Personally.. I like that you have to pre-order it or you miss it! Otherwise, you have to pay the secondary market value. This is how sixth scale collecting used to be! Over the last 3 years... everything was in stock. Because everyone was buying! The covid collectors have faded away. So now, there aren't as many figures being sold. Which is a good thing. No one enjoys buying a collectible. And then watching it lose its value almost immediately. Even though collecting isn't about value. The value is still in the back of you're mind.
You can also have your figure on a payment plan. Pay a little over time and once the figure releases its already paid for. Specially with sideshow, it's one of their best services.
Great content! Really appreciate your honesty and insight! I usually preorder a figure if I KNOW I cant miss out on it. But I too have Robocop on my waitlist as well as the Tobey Spiderman.
Great vid and advice!! I too was among the skeptical about preordering. Preorder smeeorder I said. That was until I missed out on Inart Joker among others and had to pay well over retail to acquire them. I now preorder anything I’m interested in and pay attention to community warnings about low stock at the latest. You’re right. Sideshow is a business and there’s no reason for them to lose money overstocking . 👍🏾
New suscriber can’t wait to start my hot toys collection got a few on pre order and got my moducase order sent super excited this channel is helping 🙏🏽
Great video!! I missed out on some figures too because I thought the same as you, since for the past few years everything have been overstocked, to the point where you can get them for way cheaper on ebay after release. I missed out on MOM Wanda and Mark 6 reissue, but just found out BBTS still have them, I preordered on there instead. Definitely learned my lesson 😅
@@KeCoCollects You’re welcome. My bad I got into it with that guy in the live chat yesterday. Looking at your community toxic video right now. Lol. I had to cook him, but I’ll do better for the community next time. 🙃Always enjoy y’all’s live streams every week (except for the early start time).
I almost missed out on the Phase 1 clone solely because of your opinion acting as confirmation bias. Had to snag one off the waitlist. Will never forget that 😂😂
@@KeCoCollects No fault of your own man. It was that pre order that made me realize the waitlists were real. Now I preorder anything I don't want to miss out on. It was a great learning opportunity.
Great video. A lot of us felt the same. I still PO’d “must haves” but I did make one mistake. I thought I PO’d the new Doctor Strange but I actually didn’t. Now I’m scrambling to find him.
Since they don't ship to Portugal... I had to ask the store I buy figures from since their provider is from Spain, to get me Darth Vader ROTJ 40th Anniversary and the one from Kenobi series too... Sideshow website show 40th as available in July 2024 and Kenobi in October 2023... but the guys from Spain have the opposite dates so I'm getting the 40th first and I'm on the waitlist for Kenobi Vader... and there are people who already received one of the figures or both in some cases.
Agreed, I got bane and grabbed a rooted joker day one and then went back and grabbed a preorder on the sculpted joker. I was lucky and got an email for Logan and goblin cause, of course, they wait listed . So I preordered those. But me thinking Toby and Andrew wouldn't sell our of preorders and sure enough they did. Freaking jared leto did months and months back lol and yes, the movie wasn't good, but I love the character and the actor, so I'm gonna have to hope I get a chance on him and gorr . I'm glad my wife hasn't made me live in the garage yet 😂
I currently have BOBF Boba, the Bat Signal, and the Clone Trooper. The one I'm truly sad about is BOBF as I was hoping to pair him with Mando. Really hoping I get the opportunity soon to grab him!
I put off Pre-Ordering Crosshair and he ended up getting waitlisted. I was lucky enough to get him through a local dealer. I have 9 Pre-Orders on Comic-Concepts. I'm not taking any chances.
I winged it with Wonderwoman WB100 completely sold out Only available from resellers at double it’s release price Gutted - refuse to pay 600+ for a figure that was 350 on release
Some figures are still on Waitlist, like Black Panther, but you can also check BBTS. They already have it in stock, as some of the other waitlisted figures. And the best part is, they have a 4usd flat rate shipping for domestic US orders.
I know this comment is 3 weeks old. But just to check, he’s sold out on BBTS. I got him from SS. Also, BBTS marks up all their figures over retail. So you’re actually paying more for shipping than the $4 advertised. That’s just a marketing gimmick. I like BBTS. But they shipping is not really $4 in the grand scheme of things.
