1998 was a good year for me. I graduated high school so I have alot of great memories from then. i started assembling this set but never completed it. (seemed like so many cars at the time) my favorite was the Itty bitty go cart. that hot wheel always made me smile.
Very good year for 1st editions love the dairy thanks for taking the time to share them in groups like that nice to see old stuff some of the videos get old seeing all the new stuff in every video

I have to say that 98 first edition were really a great year in hot wheels. They came out with a lot of great castings including the 63 t bird and the panzo race car which is one of my personal favorites. Thanks for sharing my friend and take care
I have quit a few of these, but to be honest the second largest part of my collection is the 90s group. It a shame hot wheels doesn't release most of these anymore. As always nice video, your videos are great reference/factual videos.
+I LIKE TACOS CATS AND CARS Well, thanks. I try to give the facts or a reference theme to them to keep them valid for a longer amount of time. If you want to google Golden Machines or 1998 First Editions I want the video to be valid in 10 years and still be ok to watch.
As I'm watchin this vid, I realized that I have quite a few of those castings. Very cool Dennis, I love the vintage stuff especially first editions. Since that is what my collection consists of mostly. Super vid bro.

Everyone is commenting on what a great year that was so I'll throw in my two cents worth as well. The Kentucky Wildcats won the division 1 men's basketball championship that year with first year head coach Tubby Smith...............I guess it was a great year....😉
In my brain I use 1997/98 as marking post , it was the year mbx was sold to Mattel and many of the Hotwheels models castings we see now or at least a few years back made their debut. I'm thinking a new marker point was reached significantly in 2014/15, with the introduction of lots of new cars again. Also the dissolution of JL and the foundation of autoworld as a contender. Also in that period treasure was troved, a modern monster if you like. I'm already looking at my 2010s and thinking that was the end of the day for metal/metal cars. The 98s are now the classics. It's almost as if pre 2008 is now the start of the new vintage. Great mind boggling video Dennis d menace lol.
+Kount Five Wow, how deep it goes. In the 80's the M word was a curse word for me( stop calling my Hot Wheels Matchbox). Now things are quite different. When I first showed the 1996 First Editions I got thanks for showing vintage Hot Wheels. ( WHAT? Vintage?) I still considered 1977 the line between vintage and modern til now.
+dmelzinga I'm picking up cars all the time and watching other people's stuff, finding 2008 stuff kinda opening my eyes to the changes in styles not only in miniature but on the big cars too. I think the day Mattel bought matchbox was the end of an era for the old castings from matchbox, closing that door and quickly opening a new period in their own Hotwheels ready for a new millennium.
I have a few Matchbox prototypes from Bruce Pascal but I don't really collect them, I try to stick to the Hot Wheels brand and squirrel them away for later lol.
What is the car on the box art of most of these Hot Wheels from this era? I can't figure out what it is, it looks kind of like a Viper or Mazda RX-7 (3rd gen) but it's not, and I've been dying to know what is is because it looks extremely cool. Is it a real car or is it one Hot Wheels made up?
