Hi Oscar, Nice intro footage, always a treat. Great 0-6-2, the fact that it is obviously quite playworn but has a refurbed motor, suggests it was much loved. I was given a Hornby 2 rail 0-6-2 which had been given a competent repaint in Apple Green, not sure how accurate that is, however it has exactly the same Hornby label as yours on the back and what looks like an X03 motor. Smooth runner considering its age and very responsive. Thanks, Gordon

Morning Oscar, what a fabulous era for children's toys. I have the Wrenn 2-rail version of this. It has an identical body (livery aside), but the motor is completely different, being fairly similar to the Tri-ang X04. It too runs very well. What is very noticeable about the Dublo derived models is that fitting the body makes a considerable difference to the tractive effort, whereas Tri-ang locos of the same era have plastic bodies that make no real difference.
@johnd8892
@johnd8892 14 дней назад
Wrenn used a modified version of the ex Hornby Dublo plastic bodied R1 0-6-0T running gear for their 0-6-2T models. That ex Hornby Dublo motor., with Triang type magnet arrangement, was first used in the early Dublo Castle and 8F models as well as the R1. This was before the Dublo Ringfield was developed for larger engines. Smart move by Wrenn helping to get production numbers up of an existing unit instead of the expense of getting the original Dublo mechanism back in production.

Hi Oscar, some lovely running there. A bit of artistic licence used by Hornby Dublo giving a GNR or LNER loco a GWR livery! Those kind of fictitious liverys were very common in the old days of model railways weren't they as manufacturers tried to get as much use out of the castings as possible. Nice to see that someone cared enough about the loco to have the armature replaced, although given the price of models back then and that it wasn't such a throwaway society, i'm not suprised. Regards, Antony.

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Another wonderful video. It was great to see the Hornby Dublo GWR tank locomotive. Even though it's seen many years of use and brought many years of fun and happiness to some little fellow, it is amazing to see it and hear it going round your layout, and it would probably sounded just the same then. Can you imagine owning a collection of as new Hornby Dublo locomotives and rolling stock. What an amazing thought, and i would imagine you would have to pay a lot of money for mint, boxed items now. But to see these items running on your layout is just pure joy. So thank you once again for letting all of us see all of this wonderful British railway model history. Well Oscar, as always, it's time to have my cup of tea and my toasted tea cake. ☕ Keep safe and have a good week ahead, see you next Sunday. 👍🚂

Good morning Martin thank you again for looking in. It's been a bit on the rainy side this week up here. I think you're right, It must've been terrific if you were able to have a collection of these items back when they were contemporary especially as a child, magical time.. think you always need the most mint or perfect models to have fun with, most of my whole collection of Dublo has had quite a life before it came to me and seems as though it would continue to give a great deal of pleasure for many years to come irrespective of cosmetic condition just having these things in motion put a big smile on the face. All the best. Oscar

Morning Oscar, I couldn't find an N2 in GWR so I purchased a black body and repainted it in green, decals and numbers, not original but what is, do enjoy your many videos, thanks John

Love that you not only turned a tank engine round on the turntable (not strictly necessary as the prototype would have gone in either direction happily) but kept the realism going by editing out your giant hand moving the turntable! 🤣 I love how much effort you put in. The dual running had spot on timing. 👍 What fun! What a gorgeous old thing that loco is. I like that it’s in such a play worn condition. 😊👊😎👍

G'day Oscar. These little Dublo N2's are such cheerful little things. I have a couple in original condition, a couple that have full reburbs including paint etc. And one or two built up from boxes of worn out bits. And they all run very well. The bitzas have very worn axle holes and conrods, dodgy wheels and are very playworn, but just keep going and going. They are virtually bullet proof.

Hello Oscar. Thanks again for another fantastic video. I loved it when you had both Hornby-Dublo & Hornby locomotives charging around your layout. I have told you this before, but I think it is so cool that you have now quite vintage Hornby-Dublo 3 rail 'tinplate' track & Tri-ang Series 3 track on your railway. Your videos are always interesting & your calm voice & patient narration is so soothing, I can have a bad day full of aggro, but watching your videos always makes me 'chill'. Every Sunday it is a treat to view a new Oscar Paisley video. Best regards from a big fan in British Columbia, Canada.

I wonder how many real miles that model has run in its life. It would be a wonderful item if it was relegated to a static shelf display but to have it running that sweetly is quite amazing. Thank you for sharing this gem. Regards, David.

morning Oscar, great video, good memories of the early 60s as a child with hornby dublo train set, at present i have the wrenn N2 which is a good runner and don't have to worry about bits falling off like all these new locos.may i suggest the Davy Crockett loco being brought back in to action ?
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 13 дней назад
Morning Peter, great to hear the video brought back good memories. I've not got a Wrenn variation of these tank locomotives yet ( another bad habit to develop...) There's a great amount of play value in these as well as being very robust should provide many years of enjoyment with very basic servicing and the odd replacement/ refurbished part from time to time. Davy Crockett sounds like a good idea. I'll try and get a video with some entertaining running in early July. David Crockett definitely a little more fragile than these Dublo tank locomotives. All the best. Oscar

Lovely! My Dublo GWR 0-6-2 had the older 'horseshoe' magnet, whereas I see yours has the more modern 'sandwich' magnet; do you think that could have been changed as well as the armature? - or perhaps the whole chassis is newer, though I see it still has the solid wheels on the trailing truck.

Hi Oscar ,, maybe there could be some ware in the chassis where the axles go through. You may be able to get a small piece of round pipe to shim it out as in like a brass , steel or even copper pipe and cut it to length to bush the chassis so the axles are a neat fit to the loco. Also if you look at the 2 min mark , there is a spiderweb on the top right of the stauntion haha. Cheers from John in Australia.

Hi Oscar, It always amazes me, how the Dublo central "pick-up spoons" work their way over the points and diamonds? The system is all so well designed..... I guess that the Pannier tanks, would often have pushed short trains backwards between Stations in real life too? Probably not done too often with Tender locos though I expect? Nice bit of trackside viewing at the start of the video... Quite enjoyable.. Do you have any instances on this layout, where a small shunter brings carriages to the station for the Express locos to take over on this layout? I seem to recall that happening from time to time, on the earlier Super 4 layout, and it used to be quite an appealing bit of realistic action? I have a later version of an R 152 Diesel Shunter, (with the 'auto' coupler at the rear, and could be a different "R" number), that seems to have excessive wear to the front axle just like The Dublo chassis that you showed us? It runs forward fine, but jams up the connecting rods in reverse as if the wheels were not "quatered" properly? (it also drives from the rear axle, unlike the earlier version with the center wheels driving the rods) I think that this is happening because the axle twists enough in the chassis, to throw the quatering effect out of whack? I think that I may have to try making bushes for the axle holes on this one?

Good morning Robin the track work is certainly a nice bit of design. Must've been much thought gone into how it would work, distance between pick up on locomotive and insulated parts of the track. It does make a rather impressive amount of clicks and clunks as the models make their way over the various joints and components that make up the items of track. I've seen Ronald Dodds re bush the chassis of a double locomotive in one of his older videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JYHRBdFvvhk.htmlsi=K4rG-2TIHg2Kpkhe , I've not given it a try myself, but I'm think it may be worth to go. I have a spare chassis in mind, but have yet to get the right tubing for the job. This method should work for Tri-ang chassis, I have a princess and a flying Scotsman, which would benefit. Take care. Oscar

I had one for years; a three-rail converted to two-rail in correct LNER apple green livery, probably made pre-1948. Why has this N2 been given GWR transfers? Someone has given it a GW safety valve sans topfeed. Totally weird.
