After using the Hot Frog Worm Bin for two years, I review the Pros and the Cons of this worm bin after using it for two years. I start with some issues I have had worm farming with this bin then finish up with the great things about this worm bin I have learned while using it for my worm farming!

For the Worm Factory bin you get a sheet of fabric that sits in between the bottom tray and the leachate bin. It catches the castings and gives the worms a chance to make their way back into their trays but lets the leachate pass through.

Great tip I am going to try this out myself! I am always looking for ways to do this.

I gave up on the drainage area of my 360. What I do is put damp cardboard on sump area and every time I feed I take cured cardboard from bottom and cover food with pre inoculated cardboard.

And I did what Michael suggested and don't have to worry about my worms at the bottom anymore. However I don't think my situation is the same as yours on the bottom tier.

@@gardeningwithalessandra8477 It's not exactly the same in the 360 I have but worms do what they want not what designers believe, 😆.i kind of use the sump area to prime just damp cardboard and when I feed and need more bedding I just take from the sump what I need and replace with lightly dampened cardboard and paper. Also it seems to invigorate the population to get the volunteers from the sump.

Thanks for the review! I’ve considered buying something like this for my grandkids since they show lots of interest in my worm farming. One thing that you might consider using on the bottom bin is line it with burlap. It’ll drain well and help prevent migration below. Nice Job 👍🏼

Thank you! Some of the kids I know just love seeing the farm. I think it's great to show them how worms work in our environment, to keep it healthy!

Thanks for liking, The Film App I use was switching between the wireless mic and the camera mic so I had to adjust the audio because one was really low and one was really high. I didn't notice till post....Sorry I tried my best to clean it up..Ugh.

Would you know the approximate weight of the bin when its ready for harvest? And also if its the bottom bin you harvest, could it just be slowly dropped to the floor I mean don't have to carry it far right? Last question, if you were not was trying to decide between this one and the worm 360 would you buy this again, this seems better build and makes more castings?

Hey Gen thanks for watching! Well my bins by the time they get to the bottom, are very heavy. However, they don't have to be whatsoever. The reason why mine are so heavy is that, as the worms work and break things down in the bin, there is more and more space in the bin. It starts light and full, and if you add nothing until you have castings you will have only about a quarter of a bin of worm castings. When I do my bin, as the worms break stuff down, cardboard, food, etc, I keep adding more stuff like this to the top of the bin, so the bin is completely full of castings by the time I harvest that bottom worm bin (correct I always harvest the bottom bin). You can control how much weight you have in castings, by not adding anything as the castings process, ( worms eats what's in you're bin) you would also get castings faster this way. You can keep those bins really light overall, and still get castings. I have never used a 360, however I have heard good things about them. I love my Hot Frog, never had any issues with it so far, other then the drain clogs once in awhile. I think they are both great bins so I am sure either would be great! Best of luck with your future worm farming it's great and if you have questions feel free to ask! 😀

Make sure to only add small amounts of food at a time, especially good scraps high in nitrogen the bacteria breaking down the high nitrogen can really heat up the bin for the worms. Just keep a 90% carbon (dried leaves and cardboard) as you have been doing. Mix it in good everytime you feed them, this will go along way to keep the worms cool and healthy. 👍
