H4350.....one of the best powders out there. I went to academy last month to find some 6.5CM and 308 Marlin bullets, walked up to the reloading section and was blown away.......they had 2 one pound bottles of H4350 slapping me in the face. I didn't know they carried it, haven't been able to find it at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop, grabbed one and wished later I'd purchased both.
Shooting different lots can change quite a bit, some guys re-work their loads every time they change a lot even just bullets can change youre MV 40fps.
h4350 is easy to get in southern Indiana.. I can get pretty much as much as I want in 3 different places within 30 min and I live in a pretty small town...
I just bought some of the Nosler Accubond 142gr. The BC on these is nuts. Now you know why I don't worry sbout deviation under 15. .5moa @ 100 equals that at 1000. Good job.
+meditech I have heard the accubond shoot great but the bc is way over rated. I am interested if your ballistic calculator agrees with the published bc. I have 200 of these, but after I did more research I haven't been as excited to try them.
I really think the 147 is the one to beat. There is another projectile from Warner tool. For a 122gr its BC is insane, they are very pricey though. warner-tool.com/collections/flat-line-projectiles
I had checked these out before and really like their product. If I was shooting 7mm or 300 mag I would be all over those. For 6.5 though the bullet is just to light for anything past 1300yds. I'm finding anything under 140gr is a waste of time. They just dont have the inertia.
My favorite load for the 140 grain ELD-M is small rifle primer starline brass, 41.4 grains of H4350, and CCI 450 small magnum rifle primers. Out of my rifle I am getting over 2700 fps and consistent .4 MOA. Could it be better? Sure, but it's good enough for bulk loads to keep on hand and the point of impact is close to the same as my 143 grain ELD-X and 140 grain GoldDot loads. (Savage 110 precision with an EC tuner brake, Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-27 in a one piece low mount and Atlas bipod.)
Nice group great vid. My load A-Max 140 (old color) H4350, Fed-M primer, once fired Lapua brass 41.3 grains 2.200 ogive, COAL 2.810. Avg. 2734 fps, SD 3.6, ES 8 Second string 2731 fps avg. SD 9, ES 22. Keep in mind I shoot at altitude 5,500 ft. Results seem to correspond. Thanks again.
If you are doing a shoot out try 140 gr hornady hpbt match 42 gr imr 4350 at 2.8ish my 26" howa shoots them at .3 inch groups at 100 yards. JRB has been having good luck also. They were hornady brass annealed with salt bath sized with hornady neck sizer. I would like to see them shot out of your gun to compare platforms
Greetings moparmadman..... I sent you a couple emails with pictures. I have velocity data. I think sending you a pic of my log book is better than me retyping everything here LOL... Cheers.
I have had awesome luck with the berger 135 classic hunters with pretty much every powder I put in it but the best from rl26... its a pretty hot load tho. id say im killing my barrel life but o well its a ton of fun... :) I have had great luck with the 130 sierra tmk also..
I have videos on the berger 135 classic hunter with RL 26 at 3000fps. It works well and I have had it hold 1/2 MOA out to 430 yards. It also works well on game and it's my hunting bullet of choice. I am guessing the 143 works ok but my rifle isn't a fan.
Another outstanding video! My inquiring mind wants to know , why is H4350 so hard to come by? Here in upstate NY is it flying off the shelf with demand exceeding product? Just wondering if you have any insider enlightenment! Keep up the good work!
+John Shusdock thanks for the comment. I have found it 2 times in a year. I get mine from a commercial store that just might publish their stock. It takes way to much time to get it, but stay tuned I might just have a new alternative. I have a new powder to try it. It's about like finding unicorns anyway.
I get criticized constantly about not providing CBTO measurements. But I dont know the tolerance on the hole size on the bullet comparator that they put out.
Oh...I understand now. Different ways of measuring different things. Thank you for the good video. Your other video helped me come up with a great load.
Please help me understand something. Im new to reloading having started in March when ammo started disappearing and until this week I was only loading for my LR308. Which your videos helped me work up 2 loads for (THANK YOU) I started 6.5 this week with MAGTECH cases, 215 LR mag primers, 140 eld Hornady projectiles, and H4350 in increments of .3 from 40.1 to 41.3. My dies are LEE. My rifle is A gen 3 RPR with 588 rounds through it. I set the COAL @ 2.825 as my p mags won't fit any more length than that. I believe my single the single stack mag I bought for F Class will accommodate more but my seating max was 2.856 so 30 off the lands seemed A good starting point. A few of my rounds were a little sticky feeding them. Not extracting but feeding I don't know what pushing back the shoulder nor do i undersizing or oversizing. Can you explain. My groups at all charge weights are .6 or smaller. Lateral and horizontal dispersion seems identical but I feel like im missing something by not understanding what "bumping the shoulder is" sorry for the length of the message. I feel like more info might help you answer a question with 1st having to ask me 5 more questions. Thanks in advance.
Hi Mike I have several videos that can help you work on this. First though check out this video so you can get the bump down first. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_lR3Dx-Er-I.html
1:45 you show you COAL to your RPR lands is 2.882?? (2.852” + .030”) My RPR is 2.850” am I seeing something wrong here??? I actually have all these components on hand except BR2 primers instead of FED210M looking to try this out. Please let me know if your distance to your lands really is 2.882”, I’d appreciate it. Thanks
Hello Sir, mine is a Gen 1 and I probably had several hundred rounds through the barrel at this point, but Yes my COAL to the lands was 2.882". I would not use this load loaded into the lands, pull it off at least .005 and work the charge up. There is a huge node around 2640 fps. I have tried this load in SR primer brass as well and show my results here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i0NMeauegf4.html If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. BAR
I also tried this same load in a LR primer test here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ypI6D-i57uk.html and here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0hx2_p-3MJ4.html I really feel that brass was a bigger variable than the primer after doing the SR primer test. Best of Luck. BAR
Bolt Action Reloading Really appreciate the reply buddy thanks! I’m running a Gen2 with about 750 factory rounds through it and remeasured the distance to 2.855”. I’ve shot Hornady almost exclusively and have saved all my brass. Interestingly, I recently got a Remington 783 16.5” 6.5CM to play with a shorty 6.5; and the distance to lands is also 2.855” out of the box.
Bolt Action Reloading I do not max load, hodgdon web site gives 40grs for 140 gr bullet @2660 fps. Mine comes in around 2550 fps. It's a good all around load for the RPR and a AR10 6.5 that i also reload for. My A10 is a 20" barrel and 38 grs seems to be its sweet spot also.
Hi John, I completely understand that you have no interest in loading to max. And depending on the distance you are shooting it may not have any meaningful change for you either. Hornady max for that projectile is 41.5 gr H4350 and I have seen others (though I am not recommending it) pushing to 42.5 gr. Sierras manual has data for their 140s all the way to 42 gr. so at 41.3 I feel it is completely safe for me. Keeping it as low as you have it I am guessing your primer pockets don't wear out very quickly either. Hope you enjoy the Channel!
Bolt Action Reloading i use 7.62 brass resized and neck turn for my AR 10. These seem to be a little higher pressure because of the thickness of the brass but my AR 10 loves them. Came up with my own process and getting ready to buy a AMP with the Aztec mod for my annealing. And yes i like your channel and several other 6.5 channels.
I haven't ordered the Aztec mode yet, but it's coming. I have heard of using the 7.62 brass, but I really haven't got into making certain cases into another. Any clue what the new case volume ends up at?
