I showed this video to my wife who always complains about the collection that me and my two sons have, and we only have 1000 matchbox cars. This solves our storing problem. Congratulations on your collection, never seen anything like it!! Thanks for sharing!!
Man this expansion project is fun to watch! The room is looking awesome and the boxed sets on the wall add a perfect touch of class! Can't wait to see the track in action!
i am a new youtuber and started my channel recently for my die cast motorcycles, i know this is different but none the less gave me some good ideas, thank you for your video, appreciate it, keep up the good work and looking forward to more. cheers
Bloody hell! That room is way bigger than the other room....it's must feel like you've expanded into 3 more universes. Very intrigued as to what you will be doing WITH ALL THAT TRACK!
Thanks! I still haven't quite figured out what the end result will be with all the track, but I know I'll come up with something really cool sooner or later! The possibilities are limitless for fun with Hot Wheels track!
Thank you! Luckily I live on top of a hill far from rising waters, and secondly no girl will stand between me and my passion for diecast and cars... it's become a part of me! :)
Thank you! I was thinking of doing a time-lapse of the cars being put on the wall... but I'm still not sure what I have so the unboxing process to find all the cars is a job in itself!
Epic! Truly excellent tutorial. I was wondering about the dust factor without the lids / covers on. I really like how practical and cost-effective the Plano cases are as a wall display. Your basement is the ultimate die-cast man cave. Thanks for the video mate.
Thank you for the compliments! And yes, I agree, for the cost per storage of each 1/64 scale car the Plano cases win by a long shot and also look great!
After watching this video couple yr ago, I started doing same thing. This is perfect for hot Wheels and I enjoy see my cars displayed.. this is a great video as always… Thanks Pat… Texas
I have seen your room in previous videos, but I have to say that's neat. I "healthfully envy" you. Nice collection showcase and thanks for the display job sharing.
I am just getting back into the hobby. I was lookimg for a cost effective way to display my cars, and there u were! Thanks for a great soloution! This is why i love utube.
Thanks for making the video. I'll need to try that display method, but I might want to glue something on the cubicle edge so that a car won't fall out, from vibration, or from whatever.
I had though the same thing, and occasionally a few cars do fall out of their pockets, especially if I have music playing in the house (vibrations from the bass). Unfortunately there are so many compartments I can't be bothered, LOL, so I just go around and pick them up if I see they have migrated. Luckily I have a carpeted floor, so usually no damage to the car.
Great second room for your collection! What kind of cars you want to put in those new Plano cases? Some latest years Hot Wheels, or different manufacturer?
Thank you! I am starting out with Greenlight and M2 and AutoWorld, then I am going to put premium Hot Wheels up next, along with hopefully my vintage Lesney Matchbox collection, Ertl, YatMing, and Tomica. There are a lot of oddball older cars in my collection that would look great on display.
Amazing place to spend your time at. I know you worked hard to get in that point and you will work more to make it even better, so i wish you good luck in your journey. Also would love to see you participating in the Setup Race contest ... probably more collectors would enjoy to see what you have accomplished.
This is an amazing video my friend...after seeing this I must get myself some Plano cases..pronto! Now what to do with all the lids lol...by the way after you take the lid off it seems to leave an exposed hinge, but when you're putting the cases on the wall the hinges seem to fit in the one below like lego...do you ever have to do any case modifications to make them fit snugly together?
The exposed hinge does indeed fit snugly into the lip of the case positioned below it, so they become hidden as you stack the cases up the wall. Also, because it fits together, each case above and below make the display more solid and evenly flat against the wall. I often wonder if these were designed this well for display, or if it was just good luck!
Thanks for the explanation O-Dawg....I think it may have been luck since the cases seem to be made to organize a lot of stuff you'd need the lid kept on..but then again they did put the screw holes in the cases so maybe they did have wall displays in mind...
Yah I got a couple cases at my Walmart in Edmonton a few months ago and yah they were gone for a few years, glad to have them back. they work great for the garage too.
I suppose if you had to take them down for transport somewhere, it would be easy and you could put the lids back in for easy carry if you had to move them.
Very cool set-up! I wish I had more space to display my best cars. Maybe 1 day, i will make somes modifications to my house, expand the basement and creat a bigger city and a huge wall display! :)
That would be awesome, but I hear ya it is difficult to set aside the space needed without compromising the function of a house. I'll be enjoying my collection now each time I pass through now to do the laundry, LOL.
wtffor haha, good point. That will be one of my most imposing project for Future. Expand my little town SpeedCity to a miniature 1/64 scale metropolis and do more stop motion and huge police chases. And of course get more storages spaces for cars! :)
Been searching for these cases for some time. ..I do believe I will have to do the same as you and just talk with my walmart manager. Enjoyed the vid !
