Ideally you would start them as foals. Correctly trimming their feet sets their bodies and joints up for success. They will be used to it from an early age. You gotta set them up for success early teach them while their small and impressionable, don't wait till they've made up their mind.
@MERINA Same here. It doesn't really matter what the job, I just like watching those who are skilled at what they do...and I've seen a massive variety of topics from landscaping to rug cleaning. Lol
People that are still here and saying that this man is hurting the horses. He *studied* to be ABLE to work with animals/horses. The process is similar with humans. If humans had hooves, they would need cleaned up and trimmed (trust me when I say, it does NOT hurt the horse and it is really pleasant for the horse since it won't have hard time walking. Yes, not taking care of horses hooves can lead to a big discomfort and can lead to death too! /Ok, I know that I got a bit out of hand on the last part but think of it this way. You don't help your horse with its hooves and then a pebble gets in it, you once more don't care about it and soon it hits the nerve system in the horse, leading to infection AND death. This is why Horses NEED to have their hooves taken care of so ya'll can shut it and go study before judging and talking nonsense./)
Hey there, I’ve been around horses once in 23 years of existence, but was always curious about them. They’re majestic animals, and the way you treat them is super sweet!! Found your channel by mere coincidence, but I’m sticking to know more about horses and horseshoes. Btw good look in your last year of get school!!!
I have never seen epoxy resin used to fix a horse nail crack, thank you for sharing this. I hope you are staying safe. Good luck in your veternarian school 👍♥
Why was this video in my recommended list? Do I own horses? No. Do I have an interest in horses? No. Did I watch this entire video and now become addicted to watching horses get their shoes done up? A resounding yes. Lol Very fascinating stuff.
I live in the city I don't live on a farm but I actually like seeing this being done. Subscribed because I find it interesting. Also helping out the animal to it's not like the animal could get some toenail clippers and just start fixing himself. Nice work!
My dad would have told the Ferrier to get the other shoes off and let the horse unshoed. He worked and train with Morgans and a few other breeds that ran in harness racing, and he would ‘bench’ the horse from racing. Sometimes he said they would get their shoe(s) off if their gait is off, an undetected abscess in side the hoof he found when his riding horse took her shoe off. If could because he’s young and don’t like the shoes or something else. But what do I know, I just remembered him saying stuff like that.
I was thinking it would def be worth an xray if possible, because a horse would probably not lose it's shoes if it was comfortable, but IDK anything about horses except they're big, expensive and look cool lol
Looks really nice. I’m in the hunter/jumper realm of shoeing and deal with many off the track TB. You were perfect in your assessment. I always wondered why you don’t block or set your nails after nailing? But I believe you answered when you said you didn’t want your nails to hang on so tight to cause damage? On my shoe “”pullers”” I usually switch to a tiny nail and very small clenches. It does keep down on the damage. Keep up the great work!!
good to see another farrier on here. the "tiny nail and very small clenches" was what I was going for but apparently didn't work. I use capewell's slim 5 on him. to answer your clinch block question, I only do that when nailing up hand-mades, with store bought stuff the nails and shoes are manufactured to fit perfectly together. hard to explain over writing but yeah...
If the vet farrier your working with in Kentucky is doc Redden I must say I am very jealous! I wish we had those sorts of opportunities out here is Oz. Keep up the great work mate!
I don’t even know how these videos were recommended to me, but I don’t have any regrets. This is all very interesting and I don’t know the first thing about horses.
I am sorry.. I just gotta ask: Does your back not hurt? I feel like all this bending down & hunching over, do you have a good massage therapist or what? 😂 I’m 23 & if I bend down to pick something off the ground I try not to bend my back for the rest of the day, but people with this job must have a backbone blessed by the gods or something 😂
Greetings from Germany, Gotta say I am watching through your back log and I really enjoy all the videos. Watched so much Hoof GP and cow feet trimming that it is real fastinating to see the similiarities and differences to Horse feet :3
I wish I was in my 20's again, because this would be my life long career.💯 I'd love to wake up every morning to do this job. To bad it takes year's and year's to perfect it.
Trabalho de excelência, estou me empenhando em aprender fazer o ferrageamento dos nossos cavalos, tem me acrescentado muito os vídeos postados por ti, muito obrigado,Deus lhe retribua com prosperidade,RJ🇧🇷
So I don’t know how your channel came across my feed but the stuff you do is fascinating to watch. My wife and I watched all the episodes of pinto bean which was very satisfying to watch. Hope everything goes well for you.
I appreciate that you’re one of the few farriers that explain what’s going on since I know nothing about horseshoes. Why do some farriers use a rotary sander for horses hoof? Is there a difference or do you get the same outcome? Best of luck to you on your final year of veterinary school.
Doing a great job there' and a very well trained horse, aside from removing his shoe lol. Find your vids very interesting and relaxing. Thx! Good luck in your last year of vet school! 👏👏 Btw, how did you find this line of speciality? How might one begin establishing themselves in this career? Thx again.💕
It protects the area till new hoof grows back, don’t take my word for it because I’m not a farrier. But it probably wears off as the hoof regrows. Like painting fingernails maybe? As your nail grows, the polish chips 🤷🏻♀️
Its amazing to think that we have became such intelligent mammals that we have gone from diagnosing and treating our own alements to being able to diagnose and treat alements of entirely different species. So much so we have different jobs that are specialized in the matter.
Filler materials have been around about 50 years and made possible, for the first time, surgical restoration for founder. In general, the loss of hoof wall in the quarters, even from normal nailing, narrows the front feet over time. The hoof shape changes from round to oval as we saw, rarely with positive affects.
