A statement from director Laura Moss about the inspiration behind FRY DAY: "I love horror, although not all horror loves me back. As a teenager I was attracted to movies depicting women as gristle for a slasher’s blade. I could face my own mortality from the safety of my living room. The monsters I encounter as an adult are more subtle, They come in forms that are harder to recognize. For me, Fry Day is about the moment when a young girl becomes aware that evil is not as black and white as it seems; how it is easier for the more mundane monsters to stay hidden when everyone is pointing at an obvious one."

@warlock040269 Bundy was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison in Raiford, Florida on January 24, 1989. (Reagan was in the the White House inflation was high if I remember correctly) 3 Chicken Fries @ soda 4.00 a piece believable ) anyhow I enjoyed the short.i remember when Bundy was killing and than caught also his execution. 89 was a busy year in time /history.

Honestly, this feels less like a short film and more like the beginning of a feature film. This was really well done and even the acting surprised me. I'd definitely pay to see a feature from this.

I think it's about the mundanity of evil. Bundy was the obvious evil but people are evil in so many ways every day. Just like Bundy, the guy was charming, clever and fairly handsome. All the way through the film he was nothing but polite and pleasant to the girl, right up to the point he ultimately betrayed her. The girl was warned by the older woman that she was going to be eaten alive, and she was, though not in the literal sense. She was stripped to the bone as she had everything taken from her, including her innocence.

Lauryn, a slightly naive young girl, gets taken for a ride by a seemingly harmless and sweet classmate that takes a sudden turn for the worse. The horror of this movie is subtle, no blood guts and gore, just trust misplaced and abused. I think i identify with the moment of realization when he starts to rob her, how her heart must have sunk into her stomach, and the obvious fear that followed as to how far things would go... I didnt know myself, there was a moment there where i thought they might rape her too. The movie ends with her climbing into a strange car, and who knows what happens to her then?

she was pretty cool. reminds me of my late (great) grandma who i was not at all related too. she used to call me little man and she was an absolute bitch to everyone but when she came to town and visited my mom at her work, she told everyone that was her granddaughter. she was a genuine, sweet person, she was just old, cranky, and had a strange way of showing love. i can’t remember how old she was when she passed but she was definitely up there. her actual daughter who we knew her from was months away from retiring so she must’ve been 80 at the least.

This was really good. Ted Bundy is the obvious Evil. But, evil can come in many forms. The girl seemed uneasy throughout the ride and while getting food. I myself have been in situations like this, where I felt uneasy ,but, I kept telling myself I was just overreacting.. Evil can look very Normal. The guy at the end who offered her a ride, he might of been evil as well.

I love how realistic this is. It's completely understated, the acting is realistic rather than being thoroughly over-acted like most things are these days, and the entire film is filled with a sense of dread... rather than having one climax. And, rather than having one climax, it has several cringe-y moments that can serve as life-lessons.

As a woman growing up during "the sexual revolution", I found that nearly every woman loses her innocence at the hands of a monster; we just do not recognize the monster until it is too late. Sometimes, we invite them into our homes, our cars, our hearts..and, then, when the time is right,..the monster emerges killing our hopes, leaving only scars and wreckage. Monsters are women, too..I lost a good friend to a monster..the monster of mental illness; it enveloped her like an old friend and turned her into a raving beast...

as a woman who's gone through some truly wild shit from other women, including one i dated, i am pretty comfortable saying there is no category of human that does not contain a significant number of people who become monsters in all sorts of ways and for all sorts of reasons. i don't think anyone escapes from monsters, though, and there is no such thing as a human being who retains innocence in any way shape or form. cruelty and tragedy are not anomalous, they are the norm for the human species. not saying we should throw in the towel on trying to make society better, but i think we all know deep down that we're fighting that battle because someone should, not because we think it's actually possible to win.

thats what I thought as well..she seems like a sheep just believes anyone and anything...pitty the old lady tried to warn her, there were many red flags and she could've stayed that the resurant wait for the police or phone her parents. When your gut tells you something is wrong, you get the hell out of there especially when taking a ride late at night with three strange dudes. Honestly if this movie was real, its very likely worse things could've happened with those 3 guys near the barn and we all know what

At the point she was offered a ride in the end, she has two options: walk around the middle of nowhere and die or take the ride and possibly die or possibly make it back to civilization. It was a choice of possible death vs certain death. Then again, she could ask for leverage before taking a ride. A lighter, a weapon, a wallet, etc. that she'd keep and make threats with if he tried anything funny.

In reality, knowing my personal history, I'd probably end up dying in a desert before getting into a car with anyone, even if they looked trustworthy. I'm just saying it seemed like death for her was inevitable at that point. Nah, I know how the world works, I just don't value my life enough. It's a game. You either win or you lose. She was stranded and had the option to keep walking to God knows where or climb in a truck with a stranger. The only way to be smart and get into the truck is if she had leverage and the only way to keep walking and not take the offer is if she knew where she was going. Unless she's extremely smart (which she wasn't), she would die no matter what she did. Obviously she couldn't fight the three guys. That's a no brainier. She lost the game. Checkmate.

i'm very confident that charming, murderous scumbags of all sorts have existed as long as humanity and especially society have. what's different in modern days is how frequently we're able to hear about it and get accurate info. even pre-internet, a culture where people actually have access to a lot of information and relatively quick methods of communication/travel (phones, cars, planes, newspapers and being able to read is the norm instead of the exception) is going to become aware of a whole lot more crimes.

