Here are the top TIPS and TRICKS for maintaining your Hot Toys and Sixth Scale figures! If you haven't already, check me out with these these figures and more on my Toy Photography page! / keco.collects
Thank you for this! I'm new to collecting. I have three sixth scale figures and a couple kotobukiya 1/10 figures in my ikea display. Glad I watched this, now I know how to clean these things lol. Subscribing!
Some real good tips dude, I’ve been collecting about 3/4 months now and got around 7 figures and 3 on pre order was only planning on buying one or two hot toys but I guess that’s not happening no more😅. Was really putting off buying a display case but after watching this video I think it’ll b my next purchase. Thanks and keep up the good work, love your vids
Another trick is to use your finger as a make shift lint brush on cloth - wrap it in double-sided scotch tape (the double sided is easier to wrap around your finger than regular scotch tape) and pat the figure 'til all the lint is removed. This is really useful on figures with dark clothes (like ROTJ Luke Skywalker) where the lint and dust really show up.
as a new collector to Hot Toys, these tips was wonderful. i feel less worried about classic suit Spidey on a pose knowing the suit will go back to normal in a museum pose!
@@Volrath2242 I would think so.. he's just rubber ... thick rubber at that - so it may not be THAT poseable. Some people have talked about peeling , but I haven't had any
Very informative video! Thank you so much! I just have one question though, if i keep my figure in a box for a very long time will it ruin it? I just bought my first ever figure but I just realized that I have nowhere to actually display it :(
Old video but some great tips! I just started collected Hot Toys 1/6 Scale Figures. Sadly I don’t currently have a display case and am thinking of getting one because i do smoke let alone have dogs so yeah, lot of dust and nastiness going around the house. I was more or less wondering what spray and rags are best to use when wiping down the body parts, armor, etc let alone the best way to clean the fabric. I accidentally dropped my Luke Skywalker behind a shelf and notice with a uv light it did get quite dirty. I just don’t wanna ruin anything.
303 protectant for the pleather/rubber/leather and canned air to blow off dust. Getting a proper display case would go a long way in helping. Good luck!
I highly recommend weatherstripping, but not the aerosol dust-off. I hit my SSC IG-88 with some; a piece blew off and out went into my carpet...I never saw it again.
Thank you for the tips, this is very helpful and all I needed to hear, glad I found your video. Just started to collect and the figures will keep rolling starting next year. Now, I do not like the glass displays, or glass for the matter since it is very "cold" for me so I have an Ikea bookcase to display, AC/ Heat for Winter summer ~ temp at 24-25 Celsius throughout the year, no sunlight and humidity at ~40 - 50% since I am in Europe continental, are this conditions proper? If not I can adjust. The biggest issue is then the dust, and I am terrified of cleaning it regularly since it takes so much time to do it properly, so my question is, how often should I do this, considering that I dread doing it in general. Thank you for the tips, keep it up and love your collection.
In most cases, getting to the batteries and the on/off switch on Hot Toys figures is such a pain in the ___, its hardly worth it. That is the one area Sideshow seems to excel over Hot Toys.
Hey man, I love your informative videos, they really help! Had a question tough. Do you know a way to fix stretched out sleeves? When changing the arm on my ROTJ Luke I accidentially stretched the fabric from the sleeve and now it kinda looks weirdly warped...
I know what ya mean on those arms ... fabric is tough unfortunately. I don't suggest trying to "shrink it". If it's real bad, maybe look for a replacement outfit on eBay? Good luck.
Glad I watched this. I only have one hot toy, which is the punisher war machine. I've had it since release and left the batteries in there. After watching i looked at them and sure enough I can start seeing green on them. They still work but I got them out just as the Corrosion started.
I've been collecting for a while now but finally got my first detolf cabinet today. Need to get some weather strip but otherwise I'm excited to display them in a glass case. Probably get another one in a couple weeks. Trying to just focus on my star wars collection.
Thanks for helping me out :) just got the spider man far from home figure. Was wondering the suit that he has do I just use the wipes and wipe it gently on the suit?
Hey, got a question about the light. How safe is it to store in a well-light room, where the sun is above the windows and doesn't directly shine on toys? Did you try to use some reflective anti UV window shields? Will it work? I have way too dark in my room during the day, because I'm closing the curtains all the time, and I'm looking for some solution. Thanks for the tips!
I have "blinds" in my room that does a pretty good job, but I've since put curtains behind my detolfs in my new layout. I explain it in my NEXT video about the collection tour -- stay tuned!
How do you fix the issues with robes and capes as shown on 7:05-7:15. Over time they start to look rough and fuzzy rather than smooth like when you first open the figure.
Though I don't know for sure, I would think the oils from our hands would be the cause for the robes to become like that. Just handle with care and make sure your hands are clean when reposing or taking them out.
Great question! I actually did a video on this called "How to fix broken figures". Simply, the easiest way is heating it up with a hair dryer if you are nervous to make the rubber softer. Hope that helps!
I don’t have any room in my house where I don’t have a window. I’m going to put my detolfs in a room with a big window, but the light will not hit them directly. Still’ I’m thinking about putting black curtains on the window and also putting a “sliding curtain” in front of my detolfs to prevent light hitting them when the sun shines a lot. What do you guys think ? Could this work and keep the figures safe ?
