not based on looks? Albert was quite attractive when young. tall, lean, and looked good in uniform. Victoria was VERY physically attracted to him. she talked about that in her diaries.
but, it was Victoria's choice. that's where this relationship was very different from other royal marriages. though a prude, they seem to have had an appreciation for beauty and its own sensuality. one touching note of their marriage was Albert's "secret" portrait of Victoria. very beautiful.
That is because, it is suspected that Albert had aspbergers syndrome. So while he was imaginative creative and a very caring person he would have had had a hard time communicating with people. People with aspbergers are also amazing lovers, hence the nine children.
I know what you mean, I'm a lover of History myself but HH makes things absurd so that you remember it! It's used as a revision tool a lot, I've studied History right up to A Level and I still find these vids useful. ^^ I don't think they mean to mock in a bad way.
Now that's real love, indeed. You find someone you truly love (not based upon looks, mind you), propose to him, have 9 kids with him and mourn his death the rest of your life after. Good LORD! This lady's a hero!
Awww, that's beautiful! Now a days, if someone tried making a secret portrait of someone they probably wouldn't be so obliging. You wouldn't happen to know if the portrait was before or after their union?
What kinda sad is the fact that her mother actually wrote to Albert and told him to come around Victoria because she was trying to control Victoria through him if she could get him as her husband but they actually loved each other which defeated Victoria’s mothers purpose to rule through Victoria.
And it was her Mother’s attitude that made Victoria’s uncle King William IV despised her mother so much. To the extent that as his heath slowly worsened by the will of his hatred alone, he managed to out live Queen Victoria’s mother stated that he out lived the stubborn bitch.
William died in 1837. Victoria’s mother died in 1861. William actually said he wouldn’t die until Victoria turned eighteen, because then she could rule of her own without her mother influencing government, which he did manage to do.
Yep, Albert's father Ernest was the brother of Victoria's mother (also called Victoria) :) They had a mutual uncle, King Leopold of the Belgians, who helped engineer the match.
It's not all that romantic, well, in a way it is. But her and Al got into a lot of fights. She actually didn't fancy her kids very much and thought them disgusting when they were babies. She hated having them apparently, but loved sexy time with Al. Victoria was very clingy and loving to her husband and only wanted to spend time with him, not really the kids. Reading books and watching documentries about Queen Victoria really reminded me not to romanticize history, but I love it nonetheless.
@MarinaMaxwellYuy 9! Victoria hated children and pregnancy, but back then it was only not having sex.(to prevent further pregnancies) and the natural contraception that comes from breast feeding(which Victoria hated and called her daughters cows when they did it) that enabled soo many kids.
i think just the fact they had nine children showed there was a good deal of physical attraction in their relationship. it was good that Albert had a brain as well as looks. otherwise, she might have been much worse off.
Yeah lol... Back then royalty could only married royalty. Queen Vic's mom was Albert's Aunt!!! Making them first cousins. The current queen of the UK also married her cousin btw
it was a portrait Albert had painted by Franz Xaver Winterhalter of Victoria, which he kept in his private bedroom. it was only made "public" in the 70s. if you google "Victoria's secret portrait" in google images, you'll see it.
If Victoria thought she could have gotten away with it "politically" she might have considered marrying Brown. I think the reason they were such close friends is because, like Albert, Brown had No fear of telling Victoria what was what! Who else was around brave enough to tell her "no" to something?! :-)
Well, it is the general rule of monarchies, King Consorts are quite rare. The reason Anne was the first English queen to have a Prince Consort was because Mary I insisted on making her husband a King, and Mary II was given the crown jointly with William III. So it's less that Anne brought it in, more that she was the first to go along with how it was supposed to go.
XD Yeah, love does things to people. I'm just basing my assessment off of what I've watched in the flick (presuming it as truth). Though, I don't see what being a little frisky has to do with anything. If you're talking about THAT kind of physical attraction, well... they didn't necessarily discover each other in that manner until after they where hooked, if you catch my drift.
It's a comedy show guys, their make things funner and it's not like the cast and the writers really think that had you seen the song their made for them?
