Just a helpful tip, use WD 40 instead of cooling spray. The cooling spray is really irritating to the horses skin and often causes hives. The blades get hot from friction so any sort of WD 40 or clipper oil does much better than cooling spray. And put a little bit of conditioner/show sheen on your horse before you start!
I think it's because in the winter it's more of a need. If a horse sweats during a lesson and is hot and wet they can become cold after the ride when they're not worked anymore. I also think they do it when they absolutely have to, kind of putting it off.
