Since I'm not an aero dynamist; I'm curious as to its flight characteristics w/o the cellophane vertical component in this video...bit of cheating maybe, IIRC, the Horton was not a production aircraft but experimental, right?

Ich möchte nicht zu dick auftragen hier, aber fur mich ist und bleibt die Horten einfach die genialste Flugmaschine was Form und Ästätik betrifft. Einfach schön zu sehen, wenn sich so ein Vogel in der Luft bewegt. Das Profil von der Seite betrachtet erinnert einfach an eine Schwalbe und so fliegt es auch . Flink, wendig und einfach wunderschön. 👍👍

Sie hatte sogar Stealth Eigenschaften! Die Amis haben sie im Modell (ich glaube 1:1, eben nur ganz aus Holz und ohne Technik) nachgebaut und auf einem Radar-Testplatz mit allen nur denkbaren Radarsystemen getestet. Video gibt es auf YT.

Flugeigenschaften (querneigung) waren kacke, weil es kein Heckruder hatte und die maximal geschwindigkeit war nicht hoch, weil sonst die Flügel abbrechen würden. aber ansonsten ist Sie seiner zeit vorraus gewesen :D

@@dimibaba4549 du laberst einen bullshit, alter. du kannst hier in dem video sehen wie stabil und schnell es fliegen konnte. das belegen auch zahlreiche berichte von testflügen der beiden horton ho 229. es gab mit der landung immer wieder probleme, zu dem mit den triebwerken, weil sie zu neu waren, aber das flugzeug hatte nie probleme mit "querneigung". was ein dummes gelaber.

Das war auch schon im TV sie hatten das Flugzeug wie beim Original mit elektrisch leitenden Lack bestrichen was das Radar abgelenkt hat und für das damalige Radar erst spät zu erkennen war. Die Doku sollte man gesehen haben wurde von den Ingenieuren der Firma die heute die stealth Flugzeuge herstellt produziert.

How did you determine that it needed the (clear) vertical stabilizer? Did you flight test a prior version that did not have one? Do you have any impressions of how well the real aircraft might have flown from building and flying this model?

Reason for the tail is the low directional stability of the 229. The wing only gets its directional stability only from the sweep of the wing leading edges. That stability is proportional to the coefficient of lift. Hence increasing speed decreases stability and can lead to dutch roll and flat spin. The original used wing tip drag rudders to counter that. Another problem is adverse yaw when applying aileron to initiate a turn. The wing will swerve in the opposite direction making turning difficult/impossible. Again the fin counteracts this. Successful RC models of the 229 use a large amount of wing wash out to create a more bell shaped lift distribution. If done correctly that will eliminate the adverse yaw problem. As a tip you can move the CG forward to about 33 % of the length of the center. In case of this version with 1220mm wing span put the CG 200 mm behind the nose tip. Then you have to fly with ailerons trimmed 6 to 8 degree up which creates a more centered lift distribution and unloads the wing tips. Better yet to design a scratch build with proper twist in the outer wing and the CG that much forward. The more adventurous may experiment with a gyro connected to the EDF ESCs.

Because the original had serious problems with spins caused by the ailerons changing the shape and thus drag of the wing tips, where one side has increased drag and the other decreased drag, causing a flat spin. The original solved these problems with small air brakes that deployed individually just forward of the ailerons and to balance drag. Too complex for most modelers to bother with.

They really do add lateral stability. Without them, a specially programmed flight stabilization unit would be necessary. Even the RC B-2 Spirit that's on the market has them.

EDF motors creates turbulence which makes the plane unstable making mandatory the installation of a vertical fin unlike the original Horten 229 which was a jet engine.

Вы бы написали сколько по времени печатали это крыло и сколько ещё отходов было пластика из не получившихся с первого раза деталей ! Я лично печатал на 3д принтере Anycubic i3 mega самолёт Q- trener . Ухандокался напрочь с печатью , а со сборкой ещё больше ! В итоге это не самолёт получился радиоуправляемый а летающий кирпичь на один два раза , так как если внутри крыла ланжероны и нервюры печатаются в пару слоев то внешняя оболочка крыла и фюзеляжа всего в один периметр . В итоге при перевозке в машине уже не помню что урюпала на него но в крыле оказалась просто дырка . Такие модели к сожалению одноразовые ! Да и печатать из можно на любом принтере ...

Увы, теперь каждый может сделать на 3д принтере что угодно. а это самое "что угодно" может нести взрывчатку, может заползать куда угодно со взрывчаткой... я не пессимист, но я еще в начале появления первых квадрокоптеров предсказывал, что добром это не кончится. а вот теперь посмотрите на театр боевых действий. Пока еще - война беспилотников, а дальше - больше. на подходе искусственный интеллект. Такими темпами, через десяток другой лет дождемся того самого терминатора из фильма, но уже настоящего и из настоящего

What a great flying wing to design and 3D print, I have been waiting to build a Horten for a while now as its perfect for dual ducted fan. I started building 3d rc planes on my Creality 10S Pro a few years ago and best effort was a Lighting P38. Are you going to make your STL files available for a small fee or open source download. The large build volume of the latest creality printers is idel for people wanting to printer larger RC and FPV models. Thank you for sharing. Single layer printing for airfoils is not easy so well done a beauiful flight and build video I hope I get to try this on a new Creality printer one day.

It looks very nice, but the hands i see working are not the face that shows us the model. why dont let those who build it take the credit? more clicks this way? and something tells me, she is not the person flying that model. also i would like to have someone telling what they do while building it.
