Everyone's talking about the part when the guy is revealed, but honestly the perspective when the clerk is holding the door closed and brandishing the shotgun is amazing. It replaces that influx of dread with a sense of relief, not only because we know she is now safe, but also as if we, the audience, are being protected as well. The look in his eye is so fierce, and it really translates well to the viewers his intention to make sure absolutely nothing gets through that door. Awesome animation as usual.
Well dang, I'm not much of a storyteller, but I'll try to deliver. I worked graveyard in a sort of industrial part of town, so it's mostly truckers, factory workers, etc. in the early morning. Pretty secluded otherwise. One night, I lock up because I'm alone (my boss hates it, but without at least two people, that's the rule), but about 2 in the morning, I hear a banging on the door. This woman is wearing some pretty nice clothes, but her hair's a mess, makeup all smeared, and she's not wearing shoes. I see she's being followed by a drunk dude, again in nice but disheveled clothing, and I assume for a moment they're together, until I let her in and she yells, "lock the door! Lock the door!" So I lock the door, just before I see this dude has a knife. Turns out he'd been following her from a club about a mile away, she'd lost her shoes and her feet were bleeding like hell. Dude was banging on the door, trying to convince me to let him in, knife just out in the open now. I called the cops and they picked him up, questioned me, an ambulance got the lady, and I mopped up all the blood before my manager came in by the morning. There are all sorts of crazy people roaming about between bars closing and the sun coming up.
Idk I would hope the clerk would understand bc being a petit 18 year old myself at night getting gas a man trying to get me inside a place where he can lock me in would be a terrifying thought and what I would think about but glad that she went in bc oof!!
The shot where the clerk has the door closed with a shotgun in his hand so comforting like genuinely feels like what you would see if you did the right things in a horror game and got the good ending
I legit got chills when the narrator read the clerk's sign and then the girl slowly turned to look at her car. Such good timing and score in the background. Even though the actual art wasn't that scary the realization that there's an unknown threat is far scarier than any monster. Fear is in our minds and this story made good use of that.
Alex PintoG. In my opinion I think the drawing is disturbing, that inhuman expression the creepy guy pulls while he jitters in the backseat gives me mad goosebumps
@@tony_7274 true, but the most disturbing part is when the narrator turns and sees his distorted face, you know. Whats scarrier isnt the image itself, but how realistic it would be to sit in your car calmly and then notice in your mirror that theres a man with a strange grin on his face waiting for you in the back of your car
Tony Payne I really thought the drawing was really disturbing, putting into consideration I saw it at midnight home alone, I legit can’t finish the video since the moment she sees him, I got pretty scared with the narration, the background score and the timing, this is the first time in years I’ve got scared over a cartoon and that crazy bastard looks like The Ballon from Phineas and Pherb.
You’re absolutely not crazy! My mom taught me to always lock the door when pumping gas and sure enough about 10 years after she taught me- it happened. I live in a nice area and sure enough this man and a lady pretended to get air in the tires. She stayed in the car and watched me as her man went up to the other side of my car and tugged on the door 2x while crouched down in broad daylight (I don’t go out after dusk alone) and this f*cker tried playing it off. I acted like I couldn’t hear him for fear of losing my life and continued pumping gas. It was a brand new car at the time so I didn’t know (before my husband taught me) that I could unlock the car 1x and only the driver seat will unlock. So anyway, he pretends to go in the store and only makes it in the doorway before running back to his girl in their lemon and speed off. Earlier that day? A man was following me around the grocery store and out into the parking lot. I ran to my car and got TF out of there.
really? then you havent seen/listened to many horror stories. I was "oh, he has seen something that is threatening her" the moment I saw the clerk. Because that is how "horror" works. You have to have suspension to wind up your listener and then something unexpected happens.
@@oldoneeye7516 yeah, pretty much this exact thing happened in the beginning of the movie Urban Legends. She thinks the guy at the gas station is gonna kill her when he tries to get her to come inside over problems with her credit card, but he was trying to get her to come inside because he saw someone in her back seat. Though that movie is awful so I'm happy for people who haven't seen it.
@@Mallowmels The movie is based on famous urban legends. The movie itself didn't come up with the story. They just used it along with a bunch of others.
