@@ksagstertohi6156 Line of sight is restricted and the area in which to land is tiny. Vehicles are parked directly next to anyone flying. To name a few.
Looked fine to me. Just like any other place most people fly. He came in too hot and tried to land well past his position. That's what did it. He can't blame it on the site, and neither should you.
@@joshrandall3632 A flying site should be flat with no obstructions. In this site, you are losing visual behind obstructions. You can't even see where the plane actually landed. How can you say the site is safe? You're crazy!
@@rjaquaponics9266 Yep. Ideally it would be as you described, but those of us who exist in reality often have to deal with imperfect conditions. To me, anything further than 3 miles from an airport is a suitable place to fly, but to each his own.
Yeah you wouldnt catch me flying here with all these retards flying e-turbines and fpv behind the box. These are the kinda guys that ruin this sport. Notice they are all flying foam garbage. FOAM=TOY. BALSA&PLY=SPORT.
@@cardinaldriver Foam can be repaired with a few drops of glue in seconds , Balsa can't, so you would need to buy a new plane if you crash your Balsa model!... Foam = repairable and they aren't toys ... , BALSA = That's the real Garbage that can't take a hard sneeze near them because they'll break... Your comment just revealed how ignorant you are concerning this hobby!... There are foamy planes that are WAY BETTER and Faster then the Balsa ones, not to mention that they are more durables and sturdy... Now if you were referring to the FPV racing drones when you stated that they are the ones ruining the hobby, you are wrong too because they weren't doing nothing wrong there... They were just recording the jet's flight with their drones and presumably with the Jet's pilot permission... I agree that it would've being better for that jet to be flown on a bigger place, but, hey, even in bigger places people make mistakes that cost their planes... This is part of the hobby too.... The DARK SIDE!...
Actually, it wasn't a bad crash. IF your foam breaks instead of smushes, you're fine. You can repair smooshed foam, but it's never pretty. But this crash, eh, he should be able to get things back to 95%
@MrThinkTank247 honestly, it was destroyed in seconds. The last few. Right at the end there. Blink, and you'll miss it. The flying was the part that took minutes. The actual destroying part was done in less than a second actually. Hmmmm, so yeah, you're right. It IS click bait! The title should read, "destroyed in less than a second!". It should be changed immediately.
That sucks man . But don’t stop flying because of that you are a good pilot and sometimes bad corn fields happen ... it happens to all of us . Get your head rite and get back up in the air ..great video.
Damn guys. I belong to an RC club where we lease 30 acres of land and have two grass runways with plenty of room. Flying an aircraft there was an accident waiting to happen. I also fly racing quads, those can handle those little areas...
@@jacklets3851 what he's saying is they are charging $500 for $1 of foam and less than $100 in electronics wholesale. But economics dictate that a product is worth what people are willing to pay for it, and clearly people are willing to pay $500 for $100 worth of parts so $500 it is.
@@bkpickell I mean that’s pretty much how all purchases work. And your not just buying the foam and electronics. A team had to sit down and design the whole plane which probably took months to do so
Exactly. Taking risks like that is always a bad idea. Learn to fly safely and at a AMA sanctioned flying field. This kinda flying is what is going to be the demise of our hobby. Back road carelessness. Guy spends five bills on a edf but can’t spend money on a club membership or an AMA membership to help protect himself as well as our hobby.
@@missiletm I would agree, but my experience at an AMA sanctioned field where I fly at is mostly ancient old guys who yell at anyone that isn’t a thousand years old, flying high wing trainers, or flying anything other than a left hand traffic pattern the whole flight...even if there is only one aircraft in the air.
I can't believe I'm going to say this but somebody's got to be the old fuddy-duddy..... Isn't anybody going to say anything about flying behind the flight line? This was dangerous as hell. Maybe it's because I've been doing it for more than 35 years and I seen a few accidents but trust me the only thing worse than being hit in the back of the head by an airplane is being the guy who's trying to explain to somebody's wife how he got hit in the back of the head with an airplane.....
@UC_RZDwQLGRhS5l_p0DJognQ I DO fly from behind the flight line, but the plane should not be.....and THAT'S how you get out of that one.... Butt seriously, and only for a moment or ill start to sound like my father and you will stop listening to me...... Its a fairly simple concept. Draw a line on the ground. Planes fly on THAT side. People fly FROM THIS side. Planes, THERE. People, HERE. OR Planes, HERE. (Runs quickly to not be hit in head by airplane........... Again.) People, HERE. OR People, THERE. Planes, WAY OVER THERE. For this to work, People and Planes just have to spend most of their time on opposite sides of the flight line. Don't worry though. You can still be together, alone, when you get home...... Then you can so stuff to her if you want.... Tape her up, glue her to herself, tear her apart cut her up throw her In a bag and dump what's left of her in the garbage if that's what you're into. Then just buy a new one to replace her. Get one that will do all the things the last one wouldn't. You know what I mean? Sure you do.....
