Mr. Trocha I love this video. You explain the purpose of the german martingale so well and compare it to draw reins which makes so much sense when you say that you cannot feel the horses mouth properly with the draw reins because of all the running leverage. Fantastic video showing the proper way to equip the german martingale as well as a small lesson in not over-asking for a break at the poll. Love all your videos!

I am using a german martingale on my 3 year old and it has taught him to flex and bend wonderfully. I was having a problem in his early training of his sticking his nose up in the air and this corrected it in a nice way as he taught himself to bend. Thanks Larry

hey there! I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video! I don't use the german martingale but this is just the advice i needed about getting the horse to flex at the pole. I just worked on this with my horse today, giving her pressure until she dropped her head and flexed and she caught on really fast, I've never gotten her so round and focused and giving to my hands so nicely! it was such a simple change to the way i ride but it made a huge difference. thank you so much!

I really wish that you would do a short video like this about NOT overflexing these horses. You touched on it here, but there is a LOT of it going on, and I noticed that those that do that on a continual basis, their horses are also constantly ringing their tails.

You said that this is designed to use with only a snaffle, so can I do as you said until while working my horse in the arena and correcting him BUT then put on his regular bit (a mexican bit) when we go on trail? He was used in the mexican rodeos and I rescued him about two years ago. He tends to bob his head and do a few hops when I try stopping him from a trot or lope. I know I'm in my seat, this doesn't happen with my other horses - just him. So I want to correct that.

I am able to get my horse to put his head down when I lift my reins, and give him a squeeze, but as soon as I release to him he brings his head up again. He also has a bad habit of sticking his nose up in the air when I ask him to stop. It's hard teaching him other things when I'm still teaching him where I want his head. This martingale looks like it will be very helpful.. But since my horse already knows to give to the bit, should I not need it? Your opinion would be great!

Where do you find reins with rings already attached. Never used GM.

How come this equipment is not suitable for a curb bit with shanks based on leverage? Thanks once again Larry///

Could you please contrast this to a chambon? Just wondering if they produce similar results. I have a chambon, but will purchase a German martingale if needed. Thanks! :)