I have watched so many horror stories and never been scared. But that animation of the guy in the back seat made my chest hurt, scared the shit out of me
Same. Likely because ghost and monsters are stories but it's scarily realistic how one day you can get in your car and find a creep waiting for you in the backseat. Just the thought sends chills down my spine
K Cara 3am. Not trying to be like “I’m so quirky pay attention to me huehue” but for ffs while I was watching this the alcohol bottle on my shelf fell and shocked the hell out of me. Until now my heart’s beating so fast fudge
my car has to be unlocked for me to open the gas tank thing so this is such a fear of mine. that’s why we always check the back seat before getting in!
@@WackyWahooGuy I lock mine even if I'm by my car pumping gas; people can/will open your doors to try and steal anything you may have in your car when your back is turned, happens around the large city I live by.
Any human would do the same. It's understandable that a young girl won't just trust strangers. But saving a life is obviously more important than getting offended by curse words.
The reveal shot of the guy in the car genuinely creeped me out, it's my worst nightmare as a woman who works night shifts. It's the reason I ALWAYS lock my car when I get out for petrol. Even if someone was riding along with me. I lock the doors. Always.
Same. I lock my car multiple times when I get in and multiple times when I get out for gas. Literally there's no reason not to make sure that your car is locked anytime you leave it or get in it.
I'm a dude and I always lock my car when I'm not in it. It's not even that I'm scared of something happening, it just never occurred to me to do anything else.
I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t lock their door. All you do is hit the switch as your getting out. It’s amazing how many people leave their car unlocked though.
@@AngryBoozer Guys get killed more often than women because their first instinct is to fight more often than flight. That turns nasty when your robber has a knife in his pocket. If you run or submit, you'll be safer since you're not an easy target as a man.
Edit: I got tired of all the insanity that my comment caused so now you can guess what I commented. In summary: I didn't like that the girl flipped off the guy because she could just not go into the store, it's good that she was cautious but she didn't need to flip him off, that didn't save her anyway. Oh no, I'm so sexist, how dare I, right?
@@mhm77887 I mean, sorry to say but you can never, ever be too cautious. She was alone and it was late at night, a stranger asking her to come inside with the reason of her credit card wasnt working, even though she could clearly see that it had worked. Nobody else was in the area, so if he did decide to do something bad, nobody would see. She had reason to be cautious.
@@mhm77887 I mean he could've been just as dangerous as the guy in the car. For women being out alone, especially at night, is like a survival horror game. Were not trying to be rude, were just cautious. Every misstep or misjudgment could get us kidnapped, raped or cost us or lives. It sucks, but don't take it personally. If you wanna be mad, be mad at the assholes who are dangerous and force us to live like that.
@@konpeitojellie yes, she absolutely had a reason to be cautious, what she didn't have a reason for is showing her middle finger to him. Did doing that save her? Nope, not going in was enough. This has nothing to do with her gender. Edit: how dare I say that a person was rude, I can't say that because that's sexist! Oh no!
this is so creepy, the shot of the guy in the back seat was so freaky, it legitimately sent a chill up my spine. Excellent work dude!! Definitely worth the wait between videos
This is like that urban legend about the Head Lights.. where apparently a murderer snuck into a lady’s car and the driver behind her kept shining his head lights just so he could keep an eye on the murderer, and warn the lady, all the while the lady thought the driver behind her was trying to follow her and go for the silent kill.. Sorry that was long..
Not at all, please do continue. It was getting good, is there more to the story? Hopefully with a good ending.. Someone did a similar thing with thier high beams to warn me about not having my lights on at night in the highway. I thought the guy was being an ass but eventually he drove next to me after the highway at a red light and let me know my lights were off. 🤦♀️
Hello! Actually this is like the summary of that urban legend.. it’s kinda well-known (in my opinion) you guys can search it up.. I think the title is High Beams or Head Lights.. I forgot 😅 anyway, thanks for reading my comment!
@@matchington1148 in that case either way she was done for and at the store there are cameras and she can call the cops on her way to the door. If she gets garroted in a car there really is not a chance
god, that legitimately scared me more than any horror movie or podcast or whatever i've seen in years, cause it's just something that could so easily **happen**
@@anunknownperson4018 well if she locked the doors he might have gone for her instead of waiting in the car. Nonetheless she should have been more aware of her suroundings especially as somebody (her mom) told her to be careful there and not even stop for gas on the way back.