This film made me so furious! I don't know why those guys were so unbelievably cruel to that poor girl. They use her to get food for them, then they just ditch her in a dark area near a barn and steal all the money she had made that day from the picture she took. She thought when they invited her out, they were actually being decent and kind, NOT! She wasn't looking for any trouble and was such a sweet girl. She was at the Ted Bundy execution outside making money off of taking pictures of people, and that little twerp comes along and just starts acting all nice to her. People like that should be punished for their actions and for treating people like they are a rug to just wipe their feet on! Now I'm really freaking out from the last scene, like we don't even know if she made it home ok. It was sad and infuriating at the same time, but she was one hell of an actress. This is a powerful story and a warning sign for young girls to watch out, be extra careful and don't trust everyone you meet. Poor girl 😥

I think this is more about how we don't really believe in monsters until we encounter them face-to-face, and are affected by them. Even though the girl looked like Bundy's MO, she wasn't worried that she'd be hurt. But after she was a victim she was.

My sister was in the Phi Mu sorority at FSU the same night Bundy killed the women in the Chi Omega house. This film is so haunting for many reasons. Fantastic portrayals all around...Elizabeth Ashley (Granny) was fantastic. Kudos to all involved. Dark, cerebral, realistic to the core. Left me feeling a little sick to my stomach. Incredibly well done.

I hate that it happened to her... cuz.. I think most of us kinda figured what we ASSUME happens when she gets in that pick-up. And she seemed so sweet and naive. But I think she learned the hard way, well actually, through SEVERAL hard ways, that evil comes from all directions, and all too often, you dont see it coming. First, she trusted a "friend", more of an acquaintance really, from school. She was crushing a little.. he played her... then robbed her and left her. Then the guy who offered her a ride. Now is where WE decide what happens to her next. And I am afraid I have a very sick imagination, because, in my story, she never made it home. There are Ted Bundys everywhere! Bundy was a perfect example of "You dont have to look evil to be evil".... GREAT JOB ALTER! This one goes along perfectly with ALTERed perceptions! 😉✌

These stories are why it's so hard to trust anybody--even the seemingly well-intentioned. At least these stories teach us to always be on guard and careful especially around people we don't know very well--even if they treat us nice (initially)

Good movie. I was once that girl. But yeah, there are some evil people in this world that pretend to be your good people and they are not. They have different motives. First red flag was that guy asking about how much money she makes, seems innocent enough, but that is what motivated him to ask her to go with him.

Ted Bundy didn't trick them with his looks. He'd just pretend to be helpless and ask for help. Those victims were kind and wanted to help a person in need.

Considering the set up and the label as horror movie, the girl got off so easy it almost feels like a cop out on the creator's behalf. It still works as a horror movie though because of the good acting and the confrontation is intense because we can feel her fear and we expect much worse things to happen. Not that the experience wasn't damaging. She won't trust any stranger again anytime soon.

Taking advantage of her, what a bunch of jerks. I do see though that the driver is the leading force of making the 2 other guys do what he asks them to do. I don't know how I would be able to stay there till it got light but what other choices did she have. That is scary shit. I don't think the driver in the end was anyone bad either.

This kind of remonded me of another ALTER short, 'Birdie', in that there aren't any scares, and the horror comes purely from the increasingly uncomfortable vibes you get while watching it. This was yet another film that I wasn't able to fully appreciate until I saw ALTER's pinned comment with a statement by the director. I love that they do that, it adds so much more depth to these short stories to hear straight from the director what they had been going for, and why, especially when it isn't 100% clear from watching.

Wow! Just goes to show how people can seem like they’re nice &+ friendly then turn out not to be what they seem. I love this. It’s simple &+ something that could easily happen to anyone; it’s scary in that sense. I also want to know what happened to her. I want to see her get her revenge. This was an awesome short tho ! Charging $2 for a polaroid picture in 1978, she's a true monster. Thank goodness, those nice boys came along and eased her burden of ill gotten gains. Though I think they should have kept the camera, and removed the temptation to swindle more hard working folks out of their hard earned money.

Wow... this was a different type of horror. Her naivety is due to the fact that she’s only sixteen, and has a poor sense of judgement. The guy that was perceived as charming is the seed that was planted that would later manifest into paranoia in the end for her. The guys, the truck, the Bundy execution, the subtle background info of female victims, and the betrayal all made for a good ending; because with what she just experienced made it all the more difficult for her to just hop into a truck with a stranger. Makes it even all the more ominous that the audience doesn’t know who the driver is and that he saw the Ted mask on her back as well. I don’t know... it was a bit unsettling; great atmosphere though.

So...let me get this right. She’s at an execution taking pictures, meets up with a school buddy, gets into a car with him and his unknown friends, gets taken to an old farm, gets robbed? Left for dead? Starts walking back to civilisation and almost gets into another stranger’s car? What a dumbass let-down. What a stupid ending. 0 out of 10 for this one, ALTER.

That was brilliant and totally involving, like the characters were real, bravo Laura Moss. Lord I hope the guy in the truck is a good guy, I want Lauryn to be OK but there was great ambiguity with her facial expressions at the end. Well played by the director that I certainly don't want her to get eaten alive out there but fear she might. This needs to be expanded into a full on film with the same cast.