EDF jets require speed to maintain stable flight. For the landing you need to come in hot, you need to use flaps and you gotta be ready to flare at the right moment to put the wheels down softly. No other way around it. I didn't see any flaps being used in this video. It happens, I've done it.
I've also flown around corn before with Sticks and slower planes. That Corn, it's just not forgiving. I prefer Soybeans, green is best. Kinda a tall, soft blanket to land on top of. Even vertical can be decent. Bit of a pain swimming out there to retrieve. But corn? That stuff just flails away till you got nothing but pieces.
@@williamcrane8236 That has to be the worst place to fly out of that I’ve seen. Is that the best they have around there? There has to be something better. Way too narrow and way too many obstacles.
Drones have destroyed the r/c model aircraft hobby in so many ways. I can't imagine a worse modelling nightmare than trying to fly a proper model aircraft with those toy drones zipping around everywhere. Sorry for your loss.
That's what I was thinking That's a very narrow path to land on especially if there's any crosswinds you got to give yourself more room which is hard to find that looks like a recipe for disaster just by the look of the place that roll looks very narrow and dirty and if he landed he had to have landed in a straight line to that corn look tough!
The best ive personally witnessed was a guy hovering his expensive helicopter ( 500 size I think) while another flew his 4ft plane straight into it.. The guy with the heli was literally speechless and couldn't talk.. We couldn't believe he just bagged all the pieces up and walked off like a zombie without a word.. It was like his brain went into protection mode and shut it all out lol.
@@ernestschultz5065 No he was more of a quiet geek type and definitely close to 60. I think he was just shocked and stunned but it was amazing how he never said a word and walked off into the distance with his bag of bits lol.. It was years ago but still makes me chuckle 😜
This is why we have proper facilities.propper runways and we r covered by insurance if something happens if we damaged someone's property.this is just silliness.
in 1987 while training in 29 palms my squadron had the rather dubious honor of being the first Marine Corps squadron to successfully deploy the ejection seat... My XO was piloting his Hornet with full ordinance onboard... loaded with 500 plb bombs he lit the afterburners to get off the ground.. The center-line fuel tank did not have the fuel cap properly secured and a Lucky grunt at the end of the runway got a picture as a giant fireball exploded beneath the plane... sure wish I still had a copy of that picture it was a rare one... Our XO got a fire warning indicator.. He could not punch out because he was still over the runway, full fuel bladders to his left, live bombs on the tarmack to his right, with a cool had on the stick he road the plan down until he was at about 100 feet and past the end of the runway. Once in the clear.. in his own words.. " I got clear so I jettisoned the fuel tank, it was still going down so I jettisoned the ordinance, it was still going down so I jettisoned the airplane... Your escapades brought this memory back... thank you its a good memory.. You might be gratified to know there was alot more of your aircraft left then our XO's
I love once ive crashed a styro-jet. I get it glued back together and i fly much more fearlessly and relaxed. I usually never crash that same plane again....
Came in a bit hot my friend. Everything was lining up perfect should have cut power flared a bit more. Hey it's happen to the best of us including myself. You were dealing with a bit of wind and the corn stalks on each side as well. I try to stay in big fields if possible to allow for adjustments. It's an expensive hobby but we'll worth it. I will be glad when they start making some nice vtol style aircraft or some equipped with GPS and automatic landing. We definitely have the technology to do it just nothing like that on the market yet. How cool would that be to push a return to home like on a drone and it lands itself.
Yeah clearly the 3 fixed wing pilots we had out have been flying together for a long time. We know each others flying capabilities and pay attention accordingly
@@matthewbalkema792 how does that help if theres an unforeseen problem? High speed low passes are EXACTLY when a problem is most likely to occur. A catastrophic failure at low level pointed in a safe direction never hurt anyone. Lose a servo horn or radio glitch loss of a control surface due to flutter while aimed at the back of a guys head and at the very least you spend the rest of the afternoon sitting in hard plastic chairs of the ER trying to figure out what to tell your wives so they will let you play together again someday.
@@dudebroski9460 we are assembling quite a few planes right now over the winter ! Definitely some combustion engines and wood combos ! Few foamies with engines too ! Needles to say , we've got to maiden quite a few rigs this spring so stay tuned ! We do have a video on some of our other planes on here too !
