Making them
How the eff am I still alive? No one knows, but how does using the fabled PRINCE AUGUST MINIATURES molds go?

"Welcome to my kitchen where hopes and dreams are broken and really bad mistakes are made" Thank you for clarifying in case someone didn't realize you were British.

Long time mini collector, I've always wanted to do some casting. Watching you pour them in your kitchen has given me hope that I might be able to do the same myself someday, without burning anything down as well 😀 Glad I found your channel.

I'm pleased the hopes and dreams of my kitchen are being good in this case. But yes, I did some research and admittedly brought the CHEAPEST stuff off of Ebay for it. which worked fine, I think the failure in it all really came from my own lack of understanding and preparation more then the materials or equipment. I do intend to cast more with these molds to practice and see if it's something I want to delve into further, but between this and the bad woodworking I do (new hobbies lol) Woodworking gets the budget

This is interesting I remember thinking about trying this years ago then ended up buying a resin printer instead. Do you think 3d printing has replaced casting for mini making?

I would say so. I must admit I'm fairly *new* into the whole mini scene of things (around feb this year) - I know recasting websites exist that specifically recast old molds but I think with the general ease of 3D printers onwards and CAD would say that yes, it's been replaced. Heck, my advent calendar this year is all Mini from etsy and they are all fit for purpious so far. Mind, if anyone knows better, do comment on it

woah thats sick i didnt realise there were molds you could buy for metal mini's! I've done a bit of other types of castings and I really had to learn that the mold needed to be hot to allow the metal to flow into every bit of the mold before freezing. So maybe that'd help with the horse and the door? I'm not sure what material the molds are made out of, but with one of the ones you don't really care about you could wrap it together with some metal wire and "pre-heat" the mold in an oven at its lowest setting. That way it's at least a little warming than room temp. Also if you are worried about about fire, you could maybe try making wax mini's with these, then making plaster molds of those and melting/burning out the wax. It's how a lot of jewelry is made, granted they usually use a kiln to burn out the wax, so finding a ultra low temp wax might be tough. Anyway super excited to find your channel and cant wait to see what else you do with this stuff!!!

Thanks for the comment for sure, My channel is a weird one. very much a flavor of the month kind of channel. These molds were Prince August ones and seem to be made of a heavy rubber although the floor and door one's not so much. they are lighter and I wasn't so certain about putting metal in them. The pre heating idea isn't a bad one, As i said I'm the kind of person who does the minimum research, tries something then is pleased it didn't explode in my face kinda person. I'm keen to give this another try once I get my hands on some more Pewter to mess around with, athough xmas has put a hold on my spending for things at the moment. I have seen a few cases of people making their own molds before but I'm not that far along yet. I'm much more messing around to see if it's something I want to invest more in. I have seen a few molds of old well known metal toys that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on for the heck of it. either way, pleased you enjoy the random stuff I come up with, Tis appreciated
