As a Taiwanese, I really appericated to see some dev put all their effort to recreating the most accurate scenario of our country's traffic situations.

The car AI is surprisingly good. I liked how some would pincer attack you rather then just all go in a big clump together. I also liked how the cars had radios and music playing. It organically gives background music while also acting as a sound cue to let you know where or how close some cars are. Over all this was a well done game.

Yeah, this game's strong suit is the gameplay. The cars move around in ways that make sense and, if you cross a barrier, you can see them reroute themselves to go around it. It's really cool to see

I like the idea that the horror comes from constantly being on edge along with the sense of constant danger it's a good way to use those to make something scary without having to use traditional methods to achieve the same

This is basically walking at night right when all the people at bars get kicked out.

The idea of running from cars is silly, but somehow when you're being chased by one my heart begins to race like I'm gonna get run over in real life. I love this game, if you think about it, being chased by cars is horrifying.

I completely agree with Manly's thoughts on the story. It's not bad or anything, but you're not gonna sell this game to someone off of it; you're gonna tell them it's a horror game where you dodge cars trying to get you, and that gameplay is shockingly tense. This full game is just more of demo which is exactly what I wanted.

i like that that your first encounter with the police car it was under human control, and was trying to defend you, it got partially wrecked by the dump truck and the officer was killed, and then the flaming wreck came to life and chased you around.

Being run over is a fear implanted in us at a very young age, thats why this works very well. I would love to see more vehicles in the future. Like the tanks near the beginning could could be a slow moving ranged enemy that makes you constantly move, or get blown up. Motorcycles could be very fragile swarming enemies that tip over easily. Monster trucks could be a boss. Trucks with explosive barrels that blow up on impact. A car carrier trailer could release cars on impact. Lots of design space here 😄

12:03 Holy shit, there was probably someone in that car. That is so terrifying, imagine not only being one of the persons having to run for their lives due to killer cars, but also being the one inside the car, confused and scared about your car just going batshit crazy.

Why is such a simple concept so good? I'd never guess that simple ol' cars chasing us would make for a decent little horror game.

Growing up 2 of my favorite thrillers were Christine and Maximum Overdrive. Seeing this game in a sense encapsulate the same feeling of terror as you're running from (supposedly) possessed vehicles trying to kill you, it gives me a sense of nostalgia. Maybe we'll see an actual Christine game of similar structure in the future?

I'm not kidding, I used to have nightmares of stuff like this when I was a little kid. When you first started getting chased down, it brought me back to those horrifying nightmares. This might be one of the most unsettling horror games I've ever seen. Incredible

I really like the environment. Especially the alleyway in-between the buildings getting narrow, the deeper you go into the dark abyss. Very reminiscent of the PS3 game, The Condemned.

I think the coolest part about this game was how some cars had odd quirks you'd see in your day-to-day; such as that SUV with the logs sticking out from it's window.

This reminds me to the old movie titled Maximum Overdrive (1986) which were based on the short story "Trucks" made by Stephen King, which first published in the June 1973 issue of Cavalier magazine (also collected in King's 1978 Night Shift collection). It was about the day after a rogue comet which hides the presence of a UFO passes by, trucks and other machines come alive and begin killing humans.

This game gives me the whole “your honor, Free. Bird was playing” vibe

Pretty unique concept considering that outside of driving games, cars are just static props if they appear.

Dang this might be one of my most favorite horror games you’ve done. Like it’s just such a good idea and it was executed perfectly. I love how you cant outrun the cars but instead have to outsmart them and use their cumbersome proportions against them. And the music some cars play is the cherry on top. Hall of the mountian king was too fitting for this.

Few people know the film with Emilio Estevez about possessed machines that killed everyone "Maximum Overdrive" I think the developer was inspired by this idea

It's funny how simple this game is on paper yet how effective it is: some of us pass by so many cars a day they become passive scenery. However, all it'd take is a random one to swerve at the last second and so much can go wrong: how could you expect it? Also I love how Manly doesn't scream and howl and act out, he makes these games a soothing part of my day with his collected demeanor and often meaningful insight. (SPOILERS) Here's the story as best as can I can determine: we are a doctor at a hospital where a girl named Andrea was treated, likely for cancer or another terminal illness that also killed her mother. When it becomes clear that she does not have long to live, she's discharged home, but we also perform some outpatient care to try and keep her comfortable as she gets ready to pass away. Andrea's father, Frank, a violent and unstable man following his wife's death, sees that we bonded with Andrea during her stay and, out of desperation, he kidnaps us and holds us captive in his basement, threatening to kill Jose (either our husband, boyfriend, or close friend) and our family if we don't treat his daughter. Andrea, however, while kept alive by the medicine Frank is providing, is not getting better but instead is suffering so much she convinced us to kill her before Frank can stop us and we escape. Sometime later, after we return to a normal life, a completely deranged Frank ambushes and kidnaps us, intending to act on his threat. However, on the way to also kidnap Jose so he can finish us both off, he spins out on the ice and snow and crashes. We survive, but to protect our family we either find and kill Frank or go to the police. Naturally the car segments are probably hallucinations or delusions caused by head trauma from Frank's crash, related to our pursuit of Frank or his pursuit of us, depending on your perspective. His gunshots that we hear are probably actually directed at us, loud enough to bleed into the delusions. Edit: Thinking on it, there's probably a decent amount saying this is a paranormal or afterlife experience as well. The crash may well have killed both Frank and the protagonist, dragging them into this dark and hostile world where the spirits take the form of careening vehicles to hunt them as punishment, Frank for his violent ways and us for having killed Andrea. Frank tries to fight back with his gun but runs out of bullets and ultimately gets cornered, while we find a way to evade the spirits and escape, likely reviving near the car wreck site.

