I'm still amazed that Susan Hill is a contemporary author, she nailed the gothic subgenre perfectly. I would love to see Grady Hendrix tackle creepy kids with a sequel to Horrorstor.

OMG yes, the creepy baby store would make such an epic setting. And I completely agree about Susan Hill, That book would sit neatly amongst Frankenstein and Carmilla etc

Hey Marie! Great to watch another awesome video! I've seen the the book The Woman in Black countless of times at my local bookstore. Glad you enjoyed it, I'll add it on my list for my next book soon.

I loved it!! I genuinely adore the slow burning dread that traditional gothic horror does so perfectly

It's so good to see a wrap up from you Marie- I always enjoy your content. I also enjoyed Clown in a cornfield and I'm hoping to get to Clown in a cornfield 2 in October for Halloween. The woman in black was an enjoyable book back when I read it- a nice, slow burn. I'm so far up to reading 86 books for the year which is ok for me as my goal is 100.

I'm immediately going to check out A Woman in Black. A Clown in a Cornfield movie sounds fab! Geez, these all sound good. Love getting a Marie notification. :)

Really great reading month! I love that copy of The Woman in Black too - it is gorgeous :) Sundial was one I was very interested to hear you talk about as I can see it being hit or miss with some people but I agree, Last House on Needless Street hit harder. Liked them both a lot though!

I did really enjoy it but it just didn't have the same impact for me. Last House was so suspenseful whereas Sundial was a lot slower paced so it just didn't pack the same punch.

Adam Cesare is pretty cool, I've met him before. very energetic dude lol. my suggestions would be: the Siren and the Spector by Jonathan Janz, Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi, a Tightening Noose by B.K Berrell, Riapoke by Bryan Nowak and anything by B.L Blankenship, He's such a nice guy.. odd but cool lol.

Fellow Northen Irish book lover! 😊Recently bought the Leatherbound Canterbury Classics, classic tales of horror! Beautiful book with a lot of good horror stories. Gothic Horror stories are the best. Recently read The turn of the Screw and absolutely loved It.

I've wanted to read The Woman in Black for a long time now. I've seen the film a few times and liked it, I've heard that the book is different, and I've heard a lot of people have voiced disappointment over the book because it's slow, but your view on it gives me a bit more faith in it. Maybe I'll finally crack it open later this year.

Traditional gothic horror is never fast paced but personally that's why I love it. No need for constant action, it's more of a slow burning constant walk towards dread lol way more unnerving in my opinion. It is different from the movie but I do think the film did a good job

That film scared me too, I cannot believe it is a 12A...like, who is taking a child to that? lol I love how the fact that there is no nudity or swearing it is deemed more family friendly....it is horrifying lol

Time is fleeting these days but I am going to make a conscious effort to try to post more as well as pick up a novel I half wrote and abandoned when my marriage split...going to get it finished and edited and see if any publishers would be interested.
