I've heard many people online (people who I respect, no fault to them) Rave about certain releases and how you "need" or "should really consider buying" them, only for the same people to sell them/change their opinion on said releases. Interests change I get it, but your advice on why you should buy is pretty solid and a good reality check

This is probably one of your best videos. Lots of great advice many of us have learned through the years.

One thing I would add is knowing when to get out. When buying figures becomes more of a chore than a joy, it's time to take your interests in a new direction.

Great video! I asked myself that question some time ago when boxing everything up for a big move to another state. I actually had a panic attack! "What the heck am I doing this for, why do I have so many toys. What am I going to do with all of this stuff??" Mind you, I don't get caught up with trying to get every figure that comes out or complete a set of whatever. But I'll tell you this, my life is less stressful and my bank account has increased tenfold by not collecting as much or wasting money on things I don't need. One last thing, I had not and will NEVER be influenced by some cat on RU-vid with their large collections in the background! I personally think that in most cases, they can't even afford what they have! Also, they mean nothing to me! I don't know them, and they definitely are not friends of mine and vice versa. More to life than keeping up with the joneses! Be smart, be responsible. My nickels worth of free advice!

Personally I can’t resist upgrading my childhood Mego and Starwars toys. It’s the way I wanted them to look back then, and brings back that feeling of getting a new figure. Space isn’t an issue.

I've asked myself how I got to the point of having such a large collection that it's taking over my space. I started collecting in 2020, I was incarcerated for 9 years and came home to a pandemic. My first hot toy was a Star Lord, it was gifted to me from a friend. I was instantly in love with the quality and slowly started to accumulate. Sometimes I feel like I was filling a void, I was free from my substance abuse and for the first time in my life I was able to have nice things. It really snowballed from there. And yes I am definitely out of space. I have slowed down with my collecting and only buy figs that I really want.

I’ve actually thrown boxes away. If I had to resell, I’m cool with taking the hit. Other than a life altering event, I don’t plan on selling anything that I purchase. I don’t need a collection of boxes in my closet or another room.

I always like the video before the intro even starts rolling because I know these videos are very helpful to me as a 1/6th collector. Yes buying new figures is fun, unboxing them is fun, displaying them is fun.. but all that comes down to self control and know exactly what you’re collecting and putting on your shelves as a collector.

I have my figures in boxes, but that’s just because I’m a college student who lives in a small room lol. Once I move into my apartment in August I plan on buying something to displaying them.

The best advice to prevent people from FOMO. I ask these questions all the time, and will be doing it yet again for inart Joaquin when the time comes...my bills seasons misery tickets I have to budget for, and the rest I pick and choose with the remaining fun money budget. Otherwise you will lose space and accumulate debt quickly.

Great video!! I’m actually at a point now where I have too many collectibles. I’m finding that I was happier when my collection was smaller. I also think about how some figures I really wanted go on the shelf and don’t get touched afterwards, and how that money is better in my account than in a cabinet. I also feel that the sheer amount of hot toys and one sixth scale figures available these days have forced a lot of us to change our collecting habits.

I've only had one figure since 2017 - it was a must have for me and I still had to talk myself into forking out the money for it. Just now in 2024 I bought three more, and one of them is one that came out around 2017 that I really admired but again, I just couldn't talk myself into paying the price. The ones I just got in the past three weeks I paid less than they cost when they came out brand new and I got them new in box for less than people are even selling them opened and used. I set my budget at around $200 out the door with shipping. I bought a figure for $165 that Sideshow sells right now at $264. If I can get the figures that I want at my budget of around $200 out the door, then I grab the ones that I want. So I'm still waiting for my last two to arrive (one is actually out for delivery now) but I think I'm happy with the four that I got and if I made it from 2017 to 2024 with only one, I probably won't be buying another for a long time.

I think one of the hardest things for people is just accepting that sometimes you just need to admire from afar. Yeah we all like many things, but do you really LOVE everything that comes out to the point of having to drop ~$300 for it?

I need your help!! Keep the videos coming. The voice of reason I had seen in the comments fits perfectly. I know I have a problem and currently working on it with my partner. I have two figures preordered this year. For me thats amazing as there could be anywhere between 10 and 15 by this time in previous years.

Started collecting in November last year and only have 5 figures plus 5 on preorder.. so that's only 10 figures I've found that I'm generally interested in. I'm not a massive collector who has to complete sets or needs to buy everything that releases, just wan to invest in characters I truly love... by the time each preorder comes out over a year or 2, that's enough time between each one to have the money saved for their release so it's a good balance to invest in a select few rather then needing to get everything.

Another banger. Keco Collects: The Conscience of the Sixth Scale Collecting World!

I've been on the fence with keeping my boxes or just letting them go. I have no intent on selling them so my hesitation comes from, what if something happens to me and will my collection help my loved ones? It’s ridiculous the amount of space those boxes take up. I could break them down and save the boxes, which would be a good compromise since the plastic or foam inside will need to be removed and thrown away. On the bright side - it’s a nice problem to have in the grand scheme of things.