This is surprisingly good horror. The story is disheveled but the gameplay and setting/levels/environment were incredibly effective. I hope you've learned your lesson about taunting possessed homicidal motor vehicles...

The fucked up bit early on with the car 'screaming' and then going silent when it hits the barrier-it was very muffled screaming, leading me to think some poor person was inside the car unable to control it, before being either killed or knocked unconscious with the impact

I cant help but feel a nervousness seeing real life car barriers as the safe zones in this game, and how much of architecture in our own lives are based around praying we dont get hit by tons of metal when just walking down the street. cars really are the dominant species on the planet...

Anyone remember the game Carmageddon? The way the cars move and sound reminds me so much of it! Carmageddon was a “vehicular combat” racing game. It’s a street race, but it’s open world and all the drivers are also trying to damage and total each others cars. Last car standing wins (or you can finish the race first, but that’s not as fun). I loved that game growing up and I think it holds up pretty well, especially the sequels!

I think the reason cars make for such a surprisingly good horror game mechanic is because it makes it possible for the threat to be significantly faster than you, which usually doesn't work mechanically. In most horror games, the thing chasing you has to be slow because otherwise it would be impossible to escape. The best they can do is to try to put obstacles in your way and make you think carefully about escape routes or else you get cornered. But with cars, they are naturally way faster than you, but their poor maneuverability, their inability to turn in place, and the fact that they have to be moving fast to kill you makes them escapable. It is an entirely unique twist on the typical 'being chased by a thing trying to kill you' element of horror.

I remember seeing the demo from someone else and the AI was quite basic but still the game concept was nice. I wouldn't have imagined it would get this much better! I'm seriously impressed.

Now we need one with vacuum cleaners! (I recommend using real vacuum models AND the correct sound it makes irl)

Interesting take on the 'helpless horror' type of game-normally your defense is ultimately that you're either smarter or faster-but here, it's that you're more agile. Cars have a momentum and a turn radius to them that you don't.

This game makes me think of the episode "Attack of the Autobots" from Generation 1's "Transformers" cartoon. Megatron infiltrated the base of the Autobots and infected their recharging chamber pods with a personality destabilizer that turned those in the pods evil, albeit temporarily. It was a good episode in an overall awesome series, and it leaves me to wonder if that episode somewhat inspired this idea. Either way, I like it!

Super tense game. To me it’s like having an actual nightmare where you’re being chased by something and nothing makes sense but in the context of the nightmare it’s perfectly logical.

_Before you embark on a journey of revenge..._ Buy a truck. I loved the demo and I love the full game. The tense atmosphere, the weaving of small story points here and there really made this sad and edge-of-seat horror. Your evasion of the cars and trucks was super!! We almost didn't need the story because the chases were so well done, but there was a fairly tragic story underneath. *Spoilers follow with my interpretation of the story* You are the nurse who was taking care of Frank's daughter Andrea in the hospital. The girl liked you and wanted you to visit her. So Frank kidnapped you to take care of her at home under threat of harm to your family.. The note was shown briefly (~14 minutes): _"Understand I had no choice. Andrea already lost her mother and now she has to fight the same disease. She can't do it on her own. You know how to take care of her and she likes you. I have to keep working so I can get her medication. I know you will do the right thing. If not, then Jose and your family will pay for it."_ _-Frank_ I'm not sure if Andrea killed herself but I think you did and then tried to run. Frank chases and then hits you with the car maybe. , leaving you with a concussion so all of this seems like a dream. But you're worried about your own child, Jose. And you either hear the ice cream truck for example because of your own child, or that is Frank's memory of his daughter. In one ending, you wind up killing Frank to save your own life and in the other, the police are able to successfully intervene. But as I said before - even without the story - this was a really cool game.

This has insane potential for VR. Don’t think it gives me too much of a rush through a monitor but this as a vr horror game would be nerve racking

The cars being invincible purely as necessity for gameplay does nothing to cut the legitimate, primal horror this game evokes. Having nothing direct to fight back with save your ability to dodge and weave, listen and avoid, it so naturally draws your whole focus into it, which makes the inevitable suddenness of that one car you didn't notice catching up so shocking. And all without anything one could call a jumpscare in good conscience.

This is the one game that's been able to consistently make me jump. I'm not normally freaked out by the idea of getting hot but the tension of being chased and then ultimately ran over literally hits me so hard. Even when it narrowly missed I still jump. So good job game! You are very effective horror that uses jumpscares in a way that I don't find annoying!

This game helped me discover that I am way more scared of cars than I thought I was My heart races when I hear the cars approach, every time. The songs the cars play range from creepy to absolutely panic-inducing, and the thought that the cars are playing songs to mess with you while they hunt you down gives me CHILLS The audio design is so good

Exciting! Goes to show that you can create engaging gameplay just by taking a very simple, common concept (getting chased by a monster) and doing a twist on it (the monster's movement is momentum-based and you can dodge it). Now if only we could stop horror protagonists from compulsively eating batteries.
