My hat is off to the Lucid engineers! I've never been in one, but have seen some stuff, like this. It's as though they're the modern day Deusenberg's (almost 100 years after the originals). I hope they don't grow too fast, but look forward to seeing what their future brings.
Not really. Less weight and better tires don’t mean anything if your brakes can’t stop you. Sounds like the need to figure out the suspension and better calibers before they try to engineer a faster tire and a lighter weight.
It's really surprising that the Air doesn't lag behind in cornering speed compared to the M3 CS. I think the main reason is that the center of gravity has been lowered. It's even surprising that tire sizes are 265, 295. If it wears cup 2 tires, it will probably have the fastest cornering speed among four-door cars. despite that heavy weight...
@@G82WattsThe m3cs was not at a disadvantage in terms of tires at all. It had a much bigger advantage compared to the air. Considering the weight of the car, the air should have had a much larger tire size. However, looking at the sizes, the air is 265 295 and the m3 cs is 275 285. What do you think? What do you think is greater about the perfection of the chassis? Break stereotypes and accept them
@@bjj-vl2ut the m3cs wasn't using track tires as said in that video. Saying it had no disadvantage is disingenuous. Yea the lucid was at a disadvantage too. Depending on the car the right tires can change alot or not much.
@@bjj-vl2utthe M3 CS was on standard P Zeroes which are universally considered to be awful on track. Still, the Lucid's tires would have been so incredibly oversaturated at those sizes even with the faster compound.
@@G82Watts Tire performance depends on how much friction coefficient it has. The friction coefficient of pz4 and ps4s is almost the same. They are tires of the same class. And the sizes are completely the same when you add 4 tires, so there is really no difference in the total coefficient of friction of the 4 tires. . Even though the M3's minimum cornering speed is 1 mph faster, the Air has the fastest acceleration performance of any road car made on the planet. Also, if you want a car with really fast cornering speeds, check out CT4 V Blackwing's Lightning lap Cornering speed is faster or almost the same as m3cs.
For the X5M run, at the 9:23 mark in the video, I'm surprised you didn't bend a wheel and blow a tire with the poor condition of the curb edge of the track. Looks like VIR isn't kept in very good condition. But the X5M and driver did fantastic.
The irony of using the term 'tank-slapper' with an EV. (around 21:00 in) Reminds me of recording studios where we now use SSDs or hard drives, and we still say 'Rolling' when we hit the record button.. LOL
Just got the magizine and had to see the video after reading sounds dangerous they wouldn’t build the brake for the sapphire to be able to withstand its max output. Scary to think the creator said to start breaking at the 7 ont eh corner when there is only 6 markers…
It's due to the massive power and weight - you're going very fast, very quickly, and you have to decelerate the mass. Of course 1000+ hp is dangerous, in ANY vehicle.
I’ve driven a couple of these. They all feel like 5500lb SUVs. Numb steering. Too much power. Long braking zones. If this is the future of cars, I’m keeping my Lotus Elise and Honda S2000 forever.
