He only used his legs too no pulling on the bit at all and mostly one handed reins . They do so well under really adverse conditions . Its time they pushed the public back by at least 6ft

Brilliant display of horseman talent, as his horse wasn't having any of the crowd. Lovely to hear a lady giving morning orders, as well as a lady trooper doing crowd control. To the twits in arches or too close, learn spatial MANNERS, around working guards/horses, or READ the very visible signs.

Anyone who works with horses know that they can get moody from time to time. These military horses get the best of care and training. Actually they are in training at their post with their rider. How do you think they would act in battle with a crowd of people around them?

As an American I find the Kings Guard thoroughly fascinating. I enjoy watching their duties and admire the professionalism that most go into that training. Akin to our Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Except the rude Americans aren't tourists.

You could tell right away that the horse was being overwhelmed. Excellent job of quickly taking it away from the situation rather than allowing to put on a 'show'

Ahh, poor horse. No matter what horses do they still look so impressive. Just happy that the horse is put first and they too can be intimidated by crowds all of a sudden. The horse protested in a very good and controlled way and was understood. Let’s hope the horse is well taken cared of behind closed doors. Would be awful if it transpired they were not but we have to trust that they are which reflects well on the handlers and riders.

Larry Niven writes "Known Universe" scifi. A couple of stories are about the effects of teleportation on society. One identifies a problem with flash crowds. Someone posts about something interesting on the 'Net and thousands of people want to go there. And ruin it. Yeah.

I don't know enough to comment kn9wkegably. I loved the sound of the horses' hooves and the soldiers. Plus the odd comment in a non-English language.Mum was terrified of the horses that she had to work with on the farm during "the war". So I keep my distance too.

Absolutely brilliant horsemanship as always. The public and visitors should not be allowed so close they are a liability and jf there was an accident they would be screaming for compensation and refusing to take responsibility for being too close too loud and too pushy

To any American heading overseas and looking forward to seeing these men and women in action... ask yourself this... would you walk up to an MP at a US military base and act a fool? Then don't do it here. These soldiers are working. I only say this bc inevitably... someone will go rogue

As I recall the reason for this is so the horse know that something is going to happen.

I feel so sorry for those horses having to stand still for two hours at a time. It's ridiculous, no wonder that horse didn't want to go into the arch, he knew he'd have to stand being gawped at. Time to abolish this silly 'custom'. Do it without horses.

They are on duty for one hour, and horses stand longer in stables and fields. Horses have good days and bad days, same as anyone else.

I watched and rewatched this video to be sure what I saw. Please tell me I didn’t see that soldier hit his horse not once but twice. You consider that horsemanship in the UK? Makes me wonder what’s going on behind the scenes, if someone hits a horse in public.

When did the Trooper hit their horse? During Dismount? First time is to let the horse know his shift is over second time is to let him know about a weight change as the Trooper puts all their weight on one side to dismount. They are not mean to their horses. They take excellent care of them.

The boxmen (guards on the horses in the “box”) are on for an hour at a time and the gatesman (the guard who stands in the arch beside the shop and comes out from time to time to check on the boxmen) and the chitsman (the guard in the other arch where the horses and guards come out from) are on for 2 hours at a time. The chitsman also traditionally guards the door (on the chitsman’s right) to a very large hall which was used for cockfighting which was often attended by the monarch of the time. This hall is now used for storage and is apparently very spooky. Another bit of interesting (or maybe not lol) historical information, the 4 o’clock inspection parade is informally known as the “Punishment Parade” and was started by Queen Victoria. She apparently visited unannounced around that time and found the guards gambling and drinking so began the inspection parade to ensure this didn’t occur again. If you already know all this I apologise for boring you.
