Would like to see the a TTT on best practices for oil supply to a turbo and the different setups between a ball bearing and journal bearing. Great content. Keep it up. Thanks!

Glad to see someone else pushing to fix the root cause instead of just putting bandaids on the symptoms!

I just had my brand new s475 get wiped due to oil building up in the return, didn’t think I need a scavenge but it was just too steep of an angle, you live and you learn!

Good content, very educational; have a very old Garrett OEM on one of my vintage cars and from my work in oil and gas I knew to cool the engine before shutting it down so the oil didn't coke and damage the seal or shaft. So far, so good, about 37 years in service. We worked with labyrinth and ring seals all the time in industry, as well as the carbon type seals in jet engines.

This makes complete sense. My TII LeBaron started smoking, not long after it blew a coupler. Got to 20psi.... once. Luckily, a new T3 Garrett will replace the current 80's junk. Good luck and thanks for the info, brother!

Great video buddy also another important point to explain in turbo failure is oil drain

Great info as always. Plugged air filter can also cause oil to be pulled past the seals but most common reason for turbo failure we see is too much crank case pressure slowing down oil flow through the cartridge.

Don't forget people putting thread tape, pipe dope, and/or silicone on the oil inlet filter/fittings. Can't tell you how many times I saw people grenades their brand new units and try to get warranties. For the love of god just buy a new fitting / new gasket / new feed.

Thanks Doug. This is very good and helpful. I know it's done to death, but I'm 5.3 single turbo 5.3 swap from my current old school 383. If I get brave enough to try, I'll definitely be calling you guys

I have ran over a 100psi on a 4bt and the trick to not blowing boots off is Aqua Net hair spray! It helps the boot slide on, but once tightened it acts like glue, but is easy to remove with soap and water. it also kept my flat top lookin sweet back in 92 LOL

Well that explained 2 turbo failures ive seen at my shop and the one i had i assumed it was overspeed related since the coupler exploded at 30psi/7500rpm and destroyed the compressor wheel

Great info So with the use of the EBay type turbos do they make high pressure silicone type seals like the new seals for transmissions for replacements or upgrades?

Has anyone looked at the correlation of running up against the two step and seal failure, I know on Diesels on the Lafd We had runaways caused by seal failure due to Jake brakes. The jake cause exhaust pulses that acted like a hammer on the seals. WE started to replace turbos at 70,000 miles. We used the jake at every intersection to slow down, where over the road trucks don't . When you go up on the two step and the exhaust is backfiring do you think could be causing pounding against the seals and causing them to fail?

Informercial basically Erm.. WHY ?? do YOU think that an axle shaft would elongate Due to Rpm?? Tourquing up /twisting.. perhaps .. Maybe. However it's Seriously Unlikely an axle will elongate due to rotational forces.