As soon as he started urgently pounding on the window, I knew where this was going. I've heard my share of stories in which the initially shady-seeming character was actually protecting the main character from some other danger they were completely oblivious to. To me, it's a plot twist that brings an interesting cocktail of mixed emotions, because on the one hand, you're horrified to find out about the creeper lurking in the bushes or whatever, but then you're simultaneously learning that the other dude was looking out for the main character and had their back. The scary part and the sort of heartwarming part, they both get revealed in the same time.
And one of them immediately calling the police to catch his partner also preventing the victim into getting in a car with a potential rapist/murderer/thief? Nah, it’s pretty stupid don’t you think?
I got freaked out when I saw the dude. I started hyperventilating and turned my screen away from myself, the animator did amazingly with convey the creepy essence
Omg I did exactly the same, in fact I haven’t been able to finish the video since the moment I saw the dude, legit I shat my pants, and the bastard looks exactly as Ballooney from Phineas and Ferb
Alright but imagine this, he attempts to open the car but the door is locked. The sound alerts the girl and then she gets attacked outside instead of inside. Obviously still lock your doors but this could have still played out badly.
Damn imagine being the clerk. Imagine seeing this tiny girl getting gas at night and seeing someone quietly get in and you try your hardest to get her to safety but she almost gets in
@@Kaylart I love your animation Hoping to see more of it.. Maybe you can try to get some stories from Nightmare files.. True Lesson though is to never judge anyone 😉
malcolm jones That the thing with art styles, they’re based on lots of things.. Steven universe has a simpler style because kids gravitate to simpler style, this has a more detailed style and it works because it should come off as a true story, this art style resonates better with that type of thing Not better or worse, just different, just art
@@gabb5 hello gabby I understand what you are saying but this is not the case I'm referring to the lack of consistency when its size shapes of character and structures if like peridot for instance her height frequently changes out side of the show not like its perspective or a exaggerated look for gags since it is a cartoon I'm saying the fluidity of proportions always seem to be in a constant flux and that's not an art style since certain characters are given a certain height even in shows like chowder have maintained proportions and still be comically cartoonish gabby steven universe had great colors but they still struggled with that balance unlike there predecessors please dont use throw "art styles" as an excuse for sloppy animation
A classic that will always be creepy. Honestly I was almost too afraid to watch the reveal, you made the guy so scary! I also kind of love that you changed the moral of the story from "don't judge appearances" to "listen to your mom" added a nice bit of levity.
Confused me at first but i realize, we’re lucky in our country, we dont use the gas pump ourselves. Theres always assistants available so you dont need to get out of your car
@@omolon_adaptive_frame3989 Im not sure about the person who commented but where I live it doesn't matter what time, there are always people working in the gas station who fills it up for you.
It felt like I'm watching a cartoon series because of the highly detailed art style. Hands down this is one of the best animation I've seen, keep it up.
@@sketchylandbeast4378 I always fill to at least 3/4 or full when the tank gets to 1/4. It adds the benefit of keep the crud at the bottom to get sucked up and also avoid getting stranded when you can't fill up a good time.
the fact that i would’ve reacted the same way as the girl towards the clerk and would’ve gotten in my car truly terrifies me. after this video i’ll ALWAYS check before getting inside even in the middle of the day. you guys taught me something that might save my life in the future. subscribe earned.
Man, I’d have died; even in the middle of the day, if I’d heard “please come in to run your card again” I’d probably say “Hey, that sounds like a you problem. I got my gas, I’m outa here, homie.”
YEP EXACTLY LOL ANYWAYS ARE YOU SAVED MARIANA CARPEN ? HAVE YOU ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR AND RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE I COULDN'T IMAGINE HEAVEN WITHOUT YOU
These are the types of stories I hate as a self defense/firearms instructor. She did nothing wrong really, aside from not locking her car but her instincts were good and her smart reaction to something wrong could've gotten her killed. Sometimes even if you listen to your lizard brain and your creep radar goes off... you still might be wrong. Sometimes there is nothing you can do. Sometimes anything you do is wrong, and anything you try goes bad. We can just hope that people look out for eachother because when people stick together, those small situations where everything us wrong... they shrink. The likelihood of survival goes up, and everyone is safer. Remember to look out for your fellow man. You don't need to carry a gun or know kung fu to save lives. Many times, just paying attention is enough.
