Catching up with your Sunday morning videos as I was in Spain golfing last weekend. It was hotter here when we got back! Very interesting to see those grain wagons and the problems you had at the points. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

Paisley is in Scotland, running a loco that was based in Scotland pulling Scottish whiskey wagons, with a Dundee signal box! All you needed Oscar was bagpipe music and a kilt!

Triang were very inventive with ways to get extra value from the chassis and bodies of wagons. So these grain wagons share the chassis with the TTA oil tankers and the bodies without the roof are seen as mineral bulk carriers. But the joy sometimes with Triang is seeing how they have repurposed a previous production item in a new guise.

I really miss this layout and watching the ZERO-1 controller working, but the new layout is cool with the even older stuff.

Thanks Oscar, love the whiskey wagons, I have a rake of the Lima version, but only one Triang, I think, the wheels on the 29 maybe from running, I'm fairly sure one of mine bought second hand, is similar, perhaps the plating wasn't so good, I don't use anything abrasive when wheel or track cleaning, I have a blue one and a green one, the green version runs better on Zero 1, no idea why !

Good afternoon Paul thanks for the information, the plating has definitely worn away on these wheels. I've noticed that some models also run a great deal better one zero one others even when they seem to have in seemingly identical condition. Take care. Oscar

Great video, thanks Oscar. My one grain wagon doesn't like Super 4 points so re-wheeling with something courser is a great idea. Lovely to see them running on your layout. My first train set was Trix and I drooled over their grain wagons in catalogues as a child, and sadly still do ! Great fun as always.

Hi Peter, glad you enjoyed the video. Lovely looking things these grain wagons, I've dug out the few Trix wagons I have for a later video in a few weeks time, they are a beautifully moulded wagon with some interesting names on the boards, sadly I don't have a complete set. Thanks again take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Very nice Class 29 despite it having seen a bit of action. As always some pleasing low level shots. Lovely grain wagons and good fix on the wheels. Wheels and track compatibility is a subject in itself. Take care, Gordon

Another great video Oscar, I could sense the frustration with the constant derailing but you got there at the end.

I should have watched the whole video before I asked you a few questions as i dont want to sound like a serial quesrion asking pest ,, haha. Maybe the derailing could be due to the s-curves factor that are quite tight as in going right into the points and a sharp left onto the main road. There could possibly coming off due to s curve and the opposing weight pulling the carriages off the track. I recently watched a charlie at chadwick model railway video and was only talking about this yesterday as it could happen in real,life when you get a thing called tail hook as in when the train is going into the main from a loop and the driver start to gain speed while the last of tne carriages are still going througn the points. Anyhoo last babble from me haha. Cheers from John in Australia.

Hello Oscar. Just to say that it's lovely to have your Sunday morning nostalgia treats to look forward to every week. There's nothing like reliving my childhood, though with your layout it's more a case of reliving it how I wish it had been. A couple of thoughts - why don't you treat yourself to a tripod so you don't have to do so much filming one-handed, and have you ever considered reviewing a modern model (Accurscale's Deltic for example), purely for comparison with "your" era? I'm not in your area, but I'm sure someone would loan something, because prices have gone up ever so slightly (this is called sarcasm for those not in the know!). Oh, and I love the whisky grain wagons, but I never had any because my parents didn't approve of them being part of a child's toy.

I do like the look of the class 29 Oscar. It has that first generation look, there were such varieties in those days. I noticed that it has the off set pivot in the non powered bogie but I did not see the chararistic lean. The wagons were very colourful. I suspect the flange spacing (back to back) is the derailing culprit. Hornby has never been very good at that. Regards, David.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 года назад
Good afternoon David, your right it doesn't appear to have a lean but I've have noticed in use over the weeks it does occasionally have a lean! I think Tri-ang Hornby definitely made some poor batches of wheels and or axels in the early 70s, the axles have a shoulder on them so there is only so much reduction in the back to back that can be made fixing them theoretically at 14 mm. I've had problems with a handful of other items from this era with the then newer finer a scale type wheels they began fitting at this period. They seem to carry this on into the first type of silver seal wheels introduced, the latter square section axle silver seal wheels seem to have lost about half a millimetre in their back to back, same goes for the black plastic wheels and axles or moulded as one they seem to drop back under 14 mm. There must've been quite a few issues at the time as many still had the older types track in use. All good fun though. Take care. Oscar

