Hot Dog Stand: The Works is a hot dog stand economy / education game that I picked up at a garage sale for a quarter. It's actually pretty cool! I didn't make the goals in this episode, but the game was fun to play either way. Join me next time, where I'll hopefully succeed and make Frank the Weather Wiener (yes, that's his name) proud that he sold me his hot dog stand!

Ha! I was the programmer for this at Sunburst, back in the day. Sorry about the crash, that's on me. Heh, I remember the discussion about whether to let you open the stand without setting prices. Finally it was like, "Hey, it's educational. Let 'em learn" (the hard way).

No unfortunately, I don’t know of anywhere to get these old Sunburst titles. I had an archive of titles I worked on a lot, but they were all “burned“ CD-R‘s and none of them work anymore. (I shoulda transferred stuff or kept copies of the pressed discs, which are more durable.)

I have been looking for this game for a good 5-6 years since I first fell in love with it in elementary back in 2004ish. I was recently reunited with it and have been playing it ever since. and I was very delighted to see you sign in as "Ryan", the same name as me. however, I have not improved on my salesmanship.

I ruled this game in middle school. When ordering supplies going down, use 6, 5, 11, 5 5,1. Minimal waste. Cant remember how much to charge for food, though. I want to say $5 for hotdogs and 6 for turkeydogs.

I don't think I ever charged more than 75¢ for chips, $1 for soda, and $2.50 for dogs, or in that general price range (in terms of the CGA version). You have to adjust the price based on anticipated demand-the dogs and buns will spoil-but sometimes random events will change the result.

@@Christopher-N I thought the same at first, but you're at a stadium. People pay more for food, and they will as long as it's not TOO high. Trust me, bromigo.

@@Archeantusable: There's no reason to think that the same game made years apart would value a dollar the same way. I don't think the CGA version even mentioned a stadium, let alone specifying the size of the school. I've also worked concession stands in the 90s as part of marketing class, though I didn't have the authority to adjust the prices.

I played this back in the day in 2006 in computer class in school. (For those who are too young, we used to take a computer class that taught us how to type, use Microsoft Office and play educational games to do with math and science and music)

I remember this game was sitting with shit like Math Blasters and JumpStart by the computers in my elementary school. I tried playing it, expecting a zany wacky time, and just got a bunch of math and spreadsheets. I turned it off real quick and played JumpStart 2nd Grade instead.

The sign add-ons really do seem to help. Watching u mess up so many times was quite frustrating but still entertaining and very funny lol this is the kind of game where you really do need to do ur math and actually try... "just wingin it" will never work. But that's wut made it such a great game! It educated kids in the basics of buisness, math, advertisements, etc.! I STILL love this game! I just wish I could find it...and find a way to play it...as I'm sure it wont run on any new computer systems...😔

I didn't know this over-glorified version existed. We played _Hot Dog Stand_ in CGA graphics Mode 5 (I think) on the school's network computers. I had the CGA version once, but long-since lost it, and haven't found it online-not even a screenshot.

There are some shady looking websites that have it, but that's probably not a good place to try to get it lol. I think there is also a site called archive.org that has a way to download it, but I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for whether it's safe or legal. I'm pretty sure I was able to install my physical copy straight from the disk onto my 64 bit windows 7 computer, I've seen a coupe of copies pop up on Amazon and eBay, but people want a lot for them!

It's kind of hard to find. There's a copy of it on eBay for $50 obo, and one on Amazon for about $27 including shipping. There are also a few questionable websites where you can download it. I don't think I have my copy anymore, otherwise I would totally send it to you!

Our school had outdated IBM PS/2 Model 25 (8086) setup on a network (these terminals didn't have an HDD, so I'd bring games from my home 8088 to play during lunch). If we switched it to one of the other network drives we could access, we found a CGA version of _Hot Dog Stand._

You sold the maximum hotdogs you could on day 2. You bought 48 hot dogs and 48 turkey dogs, but only 48 buns. So you sold 24 of each and then ran out of buns... The price was cheap enough OK. Watching your video was infuriating. Every single time you ordered food after the first time, you bought half the needed buns. I was excited when I originally saw that someone had uploaded a video of this game that I used to play when I was a kid. But this game is to teach math to little kids. You're a grown man and you got the math wrong every single time. a dozen hot dogs and a dozen turkey dogs require 2 DOZEN buns! ffs I'm dying EDIT: You realized after about 36 minutes. Thank you.

I should know better since I'm actually decent at math lol. I think I was trying to play this as more of a game instead of focusing on strategizing, and it slipped my mind the entire time. I ended up beating the game in the second video, but even then I was buying too many hot dogs without looking at how many actually got sold, up until close to the end, so it took way too long. Right! He keeps ordering those kits and pops chips ect when he already has soo many. He didnt read the thing about only hotdogs and buns getting spoiled till after. he just spends all the money everytime and it all goes to waste and wonders why he cant make the money mark. Courtesy kits are just nonperishable supplies (napkins, sporks, etc). You don't actually sell them, they just help with the sales. At least, that's what I assumed when I used to play the CGA version.
