bear, even if it's through completely different circumstances. Their PTSD would be unique, not shared, but both characters would have it. Anyways, I hear male AND female vocals in the whiplash happy ending song showcased here.

I'm sad I didn't experience this when it was around, because the unsettling way it explores incredibly dark and taboo topics is something I really appreciate. I really enjoy stories that tell the perspective of the victim, instead of them just being a set piece for the hero's story. The bad ending still allows her some semblance of autonomy, to choose not to live the horror she's being forced to live, and the good ending shows you her resolve not to give up and not go quietly to her fate. It really is a fascinating exploration of the psyche of the victim, and how their treatment would actually effect them in a more realistic universe. It's extremely Brothers Grimm if they actually cared about the female character's experience.

Plot twist: This is what the princess fantasizes about before she hangs herself, thus explaining how unrealistic and fake it is.

The game was free, it just made you think it wasn't, I guess that's smart

I hope the prince can help her recover as much as she can afterward. If it really is a happy ever after, it's always possible

I wish instead of the happy-go-lucky music, there was just a feeling of relief from both of them showing in the music when the knight finally has the princess in his arms. It would definitely fit more better since we saw how terrible the princess was doing. idk it just creeps me out how there's almost little to no emotion whatsoever. just a weird input of mine. either way, this ending is definitely way much better than the bad ending with the princess.. commiting sewer slide.

this ending scares me for some reason

It’s like this because it’s showing the ending from a players perspective. The knight player would have no clue the torment she suffered, and it most games have such a happy ending when saving someone instead of facing a more realistic and traumatic ending

How do you know they didn’t have a happy ending and she told him about everything she went though and he helped her recover and supported her

It seems like the knight (if he’s real) does seem to really care about her, at least considering he went all this way to try and rescue her from the Duke, and hugged her immediately once he saw her. Maybe, because he’s a goofy action hero he doesn’t understand everything that happened. Maybe when they got back to the forest she could tell him about everything that she went through. At least, that’s what I like to think happened. I feel like this ending is nice because, even though the Princess’ trauma won’t be fixed with a single dance from the knight, it shows that, perhaps, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel. The game even says that it can tell you care about the Princess, so I think this is kind of the true ending.

This song now is stuck in my head. With no context it's just the funniest shit i've ever heard. I definitely agree with the comments it helps the game's narrative and I find it disturbing the knight will just never know and you get this really unfitting uncomfortable happy music, BUT GOD DAMMIT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE CONTEXT FOR THIS IT'S JUST THE STUPIDEST MOST UPBEAT SONG I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD. IT'S JUST SO GAY?? IT'S TOO UPBEAT AND STUPID IT'S SO BAD BUT IT'S GOOD

The good ending isn't exactly happy either considering how she's going to have to live with such trauma.

I’ve seen both endings and yeah, it’s pretty bad (her situation and what she did in the bad ending) but I like to think; despite what happened to the princess. The knight will help them through it 😊 it makes me happy seeing her smiling while they spin