Was it the same wagon thaat was jumping off the track? Perhaps the wheels are out of gauge, ! Rather a clever desing they used, as shown by yourself in this video, as without the roof/top, it gave the hopper wagon, and the chassis I think was used on a few other wagons, the Kellogs van, and I think the wheel carrying wagon had the same chassies(or however you spell it?)

If you have been run as hard by the previous owner of that Class 29 you would have a sad face too. ;)

Hope you will expand further and get Phase 3 of zero1 . On zero 1 many motors seem to run at max 11 volts. That was my big disappointment of zero 1 as a boy that everything ran so slow !

Hi there Oscar,, I only just bought 1 of these 29 class bobo loco's just this week and it is in quite good condition too. I also got a triang grey double deck car carrier the one that lifts in the centre and both in really condition. I paid $90 aus $ delivered to my door which i think for the condition there both in was not too bad of a price. The both run well on the rails. The 29 class i have is a dark green one and has hornby on the botton of it though. It has the number D6110 and has a head code of 1Z90 or IZ90. It has a ringfield motor in it and seems to be noisy as they normally are but i have got some ringfield motors here that are as quiet as a mouse ,, any idea why they get so noisy ,, im tipping the meshing gears and also in a hollow body as they are no where near as noisy when you run the motor by itself without all the cogs on it. 1 more thing i need to know is and I have asked this before on another site but i am confused as to why the british trains do not put the engine numbers on them all and seem to sometimes have different numbers as from the class they are and the numbers on the sides are differnet as I have seen some of the 37 class seems to have the 37*** on them. Sorry for all the questions but why do the british locos steam and early diesels have no headlights. I mean how do the drivers see of a night time or do they just drive blind of a night time and hope they dont hit anything. Us here in Australia all have headlights except for some of the early syndney suburban trains (red rattlers and early stainless steel,doublemdeck cars) but all of them have them now. I think its a good idea to have a headlights so you can see where you are going ,, haha Anyhoo keep up the good work and gr8 videos m8. Cheers from John in Australia

Hi John thanks again, great to hear you've got some more great items for your collection. I have to admit understanding very little about locomotive numbing part from basic class numbers, I believe the system has been revised over the years since the development of railways , light on locomotives is an interesting subject I believe it's been approached differently in different parts of the planet as the railways developed. The links below may provide some interesting reading. Take care. Oscar www.railfaneurope.net/misc/gbnum.html en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_lights

Collective cringed as the Loco was prized out by the buffer? More so with the preclean "running" - even the dog down the road! Bring back finger nails down the blackboard!? More important things? - Lunch! "Lunch is for wimps!"🤣 I remember Drooling at the thought of "computer" control back in the day, Not a DCC Fan, by comparison Zero 1 really makes hard work of it - had to start somewhere! 👍👍

Hi Oscar Nice rake of grain wagons do like them, the diesel does run better with zero one more controllerble, must put a bit of resistance over motor by the looks of it. Does this mean you are going to put zero one in all you rolling stock. Regards paul osman

Hi Paul thanks again for taking the time to watch, it's very unlikely I'm going to convert more than a hand full locomotives over to Zero 1, just a limited trial to see how it all runs, the XO motors don't seem very happy at all with the Zero 1 system. Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar. I have to say that your layout from 4 years ago featuring the Southern Suburban EMU was far far superior to your modern layout of today. The shots of the EMU coasting through all those overhead cables along with the station and surrounding erections etc. are something that is lost on today's layout. It's a shame really that the outmoded ZERO 1 setup has taken away some of that scenery and has, to a degree, downgraded the layout to its present setup. 'If it's not broke, don't fix it' should have been your motto back then. A shame really! Paul.
