Once here. I don't get people saying that Mamamoo doesn't deserve this. They come from a small company instead of a Big3 company, they come from the bottom and struggled a lot to debut. They proved their worth again and again with their powerful performances. They started topping the charts and their fanbase is just bigger in korea than BP's. Why? because they won older people's hearts with Immortal Song and won younger people's heart with upbeat songs like um oh ah yes, 1cm, you are the best, etc. Their song did better in the major charts (MelOn and Mnet), then, they topped Instiz, they even broke the record from girl group staying in the top of MelOn for most consecutive hours. (Not to mention the 6 rooftop hits that Yes I am got). Moonbyul always writes her rap, the girls make their own choreographies, so why is it exactly that they don't deserve it? Please, explain to me because I just don't get it.
To understand why things happen you -have- to make an analysis. And comparing them is one way to do so. I'm not undermining blackpink; I'm just stating facts.

Two weeks ago, when this happened, a lot of blinks were saying that Mamamoo didn't deserve this because, and I quote "they didnt have youtube views" / "they once made blackface like a year ago" (which they apologized about in a hand-written letter) and such and such. It was everywhere. Sompi, RU-vid, AK, Koreaboo, mamamoo's own videos, etc. So yeah, A LOT of people said that.
For me what makes Mamamoo stand out from the rest, besides their obviously strong vocals, is honestly how 'free' they look on stage. Everything is just so genuine and anyone can tell theyre having a blast doing what they love! I love them so muchhh
This might be late reply but they kinda remind me of female Big Bang with their stage presence and how free they can be on stage without being in sync and looking perfect. They also remind me of 2NE1 a bit with how each girl is unique to the group and are individuals.
