the queen, the brood, larvae and eggs are in the brood chamber, which is located in the center of the nest - I only video taped the outside of the nest! This log nest is queen right and healthy.
The Golden hive uses Dadant size frames, rotated up so they are deeper and narrow. You could build a box around it, big enough for 20 frames. Good luck.
Beautiful! I'm running a vertical log hive as well as a Perone hive this year. First thing the bee club guys asked me was how can the inspector get into the log hive? I said, you don't get into it, It's called periapiculture for a reason, leave them bee.
no this was when my father was growing up he had no bees when I was born.Just remember him talking about them and how people thought him weird for laying his down instead of upright.he said that he was doing just like his daddy did so it probably was a carry over from where they came from England in the late 1600s
Amazing log hive! We just set up a 'rescued' log hive from a bee tree that was removed in the SBBA bee yard. The comb structures are so interesting! Thank you @Gaia Bees!
This is just amazing! I had no idea other bee keepers kept their bees horizontal! I have a hexagonal shape top bar skep I designed myself. my original one is about 3 feet long instead of being upright. I will do a video very soon when the weather gets warmer and blossom is on the trees. Your Log Hive is just AMAZING! Thanks for posting!
+Алмас Калием about 10 centimeter thick walls; entrance on one side, access on the other side; entrances facing not the wind. Best to email me at gaiabees@gmail.com
Horizontal bee-nest were commonly used in traditional apiculture and honeycomb could be cut from the back. We are using them currently for conservation and research only. You can find more info at www.ApisArborea.org
@@Gaiabees Thanks. I have lots of mason bees and leaf cutter bees for that reason so was curious if using a log I can have both give honey bees a place to naturally procreate and also get some honey :) I will check the link out.
