@@moonegalactica Chappell Roan is a lesbian, that’s what lesbians have to do with it. If you want deeper than that, I think when a song comes from an experience the cover artist doesn’t have, it’s not going to sound as genuine. Like for example, you can tell when a singer is writing from a place of genuine heartbreak over a break up for example & when they’re just “playing the hits” because those songs do well or whatever. Likewise, a lesbian writing & singing about queer romance & sexuality is going to bring experience to the song that no one else could. This isn’t to say “Never cover x song”, only “I prefer x because it’s more meaningful to me”. By all means, people can go & cover Chappel Roan, Pale Waves, Fletcher, etc. & hey, they might do a good job - will I like say a straight man’s cover of “She’s my religion” though? Probably not.
