Only in Japan could there be containers of condiments left out in public not tied down and no one takes them. And the tongs in that toasted sandwich machine would be gone in the States. Amazingly disciplined culture.

Are you ignorant, ever heard of how technology advanced Japan is, the machines have no people and also no children in the vending machine, it's fully automatic, meaning they have the food prepared first before heating up the food with food that's loose not in cans.The food itself is heated up after being re-frigerated, meaning they keep the ingredients fresh before the vending machine gets the food ready to be heated up

Parts of America used to be that way. Wasn't always like this. Cities are unsurprisingly the worst, especially left leaning cities. In Atlanta anything that isn't nailed down disappears and you can't walk down the street without getting hit up for money. Ive literally heard people brag about stealing all their condiment bottles from Waffle House restaurants. The Kroger has shopping carts with electronic tires that lock up before they leave the store parking lot. Ah yes. The new, enlightened age. Honor and common sense are "hateful".

Thanks for the video and it just shows how well Japanese people keep things tidy. The sink outside is cleaner than in most of the public restrooms I witness in western countries. Also, all the condiments that are there to use and not get stolen.

Ericsurf6 it wasn't just the machines you found but rather how you described the food, gave USD conversion, and the great camera work involved that made for the experience. Its a sort of "food experience" porn that is craved & yet rarely satisfied by these type of videos. You managed to give viewers what they are searching for from the sounds of the coins hitting the slots until the plastic doors open up. Great work to you & your crew.

its all pretty much pre-cooked by the vendor owners who come in before "peak hours" to stock their machines and then they disappear and come back when they know theres no one around. pretty much got this schedule down to a science, these magic japanese machine elves

I can only imagine it’s like a soda machine, first comes the bowl, then the ingredients, and then like a soda machine, the broth comes out. Which is maybe why it spills a bit 😉

There's a similar machine shown in the "Begin Japanology" video on vending machines. Inside the vending machine is a spiral of bowls with noodles and other ingredients. When you buy a bowl, the bowl gets lowered into a thing that fills it with hot water to heat it up and spins the water out a few times before finally filling it with the broth and then sliding the bowl out the slot. So it doesn't tumble out; the bowls stay relatively level the whole time.

The machines aren't that good, they're just convenient. Konbinis(7/11, Family Mart, Sunkist, etc) have better food, and McDonalds/KFC/yakitori stands/Gyudon joints are actually very good.

Rob Automats were once common in Horn and Hardart restaurants in the Northeast US. They never had the amazing variety of foods available from contemporary Japanese vending machines, and as their offerings were fully precooked foods such as pot pies and burgers presented unwrapped in hot, relatively open chambers, they were usually overcooked and badly dehydrated if you purchased items that were placed within them more than an hour or two beforehand. Automats essentially disappeared in the US after the last Horn and Hardarts closed in the mid 1970s.

I worked for a vending company during my college days. After seeing the inside of coffee and soft cup soft drink dispensing machines, I would be afraid to eat anything that didn't come from a sealed package. The potential for bacterial diseases to develope is extremely high.

at least the toast looked like seal packed. some meat packs too. but open, poured drinks? youre right about contamination risk. i only have black tea if i must, if no water bottle is present or cold weather. but keeping animal products cool looks more problematic to me about poisoning perspective, though its undeniable that sugar is a good meal for microorganisms.

In the philippines those free condiments and spices available for customers of these vending machines if left out in the open like in japan would have been stolen in an instant. Even if im not japanese im so proud of their culture. I wish i was japanese... Im not even kidding..

Approx $3.50 for that pork ramen with 4 slices of pork and a whole egg? That is a bargain. Here in the US that would cost over double. Food vending machines have never advanced in the US as in Japan. There was that large automat restaurant in New York City that enjoyed a brief Vogue in the mid-20th century. Americans refuse to try advanced food vending machines other than cold a sandwiches and some microwavable food.

Advanced? What's advanced about soggy, stale microwave food? The U.S. could easily introduce these, but there's not much of a market for egg and pork cartilage soup and warmed up meat in can. It's quicker to go to a drive-thru and get a freshly made meal that hasn't been sitting in a can and microwaved in a vending machine. If anything, Japan needs to catch up to America's fast food industry rather than serving canned meat. These are the same people who eat chicken feet and raw toads, should Americans start eating that too to prove how cultured we are? -_-

There’s not a market for it in the US. Americans are moving towards farm-to-table and fresh ingredients. Processed stuff out of cans and machines aren’t nearly as popular here as they were 10-15 years ago. We want our meat fresh, not out of a vending machine.. All of this stuff is neat, but looks absolutely disgusting. It’s not “advanced” at all.

As an American, who's lived in Texas their whole life, I do want that, where would I get anything that's not a burger or chicken strips when I'm on the road and looking for a quick meal inbetween deliveries or driving to different cities, I think it would be an interesting expirment to put one of those machines here in a busy spot, tbe novelty alone would warrant some attention