Question. I have the dx Mando and it has the dynamic stick with the clamp. I feel it grips really hard. Will have damage the figure over time? I thought of trying to find a universal u hook stick to replace it. I don't plan of putting him in flight pose so the clamp seems overkill
There is not much you could damage on that figure since it has a body suit underneath. I agree that the hook or something similar would be a better option.
@@KeCoCollects ok. I was just concerned about it squeezing and leaving a permanent imprint. I might try and order a generic U hook to swap the sticks. Guess I'm just paranoid. It's my first figure and they're not cheap as you know lol. Love the channel. Keep it up.
9:24 Nice reference 😂 Hey and what about keeping your figure in the box and take her out a few days? I do that because I stilk don't have a safe place to display her 😢
Ha! Didn't even realize I've said that. But, yeah... getting them from time to time is a GOOD thing. Keeping them locked in a box with the chemicals have been known to yield issues too
Hi, Brother. Recently purchased Roadworn Thor Hot Toys. Even though I keep the figure in the box, do I still need to use 303 Protectant on it (like you advised on the rubber skin and pleather suit)? Additionally, since Malaysia only has two climates, I constantly run my air conditioning. Do I also need to apply?
No hurt in doing it! It will only help. I've been applying it on mine recently as well just for extra protection - I will say, be careful leaving it in the box, sometimes that does more harm than good sense all the chemicals from the paint, rubber, etc are stuck in there
Hi very nice video sir! Can i ask if it is okay to put silica gel or dehumidefier inside the closet with the toys? I live in a hot country 30 deg celcius most of the time
Dehumidifier is fine -- actually encouraged if you have a humid country. Toss the silica packets away though -- those won't do anything. The figures need to breathe
@@KeCoCollects Are you saying that placing silica gels with my transformers would cause damage to them? Instead of helping reduce the heat and humidity?
@@KeCoCollects thanks so much! So I would just have to keep an eye put for her arms cause of the rubber. Cool cause I can finally own a hot toys for once!
One of mine is next to a window with shades. As long as it doesn't get too hot in the room you should be fine. Maybe check from time to time and see where the sun leaks and move the figures around a hair. Good luck!
Yeah it doesn't get hit my house is at 69 degrees. And it's not the entire figure . Think my 89 joker right arm and vader's right arm and back of of his cape get the filtered uv
Split your vids into specific collection spotlights such as DC or Marvel or Star Wars to detail past figs, current figs, and potential future figs in collection subset
I don't own one, so I can't speak specifically to it, but it wouldn't hurt the figure, but the lights would give out eventually -- but they are LEDs, so we are talking years I'd think
@@KeCoCollects That’s what I thought but wasn’t sure. I’d like to display some of my figures with lights permanently if I can. Like iron man and even the Jedi characters
Thinking about finally preordering my first hot toy and it happens to scarlet witch from wandavision with lots of pleather looking pieces. 😩 I’m moving to england so i don’t think UV rays will be a major concern but what are your main tips to start out and maintain a figure like that?
The pleather of today, is far different from the pleather of even a few years ago. Now there is more "rubber" in it. With care, there is no real reason to stress and not enjoy these figures. For peace of mind, there are "303 protectant wipes" that I know people use, but I do not use them personally
Was wondering I bought myself some figures like endgame Thor and Far from home spider man. The Thor has pleather pants and the Spider-Man’s suit has a rubber material. Would I be able to 303 wipes for both pleather materials and rubber materials?
@@Dholt29 I never have. Its for keeping leather/pleather from drying out. If you have AC or live in a climate that isnt very humid, you dont have much to worry about.
I really wouldn't recommend a fully enclosed display case unless you're ready to leave them open for at least an hour each month. Display cases act like greenhouses and will trap heat and humidity in them and that might damage your figures
Glass is terrible at holding heat. Greenhouses aren't made of glass to draw heat, they are made of glass so the plants inside can get sunlight. That's why reptile enclosures are now being made mostly out of wood as wood holds heat better.
High end figures should be using leather not pleather. Leather is not that expensive. They would get more than their money's worth from a full hide. Leather comes in all thicknesses, (think about a leather wallet) It's perfect for figures clothing and lasts much much longer than fake leather. plus it wears beautifully if you handle figures a lot, depending on the leather and the look you want. Pleather flakes and looks hideous. For what you pay for these figures leather is a no brainer. We should expect the best form these companies.
Hey man! Just left a comment on another vid of yours about the camera angle looking straight up your nose… this vid is a little better… I ended up subscribing you to your channel because you seem like a chill dude. However- another piece of constructive critique- if you’re going to take the time to edit your videos, then you can go ahead and do a re-take whenever you have a truck driving through your neighborhood. Don’t call attention to it. Some people argue it makes you look more “human” when you acknowledge mistakes/bloopers/unexpected sounds, but the reality is it presents an unprepared video. Sure, you didn’t expect the truck barreling through your neighborhood, but instead of pausing and saying “oh. Don’t pay attention to that” just re-record and edit. Not trying to be an ass, I promise. Just ask yourself if you make these videos for fun or if you hope to build your base and monetize your videos? Not saying I can do better- just saying if I were to try, these are the things I would look out for before I post.
