@@hanshandkante5055 The Wackies cut is a uniquely heavy rendition, BUT with a quite different vibe to this, the traditional Golden Era cut that spawned 1,000 dubplate versions heard out on every sound for years. I'm not sure this is a zero-sum debate...both versions are absolutely immense.
Scientist in a class of his own, been loving his work since 1981. Beam Down from Scientist meets The Space Invaders is still my all time favourite Scientist Dub though, tune got turned inside, outside upside down. Big up Hopeton Brown from me in the UK 👊🏾🎶🇯🇲
I love this mans sound.. and its amazing now with AI technology u can take any reggae sound seperate all the tracks/instruments and create your own sounds like this.. this has became a hobby for me!
Just got home from the Scientist 'Vampires' LP gig at Jazz Cafe Camden. Was hoping he would be mixing from original studio tapes...lol... actually my mate was, I expected a band but still. Good idea, if it happened. Was happy to pay the £27.50 just to catch a glimpse of the great man, but to be honest Scientist kept it so low-key, I did wonder if it was worth it frankly. The crowd facing towards the band barely interacted with him. The band were good, but the staging didn't put Scientist front & centre like I hoped it would. At a similar event w/ Creation Rebel at the same venue a few years back, Adrian Sherwood was right on the stage upfront, equally prominent with the band. This wasn't the case with Scientist. Rather like his mixing style is usually quite pared down, so is his personality. I'm sure he preferred quietly doing a little live engineering & then disappearing quick time, but still... If I was a promoter I would ask Scientist to mix live on stage from original studio master tapes.... bring in a huge 48 track console and some old Roland Space Echo type analogue bits & pieces ---that, I would happily pay for --plus a premium -- to see. A band isn't always needed....
Real and best musicians of today for recording(most important thing), proper recording technique , then when the riddim is ready,audio card or tape sends individual outputs to the big mixing desk.
