Scully Zimms is trully a legend! Best percussionist in the island, by far, followed by Sticky of course (the other dread at beginning of the video) Bleessed love!
Skully 'Zoot' Simms Foundation singer and player of instruments, Skully began his musical carrer in the early 60's in the duo Bunny & Skully. He then went on to record solo for Coxsone/Studio One with hits like "See dem a come" or "Bye Bye Baby" in 1968. Close to Count Ossie & the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari he is known as one of Jamaica's most gifted percussionist and has collaborated to an impressive amount of LPs... Solid Foundation!!
I admire his artistry--he's not just beating on that thing, he's getting all sorts of interesting and soulful sounds. Makes me happy, thanks for sharing it!
As a youth growing up on Whitehall Avenue, I used to see this man at a tailor man shop by the name of Baugh, and I didn't know that He was such a great Musician/Singer. He was part of of Singing Duo called "Bunny & Skully"...He was "Skully" AKA "Skully Zoot Simms"...RIP Legend.
it looks like a small wooden djembe, with the hour glass shape. They have it tuned up and sounding like a little bingi drum though..man, this old schooler knows what he is doing, look at those hands....epic
As long as you put feelings into your music, the result as to be great. It's what makes the music intersting, like every other kind of art! Skully rocks once again! No mystery then why the reggae was so intense back in the 70's... INSPIRATION
I'm still searching for words to explain how I feel; this man is amazing! Does he have his own CD and where can I purchase it? This brother is truly blessed. Wow, I can listen to him all day
Marvellous! Great playing... Shows great musicianship, and delivers a direct line with JAH or whatever you might call your source of inspiration if you're not a rastaman yourself
i saw this and loved it that much and the other clips that i just had to get the album and dvd after a long search i finally found it. Thanks for that as ive long been a fan of Scully (also known as Zoot Sims) and also Horace Andy but had missed this release somehow.
