Love that Monza ...my buddy in high school had a comp orange then traded for 69 Charger The real thing...I remember that Monza.. I think , "I may start building models again." Than I saw these restored die casts. I have many sweet 16 redlines. Nice video.

Hello from Australia. I'm a model builder, and some of my old models I have been refurbishing. I use full-strength oven cleaner. Works on enamels and acrylics and doesn't harm plastic (polystyrene, at least.) and even cleans it. Multiple applications are totally possible. Make sure you don't breath it. Always works. Leave it on for about a half hour and it rinses off easily with a bit of help from a toothbrush. Very good videos.

I think it's lovely that you don't mind if your grandson gets a hold of it. Many years from now he may view this video and understand the labors that went into that toy that he dropped on the ground all those years ago.

That's awesome. The little bit of silver looks like a small primer spot for rust repair so it actually adds some realistic detail haha 👍cool videos

I have memories of learning to drive a manual in the oldsmobile version called the Starfire GT. mid seventies hatchback with a UNIBODY...lol at least my dad made a big deal out of that factoid lol. thanx for sharing the processes you use and i bet your grandson just loves grandpas customs that are like no one elses ;)

I actually like the job you did on this one, and I'm sure you and your grandson will look back fondly at both this car and video. Little unknown fact: Starting around the time this car came out, many of the HW cars had a small cut-out like the one near the front rivet for use with the wrecker truck (tow truck) that had a corresponding pin on the tow 'flap'

Lol the boy grabbed it b4 it was dry? Haha It's REALLY personalized now with a fingerprint and all! Character! If that boy still has that car as an adult later in life, he can marvel over that small boyhood fingerprint of his and think about the memory that comes with it. :)

BizMarkie91 you are so right! I still have a model I built 50 years ago, when both my younger sisters would grab it from my room and run with it- REPEATEDLY! just that one car out of many back then. I guess it was the color purple. I wouldn't sell that "memory car " for a hundred bucks!

DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid might take care of that homemade paint job on the chassis without damaging the plastic. I used it on old models done with Testors enamel paint and the plastic was unaffected.

I've found DOT4 doesn't work. get dot3 if you can. Oven Cleaner is another safe-for-plastic paint stripper, but get the caustic version (extra power). the non-caustic ones don't do anything at all.

Just a pro tip.. sorry if you know this already.. any plastic, wheels, Windows, chassis that have paint in them.. can be soaked in brake fluid.. it will remove just about any paint. I was lucky one time that a kid (who later was my boss, and I bought his cars lol) painted a redline a blackwall. With a brake fluid bath the enamel paint came off and fresh redlines were underneath! Also got paint off the windows. Works with large scale plastic models as well.

I had a 74 . I dumped in a Corvette small block, muncie 4 speed and a posi from a camero. Lovely car. Stupid fast. I have to find this hotwheels now.

I knew a guy that had a burgundy Monza the same year as this one and it was an original V8 car also. It was pretty fast, it would give my Mustang a run for it's money anyways. I do miss those days...

That was worth it. Looks really good. About the runnyness of the paint marker, I've heard that if you do your clear coat first then do the details it is not supposed to happen.

I've always loved the Monza. My first car was a 1975 Olds Starfire..it was the same thing as the Monza just a few cosmetic differences. It had a V6 enginr 4 speed stick shift power brakes and no power steering. Got it in 1980.

First off great job, I wanted to also add that my uncle mike had a monza (red) at the time i was living in Iowa. My point is, the spot by the driver side rear of your model there is that grey spot. My uncle's Monza had a bondo patch in the same spot, from driving in the winter. I thought that was actually a perfect accident. Great touch since Monzas were known for getting rust holes in that area.

Looks awesome. If you're not selling them, and letting your grandson burn rubber all over the house with them, I'd say it's perfect. Great job. I love Hot Wheels to this day. I wish I would've held onto some I used to have as a kid. I've yet to find a Super Treasure Hunt, I'm dying to find just one at Walmart. I love the Real Riders and Spectre Flame paint of the STH's. But sadly I've heard that a guy goes through the boxes shipped in and snatches all the treasure hunts before they put them out. Oh well. Sweet rides, you do awesome work. Thumbs up!

When I was 9 I was in an accident in my Sister's Chevy Monza. That little car was well built. We hit the back of a Caddy that had a trailer hitch. The radiator and the bumper we're messed up but the car was not bad otherwise. My head put a decent dent in the windshield. (Good times)

Obviously a flood damaged car. 😎 I always liked this one from the 'malaise' era, which I always considered to be the Hot Wheels malaise era as well. I had one each of the orange and chrome versions while a high school classmate had a gorgeous real one in midnight blue with a white interior and Cragar SS mags. The custom wheels really make it, both on hers and on yours.