Is the shelf your six lane track on fairly sturdy? I have been considering doing a setup for mine along my wall in the basement. I was thinking of almost building a bench for it to be on but what you have done looks like it may be easier. It looks like you used larger metal shelf supports. Awesome set up you have.
The shelf is very sturdy when built with the large 10" brackets screwed into studs, every 16" along the wall. More then enough weight carrying capacity for the track and a bunch of cars parked underneath. Thanks for watching and have fun building your own, you'll love it!
CONGRATULATIONS for the video, but above all for the collection. I wanted to ask you where I can find plexglass display for my hot whells. Since I have so many I would like to expose them. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this! I have the wrong Plano cases and can’t screw into the walls of the room I’m in but this’ll be great for future reference 👍🏽💥
Are you using any adhesive, tacks or anything to hang those on the wall? Or do you have to do that with the very first ones you hang, and then just snap the additional ones onto them?
I have seen his video and he has the same idea, but it is not a new idea for me since I have been building and using this 6-Lane Super Speedway for the last 3 years in a variety of set-ups and locations (such as my deck in the Cool Down video). Extra elevation means higher speeds and farther distance for the cars racing... so I won't take credit for the idea but it is as universal as wheels are round, imo.
+wtffor I have noticed you've used it in the past, for the pool videos for example. I also like the jump in the middle on your, not sure how many will survive that one.
Dude....... ‼️👍🏻🏁 Wow man , I'm very impressed with your collection. Very , very niczzzz I went looking for slot car display shelfs and came across this vid. Needless to say,,, I now have my first four cases filled and on the wall. Great idea on how to display & Holy Crap !!! Yeah !! What a collection ya have there.
Another great video. I know your Canadian, and so am I, and you say you bought them at WalMart. I've never seen them at my local store, are you in Ontario? If you don't mind saying, which WalMart did you find them at? I have purchased online through Home Depot USA, but canadian store would be better. Thanks.
WalMart does not appear to stock these items consistently, but they do have access to ordering them. Best bet is to talk to a department manager or store manager...
They do hold perfectly fine even full of all metal cars like Johnny Lightning or M2... drywall is surprisingly strong as long as you don't round out the hole when installing the screws. Thanks for watching and your question!
thinking of doing something very simialer to this and may order those cases. with cars in them seems kinda heavy to hang up, not worried really, do you need any sort of studs or drywall anchors behind the cases
I have over 120 of these cases hanging on 1/2" drywall, some loaded with all metal cars, and I've never had an issue. You may need a drywall anchor if you damage the screw hole on your first attempt installing.
This is awesome I've been thinking of opening many of my packaged cars and just enjoy them on my tracks I've opened about 200 and store them in hot wheel's cases but this is much better I love this room
Just wondering if that plano cases will hold green light ford crown victoria , maybe you can help me , the car is unusually long for 1:64 scale special the one that have push bar , thanks , and You have A SUPER Collection sir :)
Very good question! I will have a video coming very soon showing you exactly just how well (or not well) Greenlight, M2, and Autoworld 1/64 scale models are held in Plano cases. To answer your question, the Crown Vic will fit the bottom larger compartments but the cars are on an angle. If they have a push bumper, they will not fit.
Hello! I'm from Brazil and I can not find a website that I can buy these suitcases. Could you tell me which one delivered in Brazil? Thankful if you answer me
Hello! I do not know of which companies ship to Brazil, as I buy mine at local stores. I recommend you read through the comments on this video, as there have been a lot of helpful ones posted regarding where and how to buy these online.
love it, that is amazing. I'm still trying to get my hands on these cases, but so far no luck no such luck in my area. Still got my eye out for it. I tried The Home Depot in Bowmanville no such luck
Badass displays and ur set up is tight btw if u dnt mind me askn how much r those display cases each or bulk i will appreciate it and thank you stay up.
Excelente video! Hace un tiempo que estoy atrás del mismo proyecto, claro que necesito traer desde eBay los "plano cases" acá en Chile no existen. Saludos!!!
Amazon has these cases for 10 bucks. Just ordered my first 2.......arriving in 2 days! Wednesday night will be the beginning of an epic 1/64th diecast display.
These are made in Plano illinois might of been able to talk with them and get the cases minus the lids. Might look into that for future collectors looking to get and display their collections. Funny thing is a company has owned Plano Plastics since 2007 it was bought by a company that manages the pensions for Ontario teachers so it's kind of funny they are so hard to find in Canada.
Thanks Jeff! I was definitely planning on separating sections for different brands, and to start I will put like car manufactures together within each brand of diecast. I don't collect other brands to complete collections (as I did with Hot Wheels), so I think this will be a fun and different way to look at the collection in the new room.
I did try that actually, but found the plastic was scarred pretty badly and I felt it didn't look so great... maybe I should have tried again with a bit more fineness. Thanks for the suggestion though!
