When people question the integrity and impartiality of civil servants it is the biggest slap in the face you can imagine. In my time in the civil service I have been part of implementing policies that have reassessed public servants' pensions, knowing it would mean civil servants, teachers, doctors, nurses and others seeing their pensions reduced. I've also implemented modernisation and streamlining that I knew would see some of my colleagues being made redundant. That's not because I didn't care or even agreed with them, but because it was my job to implement those policies, regardless of personal feelings, in the name of 'efficiencies' and savings to the Treasury. I was by no means a rarity in the civil service; people who lacked that impartiality didn't last long in the job. Even the union leaders that some would brand 'militant left-wing' at their core wanted to improve the civil service to enable us to serve the public better. I wouldn't expect anyone in the private sector to understand that.

It does indeed appear as if education has failed if you still care so much about spelling mistakes. Assuming that spelling is an indicator of academic intelligence or achievement, which may at best be I'll informed and at worst be discriminatory, to simply write off an opinion based on this is a staggering display of privilege and snobbery. Besides which, it's widely recognised that academic intelligence is far from the only (or indeed most important) form of intelligence. For my employees I couldn't care less about their academic achievement - it's far more important that they demonstrate high levels of emotional and spacial intelligence. These are highly paid and highly specialised people, and several of them have no formal qualifications. If the education system has failed, it is in its continued overreliance on dated an largely irrelevant metrics such as spelling.

In the Dec 2019 election the tories only got 14 million votes out of 48 million or more electorate, they only got 44% of the actual votes and yet they have a massive majority now to basically do whatever they want. So thanks to a minority who voted for the con party and brexshit, we are all suffering now. I've never voted for the con party in my entire life and I'm English. Bea is one of many, many solid examples of the intelligent, objective professionalism which civil servants have brought to the job of enabling sane and efficient government for decades. Bless her. Unfortunately our government is neither sane nor efficient, and they are constantly lashing out to find targets to blame and demonise for their own absolute corruption, ineptitude and lack of humanity. Whether it's people in small boats, those who rely on food banks to survive, nurses and doctors, railway workers, people who have an 'anti-maths mindset' and now civil servants. It's our fault, all our fault, and never, ever theirs. Remember the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller - First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me That's almost precisely the state of our nation now. A person can make a citizens arrest quite legally. It needs the whole country to write to the director of public prosecutions and demand that MI5 or some other similar arm of the security services conduct an in depth investigation into the conduct of the Tory party. Suella Braverman definitely broke ministerial code by sending those confidential emails via her personal account, but there must be hundreds of breaches by these charlatans. Take for instance Boris Johnson slipping away from his security men to spend time with the son of a prominent KGB colonel at his Italian castle then bestowing Evgeny Lebedev with a knighthood. Then BREXIT, the biggest crime against the country. The list goes on ad nauseum. Scandal after scandal. Bottom line this govt have F****d the country. It's bad enough they have left scorched earth for labour or whoever wins the next election but it's the country as a whole that will suffer not just whoever takes over. The Tories know they are dead in the water so they are doing as much damage as possible. They don't want to get back in because they will only inherit the s**t they have left

The UK's problem is that its electoral system discourages voters from exercising that right, first by enabling an MP to be elected with less than an absolute majority of votes cast and second by requiring those voters to prove their identity after having done so already when registering to vote. An alternative government has to remedy these defects, else what has happened could happen again. When we could have stopped it.
