Then why bother? Every now and then i see a random person say it matters to them. If it's a simulator I understand, but there's little sense in it. I don't know anyone who's walking through grass checking footprints or watching fire move. None of that impacts fun factor, it's interesting at first, and then you get to actually playing the game.

When I first walked into Plainsong and the Chorus was in session, I had the same feeling I had from the intro sequence of Bioshock Infinite. Like every piece of technology and every facet of the presentation synthesized with each other to create a moment that calls to an eternal theme in human existence. I knew I was in for a game made from blood sweat tears and passion at that point. They pulled back the curtain and revealed what they really wanted you to see, beyond all the trailers and the promotional material, what you're really getting for your money there.

Likewise, the whole sequence in Thebes with Faro's gigantic statue reminded me of Rapture in Bioshock's first entry! By far this chapter is my favorite in the whole game because it blends influences from Bioshock for the level design & Uncharted for the whole "treasure quest" thing.

Really love the Walking the Walk videos, Karak! It's a blast just hearing you point out and appreciate the crazy amount of work devs can put into their games and game worlds. Loved the emphasis on little animations, and you pointing out Aloy's dialogue barks like commenting on the weather or getting soaked from rain. For me personally, no matter what genre of game it is or if I'm actually interested in it, it's those aspects that impress me, and make a game world feel more alive. Real life people and body language are nuanced, and those subtle animations, dialogue barks, and other details can really elevate the game experience. It's why games like RDR2, Uncharted 4, TLOU2, and now HFW will stay on my mind. Insane levels of detail on all fronts everywhere.

I've slammed through Dying Light 2 and HFW to 100% completion on both... Now I've just started Elden Ring (will be the first Soulsborne game I get into) and man, idk what it is but there's just some strange lack of direction with everything. I like stories in my single player games and so far Elden Ring doesn't seem to have one lol. Too bad HFW and DL2 both launched without NG+... I don't know if ER will be able to hold my interest if it doesn't pull a Witcher 3 and pick up the pace and narrative cohesion about 10-15 hours in.
@apictureoffunction
@apictureoffunction 2 года назад
@@ScentSense yeah you night as well call it quits on Elden Ring now because the narrative isn't really going to become any more prominent than what you've already experienced. This is just how narrative is handled in Fromsoftware games, if you want more lore or world building, you won't get it through "quests" or other traditional narrative structures. The world building in FS games tends to be relegated to item descriptions and environmental storytelling hints. This has always been my biggest gripe with their games, but I can begrudgingly go without a more coherent narrative framework because I dig the gameplay and my friends are down for co-op. But if you really need a narrative hook to keep you interested (and that's totally understandable if you do), then Elden Ring probably won't really do it for you 😔
@jeckert547
@jeckert547 2 года назад
@@ScentSense yeah I’m 20 hours into Elden Ring and there’s not really a story. But I have played the previous From Software games so this isn’t a surprise to me. The story is more learning about the world you’re in, and the lore. Like that other commenter said, you can absorb this lore in a few ways but there’s never going to be a Witcher-esque story. However, a lesson I learned when I played Dark Souls 3 is that the thin story doesn’t equate to a lack of adventure. If you were to see the game through and beat all the main bosses and see all the areas, you might look back fondly on it. The satisfaction is watching your character grow more powerful, get cool items that you have to work hard for, and defeating the bosses. I personally look back on the game and think “wow, what an adventure that was.” It might not click for you though. There are a lot of people trying Elden Ring who aren’t familiar with From Software’s game design so a lot of it would seem weird. Doesn’t mean anyone is right or wrong. Just; any fan of these games knows they’re kinda like learning a new language. They are different than other games.