“be suspicious but not stupid.” CONSIDER EVERYTHING. “creepy” guy calling you from inside the store? be hesitant. lock your door when you pump gas. check your surroundings. consider the possibility that the guy in the store might be a weirdo but also consider that someone might be behind you while you’re not looking. consider every possible thing that could happen. sad way to live but very necessary to “survive”.
I find it really weird for people in other countries to fill their own tanks lol. Here when you go to a gas station you don’t have to get out of your car, actually someone from the gas station fills your tank and then you can pay from your car, without getting out.
This is sad for me, a Pastor and director of a school I was in when I was a kid got killed in this way. He never gave people rides and one day he went to a gas station in broad daylight, someone got in the car and he didn't notice and then when he got in he was held at gunpoint and was asked to drive somewhere, on the way no one knows what happens but he got shot and crashed against a church, the criminal ran away as the director and pastor was bleeding out. In the end, the pastor of the church he crashed against knew him and as he was bleeding out they prayed together as he died waiting for an ambulance. This is not a scary story for me, this is something very possible and very dangerous and you should always look behind your seats, not only at night
Before getting in my car I legit always look inside to make sure no one else climbed in. I also lock my doors immediately when I get in the car since a lot of attacks happen when people get in their car without locking the door and think they're safe. And when people start to follow me on the way home (it's happened a few times) I stare directly at them, which usually intimidates them into leaving. My mom did this back in the day when leaving the grocery store by herself at 5am (she always shopped super early at 24 hr stores because she could leave my siblings and I sleeping in our beds with my dad home and get done with her shopping faster) and it worked, so she told me to do this from then on.
@@Iujjdjcbjrujgsm You'll rarely hear about it in the news because of how often it has been happening for decades. With the pand3mic going on, attempted robbery and theft has only increased. Even got a notification of a wanted burglar in my small town. The world is full of desperate, scary ass ppl.
Follow you on the way home in your car? Like do you look at the rear view or are they next to you? How do you stare at them? I need to know this trick too lol
@@mariee_e The incident with my mom happened in the parking lot when she was walking to her car, which is where a lot of people target women to kidnap. She stares at them to show them that she knows what they look like and sees what they are doing and they back down. I also did this when someone started following me on a bike trail and they backed down too.
This is why it's crucial, especially when you're driving alone at night, to lock every door and shut every window in your car and only leave the driver door unlocked. Because chances are, you'll hear the person try to open the other doors, and will only have to option to open the door that they'll most likely get caught in. I know it may seem like common sense, but it's easy to be forgetful in these small details, and moments like that could be a situation of life or death.
Also I’m surprised by the amount of people who don’t check their back seat before getting into their car I do it every time it’s easier than people think to break into locked cars maybe I’m just paranoid
I love how this isn't the usual horror like jumpscares and all that, but it's the sudden tingling feeling down your spine. Also, the animation is really cute!
Whenever my girlfriend leaves and it's night time from my house I always check her backseat out of habit. I'm a really big protector so I constantly do that stuff all the time. I feel for that clerk though because if this is a real story it's really hard to convince a lady to come inside when she's in danger without trying to tell her she's in danger. I've had to do that before and it sucks. You look like a giant creep who's about to murder them.
Love the story, but I was just wondering why the clerk couldn’t have just said, “maam a creepy mf just slid into your backseat, I already called the cops”
I'm thinking he was afraid that if he said something over the intercoms the dude would've lashed out and did something. It's like if you're in a hostage situation and managed to call the cops on your phone. You shouldn't yell out that you're calling the cops.
Didn’t want to tip off the man in the car and cause him too do something brash. If he said “a man just slid into your car and I called cops get inside” then he may have tried to grab her as a hostage or do something stupid
It’s best to plan ahead and keep your car well gas’d up during day time. Thats what I do. I refuse to pump at night, but if I really did have to (for trips and stuff), I would need to be with someone I know and in a well-lit area where there’s a lot of stores around too.
This would actually be a very common response first of all its late at night and shes a young female alone already enough to put you on edge and it seems the guy is trying to scam her so clearly she’s upset also if you believe someone is trying to harm you in someway you’re not going to go into a building that they can lock and trap you in