Neco, Very good vid. But, in your general comments on the subject of "Waitlists", you were....extremely general. IOW, would love to have had rough #s on your explanations like lengths of time in your examples or indeed give 4-6 examples of a figure's waitlist versus your personal results with time values. A) Were you early & pre-ordered yet still missed out? B) Glaringly, in your years & years of pre-ordering & waitlisting figures, what is your actual experience values in months on a figure? C) What % of waitlisted figures, on average, become shipable? I apologize if you provided hard examples & I just missed your details.
I believed it was all smoke and mirrors and a tactic too. But I also believe in the bills...so my judgement should be taken with a grain of salt after week 1....
Don't beat yourself up over it! I also took a risk a stopped preordering last year and nearly missed out on few characters. Luckily I got my Clone Trooper from Popcultcha. And I agree waitlists are great method of determning if you really want a figure.
This is a very Sideshow problem but in my very professional opinion if it's good enough for Toys Wonderland then it's good enough for me, I can get a clone from Toys Wonderland for £650 in 2 to 23 months from now if I wanted, or store credit to that extent, no biggie I'll just buy three Thenas.
When Clone Wars Maul first dropped he sold out pretty quick and I went on the waitlist. Within 24 hours it converted and I felt pressured to buy him. Granted he was not essential for me, but I wanted him as a companion piece for Ahsoka. Now, he is constantly on sale and every-time I see that it definitely stings a bit. When the phase 1 clones rolled through, I wanted to buy multiple but I held off for in stock, never thinking they would actually sell out. When they sold out, I know all you guys I listen to said they would probably come back, but we all know how that went lol. I was able to pick up 3 clones through a local store, but I think that period last year where everyone was anti DOPO, Sideshow had no idea what they were doing. It's clear now they don't want to sit on stock. It's tough to gauge nowadays, I've been preordering to be safe, I'd rather lose a deposit than miss out on the figure all together! Cheers
So, as someone who has just got their first 1/6th scale figure (Classic Suit Spider-Man) and wants to get into collecting 1/6th, whats the average rate that something doesnt convert? For example, i am in love with the Advanced Suit 2.0 figure to match with my Classic Suit, but it looks like the pre-order was only open for a limited time and its waitlisted. Am i just wasting my time waitlisting, or is there a good chance that it will convert in a couple months?
Very hard to say right now. That advanced 2.0 is EXTREMELY limited and numbered. A normal release would have a higher conversion rate - but I have seen some convert for people. The conversions usually happen closer to release when people cancel.
@@KeCoCollects So, has there been any explanation as to why it's so limited? Like, it's the main look for the protagonists of a huge AAA game, but it only gets 3000 total pieces? Is this just a way to guarantee a smaller batch gets released before the game comes out while a wider (maybe slightly downgraded w/o arms) release comes out after the game, or is Hot Toys just allergic to money when it comes to the Advanced Suit?
@@Robin0928 no one knows for sure ... but I think it's a way to guarantee milking essentially a reissue (both suits released before) without having stock sitting around. There are still plenty of different Spider-Man's and Miles that are just sitting.
@KeCoCollects I'm really hoping that they will make a wide release for the Advanced Suit next year (especially since it is different even to the original one thats ridiculously expensive on the aftermarket) and that the exclusive is just a "first batch" printing to get the thing out on time for the game's launch. I get making alternative skins into limited number exclusives, but doing it to the main look for the game (especially when the last advanced suit was 4+ years ago) is, imho, a stupid move. The alternate skins might still be available, but clearly people do want the main looks for Miles and Peter since the original Advanced Suit and original Miles Suit are long sold out and sought after on the aftermarket
pre-ordering should be over for most people 'when you start in this hobby you get signposted to SS but you should soon realise that ''exclusive/limited/special edition'' dont mean much, hologram mk4/ neon techs/stealth 85 all still sitting there (neon tech 6 ebay was £110) my iron strange deluxe was £215 not £490 from SS ,also with money being generally tight why pay a year+ in advance & get in a credit agreement. or you can wait & buy used just months after release for 1/2 price often. even when SS do sell out i see ''super rare''figures on sites & youtube tours of HK stores show just how stock there is over there. for all their faults TW & others have revealed what prices can be & i wont pay double in advance .