I thought that Red Dead Redemption 2 and Uncharted 4 were highly detailed games and they still are, even today. However, Horizon Forbidden West not only reaches their lofty levels of detail, but it also manages to surpass them somehow. Of course, the game is a visual splendor on a technical and artistic scale. Whether you are swimming in the beautiful sun soaked waters, hiding and stalking in the lush vegetation or just admiring the intricately designed mechanical machines and architecture, there is always something marvelous and beautiful right around the corner. Every single pixel was handcrafted with love and care and attention to detail. Guerrilla Games are masters of their craft. They are talented and gifted artists who have painted the game's canvas with one brilliant brush stroke after another. The game is filled to the brim with character, charm and personality. Despite some bugs and glitches here and there, which I'm sure Guerrilla Games will remedy very soon, Horizon Forbidden West is still a masterpiece. I can't wait until Friday to pick up my preorder copy so I can get immersed in the game's amazing and unforgettable world. Otherwise, thanks as always Karak for another awesome "Walking the Walk" video. It was highly detailed, informative and entertaining as well. I can’t wait to check this out tomorrow!! I really enjoyed the first game & can’t wait to see how they have expanded upon it. It felt kind of empty open world wise in the first game. I hope they were able to flesh that out a bit.

When I’m playing these kinds of open world map marker driven games, I usually get into the habit of just mindlessly sprinting from objective to objective. These videos remind me to stop every once in a while and just walk through the nearest town or outpost appreciating the little details, ai behaviors, little environmental stories about how these people in this digital world live.

It’s $70 for a game so I always make sure to take 200+ hours in open world games. I’ll be doing that for this one also and Elden ring.

These games like Horizon, RDR2 and The Witcher always take me so long to complete because I literally never sprint/gallop. I occasionally jog and mostly walk and appreciate how beautiful and detailed it is. It's really immersive that way

This is so gorgeous. I’m playing zero dawn right now to get ready. And it honestly feels next gen already. Graphics wise. There’s so much foliage. And textures. And the fact that they put did themselves amazes mex And obviously it’s a masterpiece but night time is so damn hard to see.

i can go back and enjoy playing snes games at any time and not be bothered by the dates visuals, so it would be no problem for me. i still think games like chrono cross look amazing, despite the huge drop in details compared to games like this. i honestly think people are brainwashed by features and numbers. for instance, fps. i play many games on 30fps and nevee saw the problem, feels fine to me, but many people say 30fps in unplayable, and in the future they'll be saying 60fps is unplayable, and even further in the future they'll probably be saying 120fps is too low and unplayable. same with resolution, some people now claim anything below 4k is unplayable and hurts their eyes... in the future they'll be saying 4k is blurry as hell and hurts their eyes. either they're brainwashed by all these numbers or their senses are somehow being altered by these boosts in tech, so what once looked crystal clear to them somehow looks blurry and hurts their eyes, and only some of us are immune to this. it's all so weird to me how these numbers make or break the game for many.

@@Jack_80 spoiled kids man. If you've never played classics, don't have to buy your own games, and you think you can get whatever you want by screaming about it; then you get these idiots. It's one thing to appreciate graphical fidelity, it's another to believe it is the only thing that defines a game. I'm with you though, I don't care what it looks like, only that I'm enjoying the game.

Shout out to the Guerilla Games for taking a dialectical materialist approach to creating in-game tribes. Start with the material environment and observe what people have to work with and *how* they work with it. From there you can build out what kinds of houses, jobs, hobbies etc that people have. Excellent!

You literally hardly have to use the inventory, except to change your weapons in and out. I like to play with the HUD mostly off which you can do. I would argue that horizon zero dawn is a better game than Zelda breath of the wild. I literally played horizon 3 times in a row. I played Zelda once. Zelda's inventory was pretty bad too. And you were always having to use it because of the terrible weapon degradation. Usually in the middle of a fight because your weapon just broke *again*!

I may well would have had the same experience but thanks to your sharing of knowledge, I will be able to have a greater appreciation of a game, which has always been a benefit of your channel; the pronunciation of detail. From Rdr1 to Mad max, and oxenfree, your walking the walks have always made me think more deeply than i would have.
