Horror Movies That Audiences Couldn't Sit Through

Horror can scare us in all kinds of ways, from a subtly haunting ghost story to an unhinged tale of human depravity. However, some films have just been too depraved, making it quite hard for audience members to sit through them. Even esteemed critics like Roger Ebert have walked out of some of these horror movies, due to their depictions of everything from cannibalism to the torture of children.
Some of these flicks have become cult classics among the most dedicated of horror fans, while others are near-universally disliked, so let’s take a look at some horror movies that audiences just couldn’t sit through.

Well,the question remains: if the movie is too much gory to watch, does it mean that the purpose of the movie was accomplished...it's called horror anyway,right?

@noneofyourbusiness4294
@noneofyourbusiness4294 6 лет назад
kirby march Barcena horror doesn't need gore. I'd always sort gory movies without barely any horror atmosphere more in a thriller or even action subgenre. Actual horror plays with your fears, builds up atmosphere, and gets you at some point, without needing jumpscares or gore. I mean, would you put the saw movies into the horror genre? Personally I wouldn't. Neither the first, nor any of the others, it's just contraptions which result in either death or survival, those few scenes of the abductions, that are poorly made, and the gore don't make it scary

@LucasSSP
@LucasSSP 6 лет назад
depends on what you consider horror. to me horror is when a movie assimilates something sensorial (an image, sound, texture, idea of taste or touch, etc) to something traumatic or horrifying and then that sensorial thing gets stuck in your head and you just keep revisiting it. so Caligula could be a horror film, in that sense.

@LucasSSP

adrenacrumb now you are just saying that. To me putting horror in the limited boundary of moralist supernatural/psycho scenario is silly as hell. Humanity can and is horrible and need not the devil or "oh look at me I am a crazy person" excuse to do so. Sensorial shit that gets stuck in your mind guided by a traumatizing or horrifying experience would be a large genre? Shit son.

The older I get, the more I'm turn towards more philosophical and psychological horror than the standard blood and gore. Like, the best examples I can give aren't actually movie but games: Silent Hill 2 and Spec Ops: the Line. That or Cosmic Horror. Love that stuff but it's so rare to find.

Great list, I’ll soon check out the ones I’ve not seen yet. I’d add the Indy New Zealand movie “Bad Taste” to the list, while there were only about 20 of us in the cinema there’s one scene which literally had half the cinema walk out, most of them gagging and running for the bathrooms. It was a great laugh

The scene from "The hills have eyes 2", (I think I have the name correct) was playing where I worked and I happened to unfortunately catch some of the defilement by the grotesque repugnance of a defenseless woman. Particularly in Martyrs but I happened to have 3rd degree burns skin grafts so landmark skin all off the body scene was ultra hard but was such landmark film I'd still watch it but the gore factor wasn't half as bad as the psychological pain all these characters suffered. The update version of The Hills have eyes, and part 2 we're good horror flicks. Also Baskin was pretty trippy too. I thought it was pretty interesting to watch, the gore was pretty intense, and the ending was intense too.

The most savage film i have ever watched was Martyrs (2008). A Serbian film, the hills have eyes, Wolf Creek, Bone Tomahawk, the Purge, Hostel 1, Cold Prey, Saw, the Cube and some others were also savage.

That was NOT the premise of Martyrs. I've seen Martyrs at least a dozen times. It's one of my favorite horror films to date. The story of a young woman, Lucie, that seeks revenge on the family that tortured her as a child, with the help of her only friend Anna, in order to escape the demon that's tormented her since her abduction. The story goes much deeper than that, but not much more can be told without spoiling it. It's a brilliant film, and one of incredibly few French films with strong female heroine.

Hush. a very very good horror thriller. it’s also recent (2016) and on Netflix. have recommended it to everyone and i have not seen anyone not like it! Also, another nice Netflix one i saw lately was “The Den” it’s pretty creepy. have you looking over your shoulder. And Kristy was very original dark slasher film that did the genre justice all on Netflix and are all very good films!

No, don't waste your time with Lake Mungo. I just finished watching it based on that same comment and it only had one spook! I kid you not. It was pretty boring. Also IT was not that great either. Don't watch Martyrs it is just kind of gross with bad story line and bad voice over because it is a crappy foreign film.

CursedMonkey I had rented it decades ago on VHS but I can't remember much about it beyond the felatio scene in the catacombs with a transsexual and the decapitation machine with Caligula's ex-friend being buried up to his neck in dirt and Caligula turning either the Roman Senate or his own palace into a whorehouse. And Malcolm McDowell and Peter O' Toole giving balls to the walls performances in that movie. God what an insane brainf**k that movie was. And I think that film was produced by either Larry Flint or Hugh Hefner?! I remember reading one of them had a hand in that movie. I forget which, probably Flint I'm guessing, because I don't think Hef would have touched that movie with a 20 foot pole.

I loved the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes"!!! I don't know if anyone else will think this is interesting, but the fight scene between the dweeby guy and the bad guy was the same fight sequence, but with the corkscrew replaced with a screwdriver of the fight in "True Romance" between Patricia Arquette and James Gandolfini. Watch them both and you'll see!
