A while back i was asked to do a video on the Hornby Colour light Signal. Unfortunately I couldn't find the one i had, but my lasses dad has one. So here as asked is a quick video on how to wire it up. So for any one who has bought one of these 2nd hand & the instruction sheet is missing, this one is for you.
One note, i should of changed the camera used to Nikon D90 DSLR. Cheers.

@scotplane I think on the Hornby Select & Elite DCC controllers, you can connect up the same as shown here (instead of using the accessory decoders). Look where it say's AUX power, on the right hand side on the back of both units. Not sure about other DCC systems, but i'm sure many will have a similar set up for the AUX Power outlet. The brown wire as shown here & per instructions supplied with the signal etc. Cheers.

The range of model signals now made is mind boggling, so many good makes out there now...... what to go for.....mmmmm!!

@theguy40267 No, if you follow the supplied instruction sheet that comes with the signal, it shows you how. Just plug the yellow on - on switch into the 1st switch. Only one comon return wire needed.

Be nice If Hornby get round to doing a more update version. Th Eckon's are great, will more than likley be using them on my layout. No worries about Barrow hill.Kind regards.

@MrHeadsocket Actually it's the black wire NOT green!! As wired up per Hornby's instructions sheet & as used on mine & several freinds previous layouts, for many years. As seen on the side of the switch, two coloured dots for help & ease of wiring up: Green wire to green dot, Red wire to red dot. The two wires that connect to the controller are the black & brown (not red), brown wire being the common return. I've also had the under side removed.

memories here, thats the signal I used in that video ( which will remain nameless due to spam) and I had it as a kid. Some fine memories here seeing the controller.

nice video really simple and you explained it all. can you post someone more videos doing this kind of thing, explaining the wiring of the device and so it all fits together - how about a simple point motor?

@wattass7 The Hornby Signal light keep it separate from the interior lighting, wiring. But you can run both sets of wire back to the accesory connection AC outlet on the controller.Cheers.

@jaannetts16 Yes, only one brown wire needed, as the switches all connect together as you know. cheers.

maybe model 1890s trains? no signals, just an old guy passing a 'ring' to the loco driver...not sure how that worked but do recall something like that..
@railandmodel
@railandmodel 11 лет назад
Yes, it does. I won't be doing a video on that, as no longer have these Hornby colour light signals. Will be using one of the custom makers for the new layout.

I would say the tube is doing the best it can to pull down the spam channels, still getting heaps on the popular videos. And the Thomas tubers clean out continues, this will affect anyone who posts train videos.
@railandmodel

Yes, the old token system. Still used on some railways. Cheers.

My whole channel is under attack, its not fun spending the time doing spam control when I could be helping others along the way. I see many Thomas tubers have been cleaned from the networks, this will affect you and me as this was our audience and network! Lots of tubers would have had your stuff set as favorite video, well with the channel gone its good buy network. There must be hundreds of channels gone so far.

Hi, what signal lights would you recommend for a dc layout? Thanks
@railandmodel
@railandmodel 11 месяцев назад
Depends on the track plan as to what type of signals will be needed to suit your track plan. The likes of Berko, Eckon, CR Signals, Train-Tech, or Absolute Aspects.

Good one Iain! Sadly, I won't be at Barrow Hill on May 2nd, but will be some other time this year... will keep you updated. Thankfully, I use Eckon's 4/3 aspect signals, harder to wire, but more detailed for about a 3rd of the price. Hornby's signals are way over priced. Pieces of plastic for around £20!!!!! RIP OFF!