I just pre ordered and ordered more. Pre ordered Mace Windu, Padme, Clone Wars Obi Wan, Batman 89, Black Adam and have The Batman. Also having Clone Wars Anakin shipped.
Funny, yesterday I had my waitlist conversion for Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Deluxe Special Edition(the one with the Doc Ock tentacle) and I bought it without hesitation because of all the things you just mentioned in the video. I’ve realized the FOMO is real and now I won’t pass on the figures that I really want/need in my collection. I also had the Lizard Diorama Base convert for me earlier this month and he’s really cool in person. Just upset that I turned down both versions of Doc Ock and Electro earlier this year because back then we thought this was just Sideshow messing with us. I’ll get them somehow… Now the hope is for TASM 2 and Hobo goblin to convert.
I do feel that collector community is encouraging and justifying these poor practices. Even if it's unintentional. This is a supply and demand industry like any other. If a company tries to artificially generate demand or increase pricing and we (the consumer) defend their actions this is literally not consumer friendly practices, and we are simply shooting ourselves in the foot by being passive about it. Also, the pre-order period isn't clearly marked on mainstream websites. I find out most of the time when the HK release is only to see Sideshow (not exclusively them though) to starting to launch the same day or next day in the middle of the day when most people are working. And they really are naive to think that people can purchase stuff while earning a living? This is an expensive hobby after all. Also, I truly think they need to show more transparency on units remaining and have actual launch times that work for the average consumer. They need to have proper evening launches like the video game industry did in the day with midnight launches for example. I am not a fan of this exclusivity of 1/6 figurines. I feel that if you want it, they should have enough knowledge and they know what people want. The Star Wars figurines are the biggest examples. Standard Stormtrooper or Clone Trooper is rather difficult to get without importing or relying on private request. But yet there is a demand for them and it's a less expensive figurine to manufacture. I just feel that while hyping 1/6th figurine collection is fun for all of us to enjoy collecting and the culture the comic, movie or other media its based on. It's another story where we create a rat race over them. That shouldn't be defended and it's just immaturity to combat it with, "HaHa! I have this one and you don't!". It's too expensive a hobby to be "manbabies" about it!
@@KeCoCollectsKeCo, sincerely curious what you mean, at the ~11:25 mark, you state, "I'm not proud of it but here's my Waitlist...". Why are you embarrassed?
@@KeCoCollects Oh. But you & many other experienced HT YT hosts correctly advise the community to "not be a pre-order collector" which is so true. Keep up the quality vids bud. PS We're Americans and "deals" are in our DNA. ;)
So morbius and gorr i really didnt think were gonna be wait listed. Im waiting for these two. Yes yes i know both films weren't that good, but the way i collect is a little different than some. Won't really go into why or how i decide what i want. But man i didn't think those 2 would be . I missed out on Andrews Spiderman, too. That one i could see being more popular. But the other 2 i thought were gonna be there a while, and they weren't. They went pretty fast in my opinion.
No need for an apology. Circumstances constantly change and figure were abundant before. Nowadays production levels seem more limited. And our strategies have to change.
In France, Sideshow is overpriced for us with taxes; therefore the question of waiting lists does not arise. In my case, I try as much as possible to buy pre-orders directly in Honk Kong, the prices are unbeatable. The problem of missing the pre-order, you are forced to pay the full price as for the Hot Toys Crosshair The Bad Batch because it was no longer available in Honk Kong.
No apology necessary Keco, I still feel we have about a 3% chance of getting anything from waitlists. I've waited years for pieces and ended up going backwards on the secondary market and removing myself from the waitlists. But that works best for me. Love your videos, especially the recent artisan Anakin experience!
I hate the waitlist system because I swear Sidedhow is still going to abuse it when it suits them… I’d rather everyone have to put down higher deposits
hmmm that makes me think of Inart's approach, but I'd be ok with a month or several month timed windows... sadly Sideshow won't give back the power they have gained here I would assume.@@KeCoCollects