I can't stress how much this video just helped me. I stared at my Amazon cart and had to make some decisions and ask myself these questions thanks to your advice and now I want to ask myself if I should or want to start a new toy line to collect or just slow down with collecting in general?

My biggest mistake is having a plan for a shelf, doing preorders of a few figures for that shelf and then another figures arrives on po and is mandatory for that shelf. Suddenly, one that was not that important (a filler) needs to move but doesn't fit anywhere else!!! Or not having enough space for my original plan and it ends up the same way...

Proper display = one figure per shelf, nothing visually below waist level. Following this has kept my collection focused. I felt stepping outside of this didn't truly honor its "museum" quality. I'd love your take on this.

I'm one of those eccentric collectors that collects non-refundable deposits. I'd love to share my collection.. I mean its gotta be around here somewhere.

Very good and insightful video as always. I consider myself lucky in that I'm selective with what I purchase or pre-order. I order what I really like or what is "me". I don't have the funds to purchase on a weekly or monthly basis. My collection is modest. Do you feel - and no judgement here - that a lot of collectors "focus" on one "universe" or character and build off of that? Where they want each and every piece that is commercially produced? Case in point: I just pre-ordered Geordi LaForge through Sideshow. Because he was/is my favorite SNTTG character. But I'm not getting the Data figure or the Admiral Picard. Would I get them even if Geordi wasn't coming out? No. Because they don't MEAN so much to me. I don't need to get them all to feel my collection is complete.

Great video, and certainly all questions I've asked myself. Especially as I'm nearing the end of all the hot toys I want and am moving on to the other side of the room where I want bigger scale statues and maybe even a 1:1 silicone bust from Infinity studios. Those are far more expensive than the hot toys and take up far more space. So I'm asking myself the questions you spoke of daily and try and balance the space, budget and get the actual pieces I absolutely need in my collection for the right reasons.

KeCo thank you for the great advice and entertainment. I just found out about hot toys a week ago by stumbling across your collection tour video. I don’t own any figures yet, but have a couple on pre-order through Sideshow. Can I get your opinion on pre-ordering 89 Batmobile through Pop collectibles, they want payment in full. Also your thoughts on Maybangs collectibles, they have the 89 Batman. I have to say this hot toys community is a breath of fresh air from all the political garbage I’m surrounded by. I’ve watched quite a few of your previous videos and now look forward to what you come up with next. You’re my number one guy, keep up the hard work.

So far the one hot toy I have regreted buying has been the punisher, bought it because I felt like I missed out. Paid way too much for it and when it arrived he seemed meh. Cool figure just not what I expected.

This is great advice & should be the #1 rules of collecting. I started collecting 4yrs ago and i was all over the place until a collector friend told me “you went head-first” and then my accountant said “what are you doing?.” Now i only collect items that resonate with me or give me some sort of emotion, memory, etc. but still sometimes i slip up. Kudos for bringing this up! 👏🏼👏🏼 and the Keco: Rules of Collecting (book) when does it comes out? 😂

Interesting. I had to listen to the video a 2nd time just to make sure I understood correctly. Case in point just got a figure and paid through the nose for it. Do I regret overpaying, well yes. But it is a figure that I had been pining for a good while. Never had one like it, I like the movie and I like the character since I was a kid (Avengers Hulk). Marvels and DC are the only figures I collect so I think that since I narrowed myself in the choices, I think I can afford a bigger splash than normal once in a while. Mind you, I won't be buying any other versions though.As someone else said, you need a bit of self control and just because you see it, doesn't mean you need to have it. We are supposed to be responsibile adults here after all. Well, you lot are, not me, I'm still a kid when it comes to these figures.

Well what do you think about the storage unit thing you said because that's what I'm doing 😂😂. But if i throw everything out, i can probably forget about selling any of it in case that needs to happen 😢

Thank you! 🙂 Also, your Ecto-1 looks amazing and I tried to find one online, and I did managed to find a 'battle-damaged' one, with like painted scuffs on it etc. Is that the same type as your pristine white one, just with a slightly different paint deco?

What kind of shelves are using for display hot toys?

Keco post a video, I stop what I’m doing and press play. Great advice video. Especially the FOMO comments at the end. I still need to watch the replay live stream from yesterday. The value of reselling makes no sense to me. Why do people think they should turn a profit on a USED figure that likely has already deteriorated the moment they bend an arm or leg with the exception of maybe a die-cast Iron Man. It’s brand new or no dice for me. As for how to pay for figures after NRD. I stretch the payment plans out to as long as I can. 6-8 months. It’s whatever works best for each persons budget. I’ve certainly learned to be mindful to not pull the trigger on NRD the moment a see a new shiny announcement. Outside of Artisan’s I wait figures out. If they go wait listed oh well.

I heard you mention in another video that you were in the 'curating' phase of your collection. Is that the point where you are out of space and so anything new coming in has to replace something going out?

It a drug .like anything else .because it toys we think it less harmfull it is not .ask your familys what they think and how much time is lost with family and freinds .figures or what ever you collect become a thing and not cool to you anymore .i lernt hard way
