DESCRIPTION
I have loved this part of our travels in Brazil. Lençoins Maranhese, 4 hours from São Luis, is a dune area from out of this world. It's so beautiful. First we went by speedboat to Atíns, to go horseback riding and we tried to see luminescent plankton. Then we went back to Barreirinhas where we took a little airplane to fly over the dunes, which was incredible. And last but not least we did a 4x4 tour towards one of the lagoons. We went to Lagoa Bonito. We went back to Sâo Luis and ended our trip here with a nice stroll around the historical centre.

You can go by car but this is less bumpy and so beautiful. The port at Atins is just a little beach so just go back to the same place as where you where dropt. Usually the Pousada will drop you off if you ask nicely. The village of Atins has only sand roads so walking will be challenging. If possible don't bring a suitcase.