For some reason there are some very unrealistic people in this comment section that do not realize that RC clubs, and locations are in short supply. The nearest one from me is over 40 minutes away. The guys in this video look like they're practically in the middle of nowhere, they're fine. I agree the pilot is going a little fast in a tight spot, but I'm sure everyone there knew the risks. I fly my fully custom 6ft wide pusher plane in my backyard because I literally can't even transport it in my car. Just be happy there's people even in the hobby. It was an unfortunate crash, but we've all had ours.
This is so awesome the power and technology behind both of these completely different products jet versus quadcopter, I would really like to see the on-board footage from the jet as if it was one of those military versus UFO videos we see
Was a stupid flight. He was flying to fast all the flight. Put in risk the people there. Why is coming so fast to the landing??!!! Maybe have some problem with the left stick of the radio.
I have crashed so many models. Planes (both props & jets), helis, & even some drones, quite often too. The models usually scattered in many pieces, all over the ground!😱😑😟 Good thing it was on a simulator then!🤣
So, one thing that you NEVER DO.... fly a damn rc plane or helicopter DIRECTLY OVER SPECTATORS, INDIVIDUALS, OR TRAFFIC. I can't believe how dangerous this fool is flying that f-18.
Me: "Look how fast and graceful this jet is! It looks too fast to fly!" Bird: "I think I will fly up and swoop it and do circles around it!" Me: "Damn you mother nature, you showoff!"
Sorry to see the crash landing, such a nice jet. Not "destroyed" by a long shot. Some glue and paint and she'll fly like new. Next time I suggest finding a more open landing site, so it's not the end of the world if you go off runway.
Haha yep ! The front landing gear was damaged Christian the owner was pretty upset but debating on what plane to get next so I think he'll be alright lol ! We have permission to fly in this section of fields but we completely agree , next time we won't land the jet between two rows of corn LoL !
That walk of shame such a downer to such a nice flight im new to fpv just got nazgul5 4s and also got a couple glider planes the sky king from xk I got it new for 50 bucks and now I'm hooked i love ground rc now i think i love flying
I noticed how they seemed to have no saftey rules in place. Drones flying over heads and the plane flying over heads and cars. I used to fly RC alot. Going to get back into it but we had established no fly zones. We all stayed behind the flight line. And didn't step across it and didn't fly on our side of it. Planes stayed on front of us. Never over or behind us. Unless lost of controll or flight problem. Then we would call it out and any others flying would land imeadiatly and give the guy having trouble the field to get his plane safely on the ground. We flew larger 1/4 and 1/3 scale.
That landing approach looked dicey so I can't understand why the pilot didn't do a go-around and shoot the approach again. I only fly fixed-wing models in the virtual world using Real Flight 7 and Phoenix RC before it folded, but I learned to land with precision which qualifies me as an armchair critic here.
Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. Broke about every safety rule in the book for flying RC. No wonder the FAA is coming down on the rest of us because of asses like this.
That entire ordeal is about as unsafe as it can possibly get. This is what happens when idiots buy things and have absolutely no give a damn to learn proper ways of doing things
Good think nobody cares what you guys think lol. We can't all drive 2-3hrs just to fly for 25min. You fly where you can and accept the risks, the FAA is trying to ban aircraft because of drone spying not rc jets.
@@homersipes I flew a brand new plane, with a brand new receiver a few weeks ago. Got to far ahead of myself in my excitement and forgot to do a range test before the first flight. Found out about 5 seconds into the flight the receiver was bad and was getting a ton of signal holds. I was fortunate to get it down safely with out damage. All I can think about is what would happen if there was a failure like that was to happen when you are flying over the flight line like that. Seeing this after what happened to me, was horrifying, very very dangerous.
@@andrewvosecky9413 when i was a kid i remember seeing a 45% extra 300 fly straight through an rv at a fly in due to a battery failure. Luckily nobody was in the rv at the time but it was like a missile. I have been fortunate as to never have that kind of issue. I did get "shot down" years ago, i had frequency pin and was flying a 1/4 scale j3 cub and a guest was flying on channel 55 same as me and he flipped his transmitter on while tuning his engine and down my plane went. Its the shit in this video that is destroying the hobby for everyone else that does it responsibly.
This was the WORST flight line management ever! Read the AMA flight line rules: establish a runway, a pilot line and spectator line, drone pilots may not harass fixed wing and keep all flight operations AWAY from the crowd etc.
Well being a rc pilot myself, shit happens especially when you're not flying at a Airfield and you got to narrow Runway. But some people don't want to join AMA and fly off dirt roads lol.
That happend to everyone of us at the beginning. Title change: "When you are lazy to find secure runway for EDF jet... " 😀 That 10-30 minutes of more drive can cost you half a day of repairing or also the whole model... 🙂 Everyone learns... 🙂
